Jack & Jill Politics

In my memory (going back to my first vote for Carter), I don't remember ANY president taking such active interest in the lives of veterans and their families. I'm talking not just about the more symbolic acts but also about his policies and support for legislation.

I think he does this sincerely from the heart. But I also think he knows this is smart politics. He has called the conservatives' bluff. He does the right thing in a show of support that demonstrates more genuine respect for the women and men in uniform than the jingoistic right.
