A black bourgeoisie perspective on U.S. politics
This video profiles a Partners in Health hospital in Haiti’s countryside.
As most readers of this blog probably know, Haiti continues to need all the help it can get. As time moves on, so will the images and sense of urgency. And it will be more difficult to raise needed funds to support the people of Haiti.
In the last couple weeks, we’ve seen an incredible outpouring of support for the people of Haiti from the ColorOfChange community — our members have contributed more than $75,000 to relief efforts. Today, we’re asking our members, once more, to contribute what they can to the aid efforts in Haiti by making a donation to Partners in Health. And we wanted to invite readers of Jack and Jill Politics to do the same. Can you help us reach our new goal of raising $100,000? Click here to make a donation.
From the email we’re sending to ColorOfChange.org members today:
As the search and rescue missions in Haiti begin to draw to a close, survivors of the magnitude 7.0 earthquake are faced with a stark new reality.
In the capital city, Port-au-Prince, hundreds of thousands of people have been left homeless, with clean water and food in short supply.3 Thousands of survivors are recovering from a range of physical traumas — from amputations to broken bones and infected wounds — but many don’t have a stable place to get treatment and recover.4 And recovery efforts have been hampered by media reports of “security issues,” which inaccurately portray many surviving Haitians as thieves and troublemakers.5 Unfortunately, it’s much like what we saw after Hurricane Katrina.
Your generous support is still needed.
Partners In Health, an organization that has deep roots in Haiti, has been doing an excellent job providing comprehensive, direct aid to those who need it most.6 The staff and volunteer medical professionals have been working around the clock to bring surgical teams, medical supplies, water and food into Haiti. They have gotten field hospitals and public hospitals throughout the country up and running. They’ve also coordinated evacuations of the most critical patients, airlifting them to hospitals outside of Haiti where they could be better cared for.
So far, ColorOfChange members have contributed about $75,000.7 Please help us reach our goal of raising $100,000, and ask your family and friends to donate as well.
