Oprah's is cool but her show does not cater to my demographic. I used to watch it with my mom as kid because we had one tv. Oprah and Days of our Lives I had to involuntarily “keep up with.”. She made her money good for her but I can't say I really care.

Good!! Oprah has become a classist media figure anyway. Her show caters primarily to upper middle class white women and the way she performs for them is embarrassing. She is a powerful woman and can do what she wants, but it's a shame she didn't use her show more to address socially conscious issues. Her thinly veiled hate for black men was also annoying..

And that is why I hadn't watched an entire show of Oprah's in 3 years. The Beckies were fawining all over Oprah, until she threw her big fat hat in the ring for Barack Hussein Obama and not Hillary Rodham Clinton.

I haven't watched Oprah consisently for years, I just catch a show here and there, mainly never.

Even if I was still an Oprah watcher, I would have stopped after she sold her soul to the devil (named Sara Palin) Monday. And for what? She dont need the money. That damn show could fall into the crapper today, and she still don't need the money. After 25 years and 300 million dollars, no one was gonna force Oprah to interview Sara Palin. I know she wants to claim “fairness”, but I'm sorry, Oprah ain't no journalist no more.

Seriously, the “sara palin” show really pissed me off.

Anyway, good or bad, without Oprah, there would be no Tyra Banks Show, Wendy Williams show, Rachel Ray show, Dr Phil Show, etc… Which come to think of it is probably more bad than good

Looking at the state of black men in the community, can you blame her?

It will mark the end of an era. The Oprah show used to be on when I was in primary school.

Not all black men are the same – there's a large range when it comes to us. She refuses to show that range on her show. She'd rather deal with the extremes of both sides when it comes to black men: Either the oscar winning black man or the downright demonic black men that are seen in many of the movies she supports – it's no wonder she and Tyler Perry like each other so much, they bith hate black men,=. And if she really cared about the conditions of black men,
(and I don't think she does) she could easily do more shows addressing the many underlying social issues that contribute to the current conditions of black men. She certainly does these sort of things with women.

Can you also forgive her for the green contacts? LOL

I know..how many THOUSANDS of Morehouse Men has she committed herself to paying for their entire education?

Tossing some money to Morehouse (which actually like many renowned HBCUs, caters primarilly to upper middle class blacks and legacies) doesn't negate what I belive to be Oprah's thinly veiled hate of black men. It also doesn't negate the lack of range and depth in how black men have been portrayed on her show or in the movies she's been involved with (I'm pretty sure there will be a downright demonic black male character in “Precious” or “The Color Purple 2009″ as I call it).

Finally, giving money to a group – or an organization that works on behalf of the group – doesn't always mean one has a high regard for the group in which they are giving to. I'm sure there are plenty of racist classist corporations that have given money to the “United Negro College Fund” to deflect from their depravity. I think “Walmart” sponsors Tavis Smiley's State of the Black Union fiasco, but look how Walmart treats it's workers – many of them are people of color. George Bush gave millions to Africa, does that mean he has a high regard for people of African decent? Naw – don't think so.

As I said before, her show doesn't show the full range of black men that exist. Instead it shows the drastic extremes of both sides: She either showcases an extraordinary strong example of a black male or a weird socially-degenerate example of a black male. It's either Denzel Washington or Mike Tyson. It's either Sydney Poitier or Michael Jackson. It's either Chris Rock or Terry McMillan’s gay husband. Even when she brought Kirk Franklin on it was only to discuss his pornography addiction, lol,

Oprah, like most of White America – is only comfortable dealing with black men (specifically on her show) when we have achieved mainstream financial success or when we are socially adored by White America – I imagine on an unconscious level this makes us safe to her. If the black male doesn't fit her specific social construct of “success”, the only other acceptable black male is one that has been socially and financially castrated by the mainstream – I imagine on an unconscious level this makes us powerless to her. Put simply – like White America – she only likes engaging powerless safe black men. The problem with all of this is that most black men fall somewhere in between the two extremes of the very good and the very bad, and as a result, are not apart of the content of her show because she excludes that group. This is why I called her hate of black men thinly veiled. America as a whole is only comfortable engaging black men (and our issues) when we are Oscar host /winners (or something comparable) or degenerates. . Maybe hate is too strong a word. But Oprah definitely approaches and often dismisses black men in a similar manner that White America does. You can choose what to call it.

Also, I don’t know what “too black” is supposed to mean and what the “litmus test: is for such a term. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a vague, silly stupid term that doesn’t addresses the intricate nature of the Black American experience.

And creating, growing and caring for this audience is a bad thing…why? So everyone who is creative or runs a business should only have fans/audiences/clients/customers who look like them?

Oh, because she wasn't singing Angie Stone's “Brotha” every week meant that she hated Black Men?

I'm happy that she'll be moving to OWN other things.

The 'Beckies?' Sounds a little racist- thought we were trying to get over all that. I guess I am a 'Becky'- lily white. blonde even. Voted for Barack Hussein Obama. Really think Oprah is a quality human being- what is it about her show that caters to upper middle class white women? Didn't realize it was all about skin color. Obviously still is for some.
