A black bourgeoisie perspective on U.S. politics
But, while on the surface, it looks like the pressure from being an on the air bigot might be pushing her out, peep what she had to say on Larry King Live (via the Washington Post):
She added: “The reason is, I want to regain my First Amendment rights. I want to be able to say what’s on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry, some special-interest group deciding this is the time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates, attack sponsors. I’m sort of done with that.”
During Tuesday’s interview, she told King: “I’m not retiring, I’m not quitting, I feel energized, actually. Stronger and freer to say the things that I believe need to be said for people in this country.”
So let me get this straight, Dr. Laura – you want to be able to get your “Ferraro” on without being told to shut your yap, and not to do it on the company’s payroll. Not everyone is going to pay your check and allow you to be an on-the-air bigot while collecting said check. Especially if your rants wind up costing sponsors money when people of color start boycotting said sponsors, and in this economy, the sponsors still want to GET PAID.
How many of you believe that far from choosing not to renew her contract, her employers called her into their offices after her on-the-air rant at an African-American caller, and “politely” suggested she call it quits? No one is going to voluntarily walk away from a radio talk show; especially one that is aired in a lot of markets, nationally. Even Don Imus didn’t want to get dropped off the air after his “nappy-headed hos” rant at the Lady Rutgers Basketball team – to which the media is comparing Dr. Laura’s mess:
The controversy over “Dr. Laura” is similar to one in 2007 involving veteran morning radio host Don Imus, who was roundly criticized for calling the players on the Rutgers University women’s basketball team “nappy-headed hos” during his show. Despite Imus’s apology, sponsors walked away during the controversy. He was let go by MSNBC, which televised his show, and his radio syndicator, but returned months later with a new cable TV deal and another radio show.
I remember hollering at how fast Imus showed up at Rev. Al’s radio studio, trying to redeem himself for that stunt. And as I recall, Imus wasn’t unemployed for long. Neither will Dr. Laura. I predict the head honchos at Fake Noise just got another talk show host for their stable, to join the Grifter from Wasilla, and flamebot Megyn Kelly.
Far from electing an African-American POTUS to proclaim we are “post-racial” in America, I believe that President Obama’s election just gave bigots license to come out of their closets with their racism, without fear or reprisal. They don’t even bother to hide their racism. I remember when even accusing a white person of being a bigot would bring a yelp similar to throwing a rock and hitting a dog in the pack. Hit dogs ALWAYS HOLLER.
Meanwhile, Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck and Sean Hannity remain employed, while the POTUS insists on playing footsies with the slugs at Fox Noise.
Helen Thomas got put out to pasture, while Fake Noise takes her seat in the White House Press Room. We haven’t seen David Shuster in a while – is he in Witness Protection? Just for speaking the truth, these bastions of journalism were fired – where the hell is Dan Rather these days? No one’s seen him since he tried to expose GeeShrubya as a draft dodger who stole the Oval Office courtesy of the Supreme Court.
I already know which way this country is heading and it ain’t nothing nice, especially when wrong is rewarded and right is punished.
