This is a reasonable question to ask given her past membership in the Alaska Independence Party. Via ABC:

Officials of the Alaskan Independence Party say that Palin was once so independent, she was once a member of their party, which, since the 1970s, has been pushing for a legal vote for Alaskans to decide whether or not residents of the 49th state can secede from the United States.

And while McCain’s motto — as seen in a new TV ad — is “Country First,” the AIP’s motto is the exact opposite — “Alaska First — Alaska Always.”

This may be a great belief to hold for an Alaska politician, but the Vice President Of The United States Of America needs to be loyal to the United States. Palin doesn’t seem to understand that. DailyKos has a great post exposing her frightening Alaska-centric interpretation of her potential role as VP. Maybe Palin should run for president of Alaska.

Update: It’s been pointed out in the comments that Obama’s patriotism has been called into question. Given that Palin was an active member of an organization whose official platform included secession from the United States, it’s safe to say her patriotism is in serious doubt. I assume this question will be raised by our responsible media organizations during press conferences and debates. I’m looking forward to the informed discourse on this subject

John McCain had six months to choose a vice president. That’s more time than any nominee in history. He decided that Sarah Palin was the best America had to offer. Will he use the same thought process to appoint his cabinet and federal judges? Is he ready to lead?
