A black bourgeoisie perspective on U.S. politics
What’s not being talked about in the whole John Stewart vs Jim Cramer dustup is how Jim Cramer for weeks prior to this had become increasingly strident in accusations of Barack Obama and other Democratic leaders as socialists or communists. I’m a regular viewer of Cramer’s Mad Money and watching his set fill up with portraits of Lenin, Marx, Mao, etc was sickening. His tirades, disgusting. He kept most of the hatred underground on the more mainstream appearances such as the Today show. The clip above actually isn’t CNBC — it’s MSNBC but it’s typical of Cramer’s rhetoric on CNBC, especially his own show. Cramer twists the President’s words out of context to compare Obama to Lenin.
The bottom line is that CNBC — leading with its star Jim Cramer — has been irresponsible, racist, inaccurate and inflammatory. CNBC is widely watched on Wall Street. It is an integral part of the problem and now you and me — we are the solution. Add your voice to mine, Garlin Gilchrist of SuperSpade, Chris Rabb of Afro-Netizen, James Rucker of Color of Change, Markos Moulitsas of DailyKos, Don Hazen of AlterNet, Justin Ruben of MoveOn.org and many other people who have had enough already. “You knew what the banks were doing, and yet were touting it for months and months. The entire network was.” — Jon Stewart
These now-legendary words were a wake-up call. We’re asking you to wake up.
Americans need CNBC to do strong, watchdog journalism – asking tough questions to Wall Street, debunking lies, and reporting the truth. Instead, CNBC has done PR for Wall Street. You’ve been so obsessed with getting “access” to failed CEOs that you willfully passed on misinformation to the public for years, helping to get us into the economic crisis we face today.
You screwed up badly. Don’t apologize – fix it!
CNBC should publicly declare that its new overriding mission will be responsible journalism that holds Wall Street accountable. As a down payment, we ask you to hire some new economic voices – people who have a track record of being right about the economic crisis and holding Wall Street executives’ feet to the fire.
Watch the video of an obsequious, sweaty Jim Cramer gets slapped around by John Stewart who asks Cramer over and over which side of Cramer’s mouth he’s talking from…
