A black bourgeoisie perspective on U.S. politics
Looks like Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s troubles have bled over into his mama’s run for re-election to her seat. This is huge, as Kwame’s mama is also the Chair of the CBC and has been ineffective in leading them to stand as a caucus on things that matter to the districts they represent, and the Black community overall.
With 66% of the vote in, challenger Mary Waters is leading Rep. Kilpatrick 38% to 37%. Too close to call, but notable for those who want house cleaning in the CBC, to pay attention. To give Ms. Kilpatrict her due, according to past CBC Monitor Report Cards, she averaged 90% progressive voting until the last report card in February 2008, when she fell out of the Honor Society for the first time.
Could the CBC lose their Chair in this primary? What message will it send to the rest of the CBC?
