This piece is about a very uncomfortable instance for a black police officer and his white partner when one of them “mistakenly” shoots an innocent black man. It highlights the uncomfortable choices and decisions cops have to make when covering for one another.
The inspiration for the sketch is partly from the viral video of a South Carolina police officer, Michael Slager shooting a fleeing suspect, Walter Scott, in the back 8 times fatally killing him. The sketch highlights how a few moments of privacy between two cops can completely change to outlook of a case when the camera’s aren’t around.
The purpose of this sketch isn’t to color police officers as bad people, but it is meant to highlight the different kinds of people we trust to protect us and how far the city goes to select these people.
