It's not an either/or situation. I'm almost always suspicious of anyone who urges us to "shift the focus", rather than widening it. Besides, when I mentioned their common goal, I wasn't implying that their ultimate goal is to kill black people. To the extent they want to see that happen, it's just a means to an end, that end being the re-establishment of Jim Crow or something like it on a national scale. No, they don't want us to go away- that wouldn't be much fun for them.

The effects of blacks killing other blacks make the racialist right pale in comparison. Who's riding through the night streets killing blacks now? The Klan?

Matthew Hale.

And, all of them don't want to establish a separate white state.

None of them have reacted with a reign of terror...yet.

As far as putting on a shirt and tie, David Duke was the first to do that, and he is certainly part of the "racialist" movement, just like Taylor. Yeah, I know he's on the "we still need to hate Jews" side of the rift in that movement, but he's still part of it. Taylor, et al may not want to get their own hands dirty with openly espousing violence, but they certainly sympathize with those who do.

The point is, it doesn't matter if they happen to be Klansmen, "scientific racists", or extreme "libertarians", the effect of them seeing their goals come to fruition will have the same basic effect on black people.

I keep hearing about all the red flags on this man. When am I going to hear what things were done to this man to make him feel that he needed to openly show his contempt for our military. With all the nasty and scary things I hear from everyday citizens and especially the "so called Christian Right about muslins in general, and the things I've read about many in the military that are spurred to attack and kill abroad to save Christanity, I am convinced that this American citizen didn't just, all of a sudden, hate to go to war in Afghan or Iraq. There are some underlying causes for his actions. Although I know he must be punished for what he has done, I would like to believe that we would know the real case behind this madness. However with the military, I don't think we will ever be told the whole truth. I also wonder about the government take over of these mosques and the building started by the Shah. Why has it all happened immediately after this horrible thing at Fort Hood. Is this some kind of retaliation against all Muslins in America. That worries me.

One last thing regarding gang activity in the military. That's a recruitment problem. They need to do a better job weeding out gang members when they come to the recruiter's office. A lot of these recruiters are overzealous and trying to get the "numbers". And their superiors are part of the problem also because the senior leadership really slams the recruiters if they don't meet the numbers. Before the economic collapse the military especially the Army had a hard time recruiting for obvious reasons. The military was providing waivers for everything to get people to enlist especially for prior arrests, felonies included.

I hear you Monie. I was in the military and I'm rather sensitive to people scapegoating the military when a couple idiots have irrational behavior. There was a post on JJP a few days ago and it was talking about how Hassan, Muhammaed and McVeigh had a common thread........The Army. It kind of pissed me off and I wrote a pretty scathing post and I decided not to publish it because when some people write about the commonalities with crime and the military I don't think they are trying to scathe the military. They are just trying to point out when a person goes through "militarized" training and part of the training is dehumanizing the unintended effect is for them to show violent behavior in an environment where it is inappropriate. When those people leave the battlefield some of them have a hard time "turning off the switch". We all know the vast majority of crime is not perpetrated by members of the military. And honestly I feel like some people use their military training as an excuse. I served in Iraq and I know hundreds of people that have and are productive law-abiding citizens. Hassan, McVeigh and Muhammed had a slew of others issues and scapegoating the Army because a few nutbags go apeshit kind of pisses me off.

As Guns pointed out in an earlier exchange, accepting enrolment in the military means acknowledging that its mission is to kill. Gang bangers are ideal for this mission and the reason hardcore prisoners have been used. In addition, no other segment in this society surrenders their constitutional rights (slavery) as the solider does.

There is no other society like the military family, their sacrifices are far greater.

Now that we have all of that out of the way. If an individuals', in some instances, social inhibitor must be stripped to allow them to accept social deviate behavior of killing, what exactly keep all of the other social imperatives intact?

In other words, How does the military turn on just the killing part of a person's brain for its use only? And, a better question, how do they turn it off?

Believe me, there are library shelves full of books that addresses what happens after turning on a soldier's aggression. One of the "problems" after turning on the aggression is rape.

It's not an either/or situation. I'm almost always suspicious of anyone who urgers us to "shift the focus", rather than widening it.

The point of my posts, recognize that during the past eight years thousands of returning soldiers with PTSD, TBI, drug addictions, etc. received dishorable discharges and were dropped back into their communities without access to benefit of health care.

The California Nurses Assoc have written and petition extenstively on this issue to help military families.

Military suicides are at epidemic levels and no one gives a crap.

That could very well be the case Guns. I just remember that when my husband was an NCO, and had to counsel other young soldiers, gang activity was not one of the main issues...but yes there was some other delinquency issues, but many of those issues were often NOT that different than whtat young collegiates did at that same age, I mean the average Private is what 18, 19 years old (college-aged).

I guess I take issue with articles that blast things like "Does the military create rapist, and murderers, etc." I feel when we live in a nation that in 2004 it was calculated that 63 out of every 100,000 people were raped than this is a SOCIETAL issue..rape, violence and murder is a pathology that plagues America period...and can be magnified in military life.
