Jack & Jill Politics

Alert reader Nichelle sent this to Jack and me. It gave us a chuckle. On the one hand, it’s good to see rappers taking an interest in politics and encouraging their fans to vote. On the other hand, rap’s trash talk and competitive edge is not always a great mix with the happy shiny people vibe of politicians who slap each other’s back and glad hand at debates while trying to clobber each other at the polls.

It’s a good dub though. I thought it was kinda funny. It’s no will.i.am though. And hip hop — take a lesson. Your candidate will have to pretend like he doesn’t know you if you make raps like this to uh, “help” him. You may look cool on the internets and youtube, but you won’t look cool to the candidate.

According to Stereohyped, Obama has already moved quickly to put as much distance as possible between Ludacris and himself:

“As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesn’t want his daughters or any children exposed to. This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain, and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual he should be ashamed of these lyrics.”
