I was in Miami standing line at Burger King and this white woman gets in line behind me. Then of all of sudden I hear, “I'm over here O.J.” Tired ass Guns ain't putting two and two together but then she started yelling even louder. So I looked back because I heard a ruckus behind me. All I see is big headed ass Orenthal sweating and in a panic looking for his blond hair blue-eyed “princess.” True story. That's is one big man. If Simpson had been charged where the murders had been committed, he would have been tried largely by a jury of his actual peers: affluent, upper-middle class whites. Johnnie Cochran didn't have diddley-squat to do with where the D.A. charged Simpson.

…and if you ask some other black people, that's not the first thing they mention. Funny, but the sort of white person who wuould be most likely to cheer what you said would be the first to holler foul when they encounter black people who talk about us “pursuing our own interests” to the exclusion of the interests of whites as well as other people of color. But as long as you're talking about “pursuing our own interests” in terms of never partnering with other POC against people like them qhen it's necessary to do so, it's back-slappin' time.

Again, that's not my experience where I found absolutely no interest in “black causes”. I have participated in groups with a range of backgrounds at the local, national, and international level. These groups work for the common cause of building a better future.

Why aren't Latinos, Middle Eaterners, Indians, Asians, etc. grouping themselves in with blacks under the "people of color flag?"

They do, to some extent or another. Actually, I don't think the term "people of color" was popularized by blacks, but other people of color, and blacks don't use the term any more than they do.

As far as there not being any common ground, and them pursuing their own interests, there is common ground, and most of it is around questions of civil rights and civil liberties. Where those things are concerned, they do show a desire to be "lumped in with blacks", and rightfully so.

Point taken, but is that what we're really talking about? Yes, blacks need to own more businesses in and outside of black communities, and invest more in...black communities. In other words, how much can we blame them for doing that? Are you saying we should spurn them because they open businesses at a higher rate than we do? It seems as if by "persuing their own interests", you really mean "not totally dedicated to our interests". If that's the case, why would you expect them to be? And...it's not as if we are totally dedicated to their interests, either.
