I drove back from Chicago on Tues and got caught in the snow. I ended up listening to the big talker 1210 AM in Ohio when Steele was interviewed by Dom Giordano.
Does anyone listen to these people? They are very good code talkers; dog whistlers. Steele does a great job of pimping for them. It raises a question as Why don't the Democrats use the words of the Republicans against them?
One of Steele's words/talking points was self empowerment. It is code for American ingenuity, self reliance, frontier spirit, going it alone. I am thinking within the context of health insurance reform why the Democrats aren't using self empowerment to push against them.
If you don't have to worry about your health and family's health, won't you be willing to “invest” your savings in a business and idea. Can you be empowered anymore?

How does Steele sleep at night? For that matter how does he face his own family? In my opinion, MOST (not all) black conservatives are opportunists because when you get to the core of the Republican party it's largely based on fear and hatred of blacks and other minorities. Black conservatives have to be willing to ignore all of that because they believe that the GOP has something to offer “good niggas”. Michael Steele is a perfect example, he sold is soul for a job.

I'm not bothered by Steele being an opportunist. What bothers me is that he has no talent. Steele is a functionary in a business where all of the principals, Republicans and Democrats, are opportunists. What distinguishes them from each other is the amount of talent they have. Some of them obviously have more talent than their colleagues but Steele's allotment is far too meagre and his vision is far too small for the part he has been given to play.

I agree. Steele understood that his appointment as RNC chair was not based on his credentials, but as a kneejerk response from the GOP to the election of Barack Obama. If they’re going to use him to carry out their agenda of being the anti-Obama, then he will use them to line his pockets.

I agree completely he's nothing more than an opportunist. He is a lot of things but dumb is not one of them. He knows there is a timer on his head. And we all know as much we talk $hit about Steele if he switched parties(like everyone is doing now). We'd welcome him over. Black folks are the most forgiving people on the planet sometime even to our own peril.

And Bob Parks, a black conservative Republican blogger, is wondering why Steele is releasing a for-pay book when the Contract With America had free distribution. Given Steele's recent controversy over his personal speaking fees while capitalizing on his RNC role, I wonder if the book proceeds go to the RNC or to Steele?

I said it before and I'll say it again:

Steele is about GETTING PAID.

He doesn't REMOTELY trust the GOP to ' have his back' when it's all said and done. He's not trusting them to give him the ' hookup', post RNC Chairmanship. He's getting paid NOW.

He looks around and sees Alberto Gonzales STILL unemployed...

he's not going to depend upon their ' generosity' after his time as chair is done.
