Race is a fallacy. Racism is true. <br><br>Some Latinos may to be "turned off" by the category of Negro? Well, for me I heard that a few ways. I know for some that will mean those people of African descent from the US. It beckons this thought that the checking the "box" means of that culture, not that color. Then of course, it can be heard in the way that those specific Hispanics who might see it as a personal option want to distance themselves from identifying as African American... Can't say that is not true, because Afrolatinos along with everyone else, receive the same messages about American blackness as everyone else, and it isn't always positive. Then again, some Afrolatinos have been pushed and prodded to "let go" of their Hispanic/ specific cultural heritage identity because of how dichotomous many believe racism is. [I've had some interesting conversations with several Afrolatinos about their experiences living in the South. These people felt a pressure they weren't prepared for, so I only offer that it may or may not be the case.)<br><br>As an aside, I want to hear the West Indian voice in this dialogue... Just saying...<br><br>If these Census boxes are about "color" then I ask... why the heck does it matter as a matter of data collection? Is it going to affect the way Walmart carries a wider variety of makeup color and hair care products? With this in mind, I ONCE AGAIN assert, make Hispanic a fake category like the rest of the fake category. Don't split fake hairs.<br><br>These categories are so convoluted, and that the act of putting really little square pegs into really big round holes, doesn't mean it fits, makes sense, or is good data.
