That shit will be stripped out of the final conference bill. If it isn't there will be a revolt by Democratic women, me included. But I think it will be stripped out and once there is a final bill for the president to sigh, any Democrat who votes against it will have hell to pay. Every it's the blue dogs or a single payer holdout (I'm looking at you Dennis Kucinich). They will lean on these motherfuckers for real. No way will Pelosi or Obama be apart of the Democratic Party giving women the toughest restrictions on abortion in 20 years. No fucking way. That Stupak fucker has no idea the kind of hell he has unleashed on himself or the Democrats. Democratic women will do “teabagger” on them.

Some people are going to claim he was willing to compromise on women's rights to sign a health care bill. He knows the language is most likely going to be in there. He is softening the blow with the statement he made in the interview.

He doesn't need cover on this. His pro-choice position has been well-known.

The only good thing to come out of this is that now we know who is willing to screw any chance at healthcare refrom at the expense of women's rights.

Well, let me be clear. Obama genuinely doesn't agree with the language. The progressives and some of the pro-choice crowd is angry that the House Democrat leadership allowed the amendment in the bill. Even though they really didn't have much of a choice. Obama can't be ambiguous on the abortion issue. He is basically saying, Well, I didn't want this. I want a health care bill. Abortion is arguably the most divisive issue in the country. Obama can't leave any room that he tolerates “infringement on women's rights.” There are people who vote strictly on abortion and they don't care what else is going on. He knows he may have to sign a health care bill with that language in there and he is softening the blow now.

Do you mean pass out of the House as part of the reconciliation bill? Or did you mean the Senate?

In either case it is a horrible piece of legislation because the logical extension of it is that a hospital could not perform abortions because the money coming from the public option inusurance program is fungible to move to supporting the hospital's ability to operate period.

Another thing I haven't heard a good reason for is dealing w/ abortion in the first place. I forget who but someone att JJP linked to an article about Stupak threatening people weeks before the issue hit the news. The point of the article was the fact the D's do not pay attention to religious based political activity.

Dr Nancy Snyderman just went ballistic on the Stupak Amendment. I don't think I've seen anyone make this kind of emotional, impassioned argument for women's rights on TV in years:

Snyderman: Kelly, you know what I find so infuriating about this? I mean, absolutely infuriating? And this isn't about being pro-choice or pro-abortion or any of the hot button lingo. We know women pay more for insurance than men. We know women are restricted in the states. And now it's basically, if you're a 50 year old woman and you're in a monogamous relationship you suddenly find yourself pregnant, you better have an abortion rider to access health care that you thought you had? It is one more pressure on women. I'm surprised that frankly there isn't more outrage over the fact that ...this isn't fair!

Kelly O'Donnell: What you're voicing is what woman after woman on the Democrat side, the progressive side of the party, said on the House floor. They came out one after another, speaking in very strong terms against this amendment the amendment did pass despite their objections. The amendment puts, as you describe, pressure on women to anticipate a need for something that is a very difficult personal experience with a lot more implications. It's not an easy situation for any woman and to now ask them to plan ahead for the potential and buy an extra policy, those who oppose this amendment say that is simply too much.

Snyderman: A white man deciding a woman's (deep breath)... deciding a woman's responsibility in her own procreation. I mean I ... I find it infuriating. I really think it doesn't matter what side of the abortion issue you're on, the fact that they are making health care harder and harder for women to navigate the system. I think it's outrageous. Just outrageous. Kelly O'Donnell, thank you.

And folks it's not about abortion. It really is about one more burden for women navigating the health care system. Before I blow my top, time to turn to Monica Novotny at the news desk. Monica, get me out of here ...

The health care bill doesn't have a chance of passing the Senate without that language. Obama knows this. He's just giving himself cover when the bill passes with the language.

I thought Dr. Lamont Hill got fired from Fox. He was on O'reilly tonight “filling in” for Juan Williams.
