Sharron Angle, Nevada’s tea party favorite, is up with a new race-baiting ad in Nevada that’s pretty shocking, even for 2010.

The ad starts with footage of dark skinned actors sneaking by a chain link fence and painting a distorted picture of Reid’s immigration positions (which the majority of Americans support) followed by images of white guys in hard hats while a narrator asks, “What does Harry Reid have against you?”

Here’s the script of the Angle ad:

“Harry Reid voted to give special tax breaks to illegal aliens,” the announcer says. “And Harry Reid voted to give Social Security benefits to illegals — even for the time they were here illegally. And now Harry Reid is fighting for a program that would give preferred college tuition rates to none other than — illegal aliens. Using your money to pay for it. Leading to a simple question: What does Harry Reid have against you?”

So much for being subtle.

It reminded me of that old Jesse Helms “hands” ad from 1990 in his race against Harvey Gantt.  For those of you too young to remember (and I’m not that old), the ad starts with a pair of white hands crumbling up a job rejection notice while a narrator says “you needed that job, but they had to give it to a minority.”

The more things change the more they stay the same, eh?

The irony, of course, is that according to the AFL-CIO and Change to Win (who know something about what does and doesn’t help American workers), immigration reform would end the underground economy and make sure that all employers play by the same rules – leading to better wages, benefits and working conditions for everyone.
