As for the votes - I'm surprised Artur Davis is still the only turnocoat in the CBC. He's trying to curry favor in Alabama, since he's decided he wants to be governor.

rikyrah: FINALLY, I get ta do the OTHER HALF!! :>)
This was a momentous day in the House of Representatives and the USA and a long time coming, except for the Stupak Amendment. Like all aggressive and meaningful policy, it will take time to get all of the right things in it, like it did with Medicare, Social Security, and the likes. For all of the naysayers on the board, President Obama is the first President, since Theodore, not Franklin, Roosevelt to get health care reform done in this country, and he should be commended not chastised. What do you want to do, "cut off your nose to spite your face"? This is the beginning, as soon as the Senate passes its version and a final bill is signed by the President, of a path towards single payer. People didn't think it would be a Black President this soon, and look where we are, so don't be impatient towards the idea that every man, woman, and child will one day be covered under a system that universally covers everyone. This is a momentous hour, don't disparage it with your selfishness and negativity.

64 Democrats Voted To Put A Bureaucrat Between You, Your Insurance Provider, And Your Doctor On The Issue Of Abortion By: Jon Walker Saturday November 7, 2009 8:08 pm
In the House, the Stupak anti-abortion amendment passed 240 to 194 with one member voting present. 64 Democrats votes yes on the Stupak amendment. The Stupak amendment would effectively ban insurance companies from selling insurance plans that cover elective abortion on the individual and small group market. It would be one of the most far reaching national restriction placed on abortion in decades. It could also potential be used by insurance companies to allow them to legally discriminate against low income Americans.
Abortion would be the only legal medical procedure that the bill would ban insurance companies from covering. Abortion will be the only legal medical procedure the bill will officially “ration.” By voting for the amendment, 64 Democrats and all but one Republican voted to put a government bureaucrat between you, your insurance provider, and your doctor. If you choose to have an abortion, your doctor is willing to refer the procedure, and your insurance provider is willing to pay for the procedure, this amendment will have a government bureaucrat prevent that from happening. For all the talk about small government, these representatives are more than happy to give the government more power as long as it is used to restrict a woman’s right to choose.
The health care "reform" bill that passed in the house was a disgrace and an insult to the American people. The bill hands the American people's health over to the insurance companies on a silver platter while excusing the insurance companies from providing universal coverage to Americans. The bill - in essence - legally forces people to buy private health insurance and makes Americans who do no buy private health insurance subject to massive fines, taxes and penalties. This is not health care reform, it's a health care scam and financial bonanza for the insurance companies! I would be alright with all of this if the Insurance companies were legally forced to provide universal coverage to those that it services, that would be cool. But the insurance companies don't have to do that under this bill. The insurance companies will still have the ability to charge large deductibles and copays for patients who need extensive treatment or drugs for things like Cancer, AIDS, Parkinson's, brain tumors or any other severely debilitating disease. Ironically, Obama campaigned hard AGAINST mandates in the primaries in opposition of Hillary Clinton who supported them - it was their biggest point of contention. Yet now he conveniently supports mandates. I didn't realize I was voting for Clinton's bad ideas when I voted for Obama in the PA primaries. The biggest insult in this whole mess is that the "Public Option" was reduced to the following in the house bill:
"At its core, the measure would create a federally regulated marketplace where consumers could shop for coverage. In the bill's most controversial provision, the government would sell insurance, although the Congressional Budget Office forecasts that premiums for it would be more expensive than for policies sold by private companies."
"it would be more expensive than for policies sold by private companies."
Are you kidding me?! The bill essentially deters the few people eligible for government run health care from participating in government run health care because of inflated cost. What happened to the so called support for the Public Option that Obama and Democrats in Congress said they had? Where is this so called support represented in this bill? Why are the Democrats providing more customers and further enriching people like Aetna, Blue Cross and United States Health and calling it "reform"?
Finally, getting rid of preexisting conditions and age discriminatory practices will not prevent the insurance companies from creating new unethical loopholes to make money - especially now that almost ALL Americans will be legally required to buy their services, lol. As long as the insurance companies maintain over 95 percent of the market, there will be no real incentive for them to provide decent affordable universal coverage for American citizens who desperately need that coverage.
Obama and Congress are selling American people's health out to the insurance companies because of political cowardice, fear and for future campaign donations in 2010 and 2012 respectively ( I hope they lose both elections! - their worse than the republicans who do nothing). Anyone who doesn't see this given the facts thus far is foolish or dreaming.
Guns3000
Yeah, Bring Bush Back. OBAMA SUX
dthomas_85
At least most reasonable people knew Bush was a warmonger and corporate whore. Most reasonable people don't know that Obama is just as much a warmonger and a corporate whore - obviously
Guns3000
You're right dthomas. Lets Impeach him. Bush was so fucked up he got re-elected. And Obama is twice as bad as Bush. And the rate Obama is wrecking the country maybe we can amend the Constitution so he can get a third term.
You must be looking for perfection in a President. Next time vote for God because you sound like a little girl. It doesn't matter what happens you would still complain. You hate Bush. Bush is gone. You VOTE for Obama. Now you hate Obama. It's a waste of time for a politician to try to please a voter like you because really don't know what you want.
dthomas_85
"It's a waste of time for a politician to try to please a voter like you because really don't know what you want."
Do you have anything substantive or constructive to say about the bill that was passed in Congress, or do you just want to show blind support for Obama and the Democrats? I clearly laid out the problems I had with the bill that was passed in an earlier post with facts - try addressing those facts and not just the FACT that I'm criticizing Obama.
Also, many people like myself have been quite clear about what we really wanted on this issue: A robust medicare style public option for all. Progressives like myself are not the ones who have changed positions multiple times. Obama (and his blind supporters) along with most Democrats are the ones who have changed positions multiple times concerning this issue. For months and months we had to go through the annoyance of finding out if they genuinely support the public option or not? Well clearly, we got that answer to that question yesterday. They (the Democrats and Obama) are the ones who didn't know what they truly wanted for most of this debate, not me or anyone like myself.
Also I never voted for Bush.
Guns3000
Dthomas, I've laid out plenty of substantive and constructive comments to your posts in the past and you just want to complain. It's pointless having a debate with you. I've tried. You don't have a pragmatic or compromising bone in your body. You have no clue what it takes to pass legislation. I don't think you even understand the behind the scenes moves it takes to get votes for legislation. The debate always ends because you start bitching about how people on JJP get flamed for disagreeing with Obama and blah blah blah. Your posts are just a bitch session about the Obama administration. I'd rather debate a hardline conservative because atleast he/she knows who they are. And plus it's so much more fun just mocking your posts anyway.
And i'm tired of telling people like you. I've been saying it for months. The reason you are not going to get "a robust medicare style public option for all" is because..........drum roll please..............THEY DON'T HAVE THE FUCKING VOTES. How's that for constructive. Now please go to the DailyKos with the rest of the cry babies.
It will take more time to get more features into this legislation, like it has been with any major piece of legislation in the past. President Obama has led an effort that presidents have been attempting to accomplish since Theodore, Theodore not Franklin, Roosevelt. This is monumental in the extreme and a beginning path to what I feel will one day be single payer. As Guns has pointed out, it was no small feat for Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer to put together 218+ votes. No one, and I mean no one, can compare President Obama to former President Bush. GWB can only wish to have the intellect and political fervor of this man. Let's celebrate an accomplishment that no progressive, much less a Black man, has been able to even get to the House, and next the Senate, floor, much less passed. We tend to hold our own to unreachable standards that we don't expect of others, even when they achieve results that others haven't even come close to. Give the man his due today, and tomorrow, we'll call on him for the next great thing!! He'll be up for the fight!!!
Guns3000
Well said hale. What some people don't realize back in August people were calling this legislation DEAD. Now as a person who voted for Obama I can look at this legislation and can highlight out every little imperfection. Is the bill perfect? Ofcourse not. But if this bill stops one family from going bankrupt because of a catastrophic health issue.........MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. Every President that has ever tried to do what Obama and the Democratic leadership in Congress is doing HAS FAILED. Before you people start ranting and raving about a little provision in the bill think about the people who don't have a insurance and don't have a voice. They don't have time to wait for a "perfect" bill. Obama is doing what a President who wants to be great must do. Getting things accomplished because that's all that matters.
I don't think his voters listen to GB or RL but the Republican leadership may try to run him out of town. Who knows maybe he'll pull an Arlen Specter.
Town
He'll have to. Cantor stood on the steps and said NOT ONE REPUBLICAN IS GOING TO VOTE FOR THIS BILL. So now Cantor looks stupid (and I heard Cantor was standing next to Cao to intimidate him when the voting happened). You know the Becks and Limbaughs are going to accuse Cao of socialism, communism, doing it for the brothas, etc. So Cao might want to come on over to the Dem. side. I think Cao voted for the stimulus, too.
Guns3000
I may scrounge up a couple bucks and sent it to Cao. The only reason why they are trying to intimidate moderate Repubs because they are assuming they are going to have a big year in 2010 and they will if unemployment continues to get worse. But if it doesn't and I don't think it will all of this is going to come back and haunt them. I think the way Cao is doing is job he shouldn't have any problems getting re-elected as long as he is going back to his district and talking to regular folks. I think part of the reason why he got elected in the first place was low voter turnout and that people were apathetic over politics because of Dolla bill.

YOU are a RINO and a disgrace to the GOP.....please resign..traitor
You are a Disgrace to Catholics, American's & Rebublican's. I will make sure to do everything within my power to see you are not re-elected to anything ever.
I vow to financially support any conservative that runs against you. How dare you vote for any bill without fully understanding it and at over 2,000 pages there is no way you had time to fully understand it.
Maybe you don't understand how this country works, but we try to keep to our constitution. What you did last night will forever plague you and any failed attempts to run for reelection. I might as well hand you hour pink slip now.
SHAME ON YOU!!! YOU ARE A FAILURE AND A TRAITOR!!! You were the ONLY republican to vote for the healthscare bill, where MANY democrats voted against it... How much more proof do you need that YOU were WRONG!!!! You have put a willing hand in the destruction of America, and you will be remembered as a TRAITOR!!! Thanks for NOTHING, CAO TSE TUNG!!!
What is wrong with YOU???? Come the next election, the people of Louisiana are going to vote your butt out! The only people supporting you are those who want handouts! Let me ask you...if we are forced to take this government takeover of health insurance, are YOU going to go on it like the rest of us? The majority of the American people DO NOT WANT THIS BILL. WHY DON'T YOU LISTEN TO THE MAJORITY? He did listen to the majority...of the people in his district
Miranda
Damn they stupid.

... and let everyone say, "Amen!" It has been a long time coming. Now the Senate.
Sammy Sosa's skin appears to have lightened considerably. Photographs taken at an event in Las Vegas reveal a surprisingly light pigmentation on the former slugger. While no cause has been established at this time, the web site Midwest Sports Fans speculates that steroid use could be responsible:
There appears to be at least some evidence suggesting that steroid use could be one of the lifestyle choices that increases a person's likelihood of becoming symptomatic with vitiligo.
It was reported in June that Sosa, who captured the nation's attention as a prolific home run hitter in the 1990s and earlier this decade, tested positive for steroids in 2003.
LOOK: SEVERAL PICS.
WHAT???? I ain't NEVA heard of a connection between STEROIDS & VITILIGO!

I don't think voting for an amendment that
"prohibits the use of federal funding for abortion under the public health insurance option and prohibits the use of federal affordability credits to purchase a health insurance policy that covers abortion."
That's not voting against women's rights. If the abortion isn't needed for the woman's health, rape or incest they need to use their own money for it. It's a good amendment. I shouldn't have to pay for other people's irresponsibility. Thanks to those Dems for standing their ground.
donnadara
The amendment means that women who are paying premiums with their OWN MONEY will be unable to purchase a policy that covers abortion. That is restricting access for women who want to purchase insurance through the healthcare exchange.
Guns3000
Condoms are a lot cheaper.
RobM
And you keep arguing its a good bill, you couldn' get singlepayer becasue the votes weren't there, Kuninch is stupid because he stood on prinicipal and now women need condoms instead of abortion right. Unf@#$^& believable.
Plantsmantx
I guess we couldn't get a good bill because the votes weren't there.
I don't quite understand why out of all the Democrats who voted against this bill, BooMan goes after the only one who voted against it because of misgivings about it from the left. It's not as if the thing was compromised again and again to appease him, as was the case with the "Blue Dogs", many of whom still voted against it.
Guns3000
Well, the "Condoms" statement was a joke. Who said Kucinich was stupid because I didn't. Besides that what are you talking about?
RobM
I apologize for saying you said Kucinch was stupid. It was someone else. Your "joke' about condoms after the abortion amendment and how that was handled I just found totally tasteless. I find the way the healthcare reform bill has been handled poor and I do not believe it will come to fruition the way even the least optimistic will accept.
Guns3000
Well, maybe the "condoms" statement was a little out of line. I think the Dems in the Senate will find a way get a bill through. It may not be a bill that progressives want but it will be a health care bill. When a politician is trying to change a system that's been in place for decades it's going to be difficult. I understand the skepticism. But I don't think HC reform got this far just to fail.
RobM
No maybe, it was out of line. As to healthcare reform I the onus remains on the President to pass a bill w/ the public option. No opt out, no triggers, no coops. Then we still have to wait till 2013 for whatever happens.
ecthompson
