A black bourgeoisie perspective on U.S. politics
YOU DIDN’T THINK I’D ACTUALLY PUT A PIC OF OXY MAN, DID YOU?
When I talk about double standards and whatnot, I like to be fair. So, while I’m not really writing this post to defend RNC Chair Michael Steele, I have to state that I believe the brotha is being set up to fail, and by his own party, no less. While we might not like Steele for his political affiliations (cause he seems to be like an abused spouse in this marriage: see (“Rihanna + Chris = Whitney + Bobby post below), as an African-American, regardless of whether or not I agree or disagree with your ideologies, I still experience pain when I see one of US getting subjected to bigotry. Even though they just might deserve what they get. Yeah, he probably asked for it by continuing to associate and affiliate with the GOP, long after they continue to whine about being inclusive, then diss POC in the same breath.
Apparently, Blubber Oxy (aka blowhard Limbaugh) has issues with Steele calling him out and saying publicly that this mofo is making an already difficult job of trying to woo POCs into the GOP tent, that much harder. From HuffPo, complete with video:
Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele took umbrage Saturday night when CNN’s D.L. Hughley referred to radio host Rush Limbaugh as “the de facto leader of the Republican party.”
“No he’s not. I’m the de facto leader of the Republican party,” Steele said. The RNC chief went on to call Limbaugh, who that very day delivered the keynote address to the Conservative Political Action Conference, a mere “entertainer” whose show is “incendiary” and “ugly.”
And, of course, Blubber fights back. From Plumline: Who’s in Charge of the GOP:
“I’m not in charge of the Republican Party, and I don’t want to be,” Rush said. “I would be embarrassed to say that I’m in charge of the Republican Party in a sad-sack state that it’s in. If I were chairman of the Republican Party, given the state that it’s in, I would quit.”
Rush then mocked those who have criticized him for saying he wants Obama to fail, and directly challenged them to choose: You either want Obama to succeed or fail at his goal of dismantling conservatism.
“So send those fundraising requests out,” Rush said in a sneering tone, in an apparent reference to Steele, adding: “Make sure you say, `We want Obama to succeed.’ So people understand your compassion.”
“Republicans and conservatives are sick and tired of being talked down to, they’re sick and tired of being lectured to,” Rush continued. “And until you show some understanding and respect for who they are, you’re gonna have a tough time rebuilding your party.”
If the GOP does this to one of “their own” in their pathetic attempt to be the “party of inclusion”, I’ll continue to pass on the invitation. What bothers me more is that I respect Steele’s attempts to reach out to US, his peeps, but the bigoted culture that represents most of the GOP is so enmeshed, they are compelled to be, well, BIGOTS, in every way, shape and form.
The double standard? Ah, hell, would Steele be going through the shyt he is if he were…CLARENCE THOMAS? At lease Steele likes African-Americans; Clarence never met one he didn’t hate…and that’s why he’s the darling of the GOP Wingnutts. Shoot, he even officiated at Blubber’s last wedding.
This may not be much of a post for open discussion – I’m thinking someone might want to bring popcorn, sodas and the stadium chairs out to watch this meltdown…
One of our regulars, D, may need to chime in on this. What do you think?
