But the the facts on the ground have changed since the campaign, and most of the so called terrorist are no longer in Afghanistan- they are in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and maybe Iran. Also, I agree with Rona Paul and others when they say that the occupation is fueling the terrorism and not curtailing the terrorism. Muslims don't want American military bases on the Arabian Peninsula any more than Americans want Muslim mosque next to the Washington monument - would Americans peacefully accept a foreign occupier on our soil or next to historical areas in our country? The Karzai government is corrupt and working with it is an exercise in futility and stupidity. The Soviets destroyed themselves trying to occupy and control Afghanistan, does history mean nothing to our elected leaders?

"And do you have a better candidate to back in 2012?"

There were good experienced principled candidates in 2008 like Kucinich and Richardson on the Democratic side and Ron Paul on the Republican side. There are always a couple good candidates in every election, but the American people are usually too uninformed ( and sometimes just too stupid) and most often go with candidates who can swindle them with slick marketing and empty promises and slogans like "Change you can believe in" or "Yes we Can". Apparently Obama meant "yes we can" escalate mindless wars, bank bailouts, privatized health care and the withholding of prisoners without trial when he campaigned, lol. Alan Grayson or Dennis Kucinch would be worthy of supporting in 2012, but would others be smart enough to support them? Probably not.

"Progressives need to decide if they are going to behave like grown-ups, organize and bring pressure to bear on the Congress and Senate not just Obama to get the legislation they want passed."

"Grown ups" - please, many progressive are the only ones who are behaving like grown ups by refusing to accept political half measures like a mandate to buy private health care and calling it "reform", bank bailouts for morally and financially bankrupt companies or depraved wars overseas. Progressives were the ones who were against the Iraq war from the start , when the rest of the country was falling for Bush's war propaganda and patriotism campaign. Also, the fight against these things are going on all the time. This is why organizations like moveon.org wanted to run ads against Blue DOG Democrats for their political cock blocking on health care reform. It's also why people like Howard Dean is calling the the current health care bill out for it's obvious deficiencies in helping the American people. "The Word Can't Wait" and "Code Pink" are incessantly protesting against the warmongering of our Congress, Senate and President- the mainstream media doesn't cover these things however.

"Are we willing to take it to the streets if necessary?"

As I said, there are people who are doing this all the time - it's not covered by the mainstream media . There have been massive protest outside the banking and financial institutions because of executive pay and bailouts. Protesters have gotten arrested for sit ins at Joe Lieberman's office the last couple of weeks. Students in California have been protesting the tuition hikes of the Public Universities in the state as result of the state's mismanagement of public funds - there are many other examples. Try watching Democracynow.org to see coverage of this type of stuff opposed to media outlets like CNN, ABC and the rest of the corporate crew.

"Or is it easier and safer to second-guess, trivialize, and demonize everything President Obama does while doing absolutely nothing to instigate and effect change like most good little Utopian socialists in training?"

Is it safer and easier to praise, support and make excuses and downright idolize Obama for every half measure he takes while in office? I personally prefer supporting the issues over a person. Obama sending 30,000- 40,000 more troops to the Middle East with no fiscal restrictions while 45,000 people a year continue to die from lack of health care because of fiscal restrictions on health reform spending (remember,Obama wants a "deficit neutral" health care bill, but NO restrictions on war spending) seems to be bit of a half measure, don't you think?

"Utopian socialists in training?"

Cute shallow insult. But wanting decent health care for Americans, and an end to pointless wars and bank bailouts is neither "Utopian" nor "Socialist": It's humane and just.

Peace.

“Evidently you didn't hear a word he said during his campaign about Afghanistan and Pakistan.”

I heard every word and never said that he was breaking his campaign promise by expanding our presence in Afghanistan. Try watching Democracynow.org to see coverage of this type of stuff opposed to media outlets like CNN, ABC and the rest of the corporate crew.

“Or is it easier and safer to second-guess, trivialize, and demonize everything President Obama does while doing absolutely nothing to instigate and effect change like most good little Utopian socialists in training?”

Is it safer and easier to praise, support and make excuses and downright idolize Obama for every half measure he takes while in office? I personally prefer supporting the issues over a person. Obama sending 30,000- 40,000 more troops to the Middle East with no fiscal restrictions while 45,000 people a year continue to die from lack of health care because of fiscal restrictions on health reform spending (remember,Obama wants a “deficit neutral” health care bill, but NO restrictions on war spending) seems to be bit of a half measure, don't you think?

“Utopian socialists in training?”

Cute shallow insult. But wanting decent health care for Americans, and an end to pointless wars and bank bailouts is neither “Utopian” nor “Socialist”: It's humane and just.

Peace.

By: allheavens

Evidently you didn't hear a word he said during his campaign about Afghanistan and Pakistan. Never mind the evolution of media distribution created by an open market. The large corporate trade associates want to control distribution abilities directly by breaking your TV.

The MPAA (Motion Pictures Association of America) has been trying to increase movie distribution while maintaining full control of their content. Throughout the years they have joined forces with the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) to take on media related websites, bit torrent technology, and various file sharing programs in an effort to crack down on illegal piracy.

Enter Selectable Output Control (aka The Cable Kill Swith).

“Selectable Output Control” (”SOC”) is the remote signaling of home devices by content providers or distributors, to turn off consumer home interfaces on a program-by-program basis. The interface in question would simply not operate for the particular program. It would mean that a consumer who has purchased an HDTV display, and pays for a set-top box or other device with an HDTV output, still might not receive all of the HDTV programs he or she has paid for — because the interface between the set-top box and the HDTV display has been turned off by remote control. In the long term, imposition of SOC could have the effect of driving from the market any home interface that supports home recording. HRRC has opposed imposition of SOC by law or in any context subject to regulation.

SOC is activated by data “triggers” that ride along with program information when it is sent to the home. FCC Encoding Rules currently ban SOC use, but the FCC has left the door open to its use in the future. – Home Recording Rights Coalition

Hollywood Wants Control of Your HDTV
IIRC, Sen Hatch was first to introduce legislation to create these content 'rights'. The first version also included language that allows the owner of the contents to viciously attack and disable a user's PC without penalty.
