I'm happy that she'll be moving to OWN other things.

I didn't watch it. Given the saturation coverage, I didn't need to. But there are lots of her shows that I don't bother to DVR. What of it? Still love and admire Oprah!!

Oprah, like most of White America – is only comfortable dealing with black men (specifically on her show) when we have achieved mainstream financial success or when we are socially adored by White America – I imagine on an unconscious level this makes us safe to her. If the black male doesn't fit her specific social construct of “success”, the only other acceptable black male is one that has been socially and financially castrated by the mainstream – I imagine on an unconscious level this makes us powerless to her. Put simply – like White America – she only likes engaging powerless safe black men. The problem with all of this is that most black men fall somewhere in between the two extremes of the very good and the very bad, and as a result, are not apart of the content of her show because she excludes that group. This is why I called her hate of black men thinly veiled. America as a whole is only comfortable engaging black men (and our issues) when we are Oscar host /winners (or something comparable) or degenerates. . Maybe hate is too strong a word. But Oprah definitely approaches and often dismisses black men in a similar manner that White America does. You can choose what to call it.

Also, I don’t know what “too black” is supposed to mean and what the “litmus test: is for such a term. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a vague, silly stupid term that doesn’t addresses the intricate nature of the Black American experience.

I also have strong memories of a series she did on racism during the 90s. She committed one show per month to the topic, and I was impressed. Her ability to occasionally delve into the truly substantive and often controversial was owed to the trust she had established with millions of white, middle american women. She reminds me of what Cosby was able to do with many episodes of his show.

I actually went with my mother to sit in the audience at an Oprah show in the early 2000s, and it was one of the happiest days of my mother's life! I also remember being able to see just how tired Oprah was between takes, but when the cameras started rolling, she was on.

Relentless, entrepreneurial and intelligent. That's how I think of Oprah Winfrey. Hope she keeps evolving!

The young men, who Oprah sponsored, were neither upper middle class blacks or legacies. And even if they were, that doesn't make them less Black.

It also doesn't negate the lack of range and depth in how black men have been portrayed on her show

I'm sure there are plenty of racist classist corporations that have given money to the “United Negro College Fund” to deflect from their depravity. I think “Walmart” sponsors Tavis Smiley's State of the Black Union fiasco, but look how Walmart treats it's workers – many of them are people of color. George Bush gave millions to Africa, does that mean he has a high regard for people of African decent? Naw – don't think so.

So, now Oprah is like Walmart and George Bush? Yeah, okay.

You can believe Oprah has a “thinly veiled hatred against Black men”, but you have yet to give concrete examples to support your belief. And when examples are given to counter your claim, you dismiss them with an air of “Blacker-than-thou” superiority, which leads me to believe that your “Black Enough” litmus test is so unrealistic, that no one can pass it….not even YOU.

Finally, giving money to a group – or an organization that works on behalf of the group – doesn't always mean one has a high regard for the group in which they are giving to.
