David Dayen of D-Day and Rep. John Conyers get serious about fighting for our homes. Conyers is advocating to reform  bankruptcy laws to help prevent foreclosures. A foreclosure is not just about one family: foreclosures bring down home values for everyone in the surrounding area, empty homes can lead to crime and garbage buildup, the homeless population increases which taxes social services, etc. Not to mention the impact foreclosures continue to have on the entire banking system. You can read more on this from ZP Heller over at Brave New Film’s blog.

Here’s the video description:

Rep. John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) chair of the House Committee on the Judiciary and Congressman from Detroit, recently sponsored legislation to change the bankruptcy laws and help stop foreclosure. H.R. 200, the “Helping Families Save Their Homes in Bankruptcy Act of 2009,” includes several ideas similar to President Obama’s stimulus plan.

I gotta hand it to Brave New Foundation: somehow they managed to talk him into using Skype for this video. It’s adorable.
