It is untenable because men, for better or worse, view marraige as settling for a "piece of ass". If you create a child it is supposed to be yours. You take responsibility. To find out its not is devasting. To have your spouse betray you by having you pay after she remarries is seen not only as an act of betrayal but one of revenge.

I concede your point about the politics of both wars, but that's a function of the War Industrial Complex. In that sense, all wars have been motivated by the same thing for decades.

But all wars are not created equal and intelligent people ought to stop treating them as such.

Well, I read the first 3 books because I heard about the fervor and was curious. Now I'm just as curious as how such poorly written semi-romantic claptrap has ended up such a phenomena. The first book introduces us to Bella Swan, a mopey 17 year old that has decided to go live with her sheriff father in a small gray town. Despite her feeling like she's nothing special, within the first 100 pages she's got a few guys wanting to date her. But then she meets Edward Cullen, the 'white and beautiful' who hangs around with his two brothers and two sisters. Everyone is fascinated by them but they don't bother with the other students. In no time at all, Edward stalks Bella and cuts her off from her friends and family. They tried to push this as a deep romance but in reality it's strictly about control. He even makes her do things she's adamant against. No, nothing sexual, though she wants to take it further, he won't do it. He comes into her room every night but it's just to watch her sleep. In the second book, which this film is based on, Edward leaves Bella, supposedly to keep her safe. But her Native American friend, Jacob, is there to serve as her new protector and loves her too. He's a werewolf, who's a natural enemy of the vampire. I can almost understand the teens' fascination with the books & movies but there are grown women out there who scream over this stuff! I also read that mothers are using it to teach their daughters about love and waiting! I still haven't read the final book because after the first 3, I just didn't have the stomach for it.

This is a common situation.

"The revelation from a DNA test was devastating and prompted him to leave his wife — but he had not renounced their child. He continued to feel that in all the ways that mattered, she was still his daughter, and he faithfully paid her child support."

Nothing has changed as far as his feelings about the child so why suddenly
decide child support is untenable. It was untenable from the very beginning but he was able to deal with it. I am not siding with the former wife but the law used to state that if your wife has a child, you are automatically the father. Perhaps that has changed now. The resentment is now there because she married the child's father. Thus, my statement about jealousy.
Why suddenly renounce the child?

They need to get the child predators out of their church and then they can worry about denying folks communion. To think I actually thought about joining the Catholic church some years ago.
