Conservative jerks like to talk about “reverse racism” which is the fantasy that whites are in real danger of experiencing negative  discrimination. Oh whites experience discrimination alright — here’s a classic example of it. Racial profiling cuts both ways in terms of poor law enforcement — the black & brown get harassed, brutalized, arrested and even killed sometimes just because they are black or brown and in the wrong place at the wrong time. But if you’re white (or white enough) and “look the part”, wow, you can get away with…almost anything because the popo is obsessed with beating people down on the other side of town.
Someone please explain to me why the White House State Dinner crashers are not in jail or at least “in detention”. Their actions were serious — they had no invitation and clearly must have misrepresented (or as my mama calls it — lied) to someone about who they were and why they were there. The Secret Service claims  Michaele and Tareq Salahi went through magnometers and were thus no threat to any of the dignitaries there. However, couldn’t one of them been smuggling plastic explosive or a whole bunch of sarin or anthrax. Clearly, it would have been easy since the Salahis looked white and right — a CEO type greying at the temples and a willowy blond with an expensive haircut and liberal-luscious ethnic dress. From Yahoo News:
President Barack Obama was never in any danger because the Salahis went through the same security screening for weapons as the 300-plus people actually invited to the dinner, [Edward Donovan, a Secret Service spokesman] said.
However Ronald Kessler, author of a book on the Secret Service, said, “While the couple did pass through a magnetometer to detect weapons, they could have assassinated the president or vice president using other means — anthrax, for example. The additional security checks referred to by the Secret Service spokesman screen for such items as radiological contamination but would not detect secreted biological weapons.”
I mean, are you kidding me? Are you thinking that — if a couple of us just showed up uninvited or god help you if you look brown in a Middle Eastern way — that not only would we have come under greater scrutiny and not be allowed in…IF you managed to skip through security, your behind would surely be in jail and maybe be dodging some nightsticks afterwards.
Not only does it disturb me that this happened.  We all know that there are sincere threats & even attempts on a regular basis on the president’s life. It troubles me deeply that I know about this. I now know way more about the White House’s sloppy entrance procedures than I ever wanted to know. This is a massive failure for those who protect the president on a few different levels and heads should roll over there.
I don’t care if the Salahis know some of the right people. I don’t care if they enjoy delusions of grandeur soon to be financed by reality TV. I don’t care how desperate they are. I do care who they really are — what are Salahi’s real connections — how desperate are they really for cash? I don’t care about them getting interviewed by Larry King (it shocks me that he would even consider rewarding their behavior with the very additional attention they seek. I do care about the security of the Obama family — the Salahis got close enough to kill a lot of people.
Their behavior should NOT be winked at. Their behavior should NOT  be seen as cute. They should NOT be allowed to profit from this mess. They SHOULD be in jail under felony charges to underscore to Americans and to the world that the Secret Service ain’t playin’. They lied to federal agents. They trespassed. If someone started running right now toward the White House and tried to scale the fence out front, they would be arrested and possibly even shot at by the snipers on the prez’s roof. WHY ARE THESE PEOPLE BEING TREATED DIFFERENTLY?! I hate to shout, but I think this is not ok. What the Salahis did was way more scary than that.  This is how nice black people who happen to live in the White House experience real danger and we should not stand for reverse racial profiling. I do not want to watch a bunch of skeevy social climbers who happen to look white and right get off with a serious crime scot free. It sends a bad message. A deadly message.

Even I am asking how did the secret service fail to prevent an Arab-American from entering a strictly non-Arab political event teeming with political sensitivitis? How did Obama’s political handlers fail to stop an Arab-American, a human political liability, from entering the ultra-exclusive shindig?

One could point to the blonde wife as a distraction for racial profilers. She is after all two feet taller than he.

Those of us with more knowledge of our people consider a blonde wife a huge tip-off for Arab heritage. Perhaps the security people were looking for the dark beard, dark eyes, big nose and bushy eyebrows type of Arab. This would explain why the fair-skinned Salahi slipped through. Perhaps racial profiling is as ineffective as the experts suggest, or the security people could use consultation from KABOBfest on how to catch under-the-radar Arabs.

A more likely explanation, though, is that they likely had to relax the racial profiling scrutiny that evening. [snip] How could security do their job? We all know white people think Arabs and Indians look the same, as post-September 11 hate crime patterns demonstrated.

I do care about the security of the Obama family — the Salahis got close enough to kill a lot of people. That Facebook photo of the 2 of them all huggin’ up on the Vice President turns my stomach.

Finally, I hope this encourages Eric Holder’s DOJ in actually doing something about racial profiling in America. It cuts both ways with innocent people jailed and the guilty going free. We will all be safer when law enforcement is fairly applied in our society. Even and especially POTUS & FLOTUS.
