A black bourgeoisie perspective on U.S. politics
Some of y’all jumped all over me when I suggested that cheese-eater Roland Burris was not worthy of the nomination to take Barack Obama’s Senate seat. That his presence would tarnish the seat, Illinois, Obama and all black people.
Burris has since changed his story numerous times now about his fundraising for and his connections with impeached former IL governor Rod Blagojevich. It’s disgusting. Now the new IL gov is joining calls for Burris to resign and trying to change the law to give him the boot. From local blog Progress Illinois:
At an ongoing press conference, Gov. Pat Quinn just asked Sen. Roland Burris to put the needs of Illinois residents before his own and step aside. Quinn reprised his support for legislation to change state law to fill U.S. Senate vacancies by special election and give the governor the power to appoint a temporary senator in the interim.
More to come …
UPDATE: Here’s the Tribune report. Capitol Fax has more.
UPDATE II: The Hill has an article up as well (and, miraculously, they don’t refer to Rep. Peter Roskam as a “centrist” Republican).
UPDATE III: Here’s the video, courtesy of CLTV:
What do you think? Is it finally time for Burris to step down? Should he have been allowed to take Obama’s seat in the first place? If/when he resigns, who should be appointed in Burris’ place? Lay it on me…
