so since I gotta go to work tonight, I decided not to cook. No biggie, but now, I just watched a 4+hour marathon on the History channel which included "American Eats", and "Modern Marvel", all focused on holiday eats, and snacks, etc.

Now I'm so hungry I could eat a cow. Seriously, my stomach is literally begging for some turkey, dressing, gumbo, etc. I'm dying here. I'm off Saturday, and it looks like I gonna have to cook a Thanksgiving meal after Thanksgiving actually happened.

Thus far, we've proved pretty incapable of destroying the Taliban. And in opposing them we've cut deals with some other folks who every bit as undemocratic as the Taliban. Hell, Karzi and company have already been linked to all kinds of corruption, and that's the top echelon of the "democratic" government. There is no center in Afghanistan. it's just a grouping of rival tribal alliances (Taliban, Northern Alliance) and rival ethnic groups (Pashtun, Tajik) who hate each other.

I just got back. Someone I know last week decided to feed some people on Thanksgiving in one of the poorer predominately black neighborhoods in Ft. Lauderdale. So I showed up to help him out. And he had so much food it look like a buffet. I asked how much all did all this food cost? He told me,"NOTHING." He went to all the local groceries stores and small food shops and just asked for donations to feed the less fortunate. In less than 3 days he had, food, tables, napkins, forks, spoons and everything else you would need. What was shocking to me was how many people came and got food. And most weren't "homeless" in the sense of sleeping in a card board box. Some of these people had jobs but just couldn't put the money together for a big dinner. It was very satisfying knowing you brought a little sunshine to someone's life but I try not think about what happens when the meal is gone. This neighborhood is blocks away from downtown Ft. Lauderdale and I've been downtown hundreds of times but never to this place. People are really struggling out there. I was laid off for 10 months but I have a pretty strong family structure so I never wanted for anything. I'm happy I did it and I could tell the people really appreciated it.

Dubai World has approx $60b of debt. How many contracts are there outstanding that represent more than this sum. If in total it is 10X's it is $600b that has to be paid out. The Obama Adminstration is still allowing these things to be written/issued/sold. Does our treasury have $60b to spare, i.e. do you?

Another viable comparison for Obama is with JFK, and not just for the obvious reasons of youth, attractiveness, charming young family, etc. I think a great reference for reviewing JFK’s performance in office is Robert Dallek’s book, “An Unfinished Life.” He showed that Kennedy had a great capacity for learning, for encouraging if not demanding honest and open debate and more than enough self-confidence to change his mind. Kennedy was also very pragmatic, which made him slow to act in areas such as civil rights. But once Kennedy moved, he moved with confidence and usually with an effective, coherent and convincing message.

Consider the Cuban missile crisis. Yet Kennedy was also somewhat cool and aloof, as I believe is Obama.

But Kennedy found a way to show his humor, often self-deprecating, usually in press conferences. He also presented himself as a father in a way that made him human and attractive to Americans (who, of course, had no clue as to his marital, erm, practices).

I think Obama is much closer to achieving that level of warmth and personable nature than for which he’s given credit. I think his problem is that he can’t find a tool in the mass media that he can use as effectively as Kennedy used press conferences (or FDR used his fireside chats). Things are too diverse and there are too many other avenues through which your opponents can continue to criticize you. I think this will delay his success in “warming up the country” to him but it won’t eliminate it.

I believe in the end, the country will appreciate his seriousness, thoughtfulness and decision making process. If he can show some signs of success (especially in the economy), I think he will easily win a second term and lead the Democratic Party in a successful direction.

LOL! Oh yeah, in the process of making the macaroni and cheese, the cheese was discovered to be also moldy. The cheese was just bought last night, so it was back to the store (a different store) to get a new bag to make a fresh batch. Everything else turned out alright, though!

Town - there's always Burger King! One Thanksgiving when my daughter was small & she was at her father's, I celebrated with some friends and we had Italian - lasagna, salad, etc.

This year my nephews at home will go to their Dad's. My daughter is hitting the in-laws (all 3) with her partner & my granddaughter. My sister & I are hitting a local restaurant that has a holiday buffet. We're not cooking. I'll cook at Christmas.....and that's kinda iffy.

Enjoy whatever you get into today regardless.

Our Burger King sucks. Nobody goes there and they are STILL slow. Meanwhile both the McDonalds and Wendy's on either side of them have lines wrapped around the building. And we have to go to a different county to go to KFC because our local KFC sucks, they are always running out of chicken. How are you Kentucky Fried CHICKEN and you're running out of chicken? LOL

So is this story real or is it not?

The story, to me, is not that they crashed the event.

The story is how they were able to crash the event. I'm thinking somebody (Person A) was invited but gave these reality show people (People B) the tickets to be able to get in.

I've changed my mind entirely.

For many months many kossaks and I have been concerned about security for President Obama and his family.

Let's face it the party of angry white people who want their country back, have elements that are so threatened by a black man in the white house that they will stop at very little to put their world right.

The Secret Service has reported that threats against President Obama are higher than for any other president. Michelle felt compelled to tell everyone that she is not worried about their security.

But what happened at the first State Dinner for President Obama should be cause for great concern.

Two reality TV wannabes , Michaele and Tareq Salahi, successfully crashed the state dinner President and Mrs. Obama were holding for the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh and his wife.

Michaele and Tareq Salahi, were not on the guest list and did not set off metal detectors indicating a weapon. They got pictures with VP Biden, Raham Emmanuel, and others. The only reason they were caught is that they bragged about it on Facebook.

"She hates him," a source close to the U.N. goodwill ambassador, 34, tells the new issue of Us Weekly (on newsstands now).
"She's into education and rehabilitation and thinks Obama is all about welfare and handouts. She thinks Obama is really a socialist in disguise," adds the source.
But don't expect to see the Salt actress rally against Democrats on Fox News like her staunch Republican father, Jon Voight.

Since when did US magazine become a news source? And, just how much does this matter? When her black children come of age and start to question her and Brad about how and why they were adopted and begin to deal with self-identity, she will not have one little minute to be involved in arguments with Brad about Barack. Thanks to AIG, some of the poorest residents of rural Kentucky learned you can always be made poorer by corporate villains.

What are we getting in return for the bailout? So far, predatory credit card rates, exorbitant bank fees and obscene Wall Street bonuses. But we're being robbed in other, sneakier ways, too. It seems that taxpayers in the poorest, most vulnerable parts of the county are getting plundered by the same institutions they bailed out. One example is AIG's underhanded fleecing of residents of rural Kentucky.

Middlesboro and Clinton are two tiny, impoverished towns in southern Kentucky with a combined population of 12,000. In 2008, Middlesboro's per capita income was $13,189 a year, only a few hundred dollars more than the average worker earned in third-world Mexico. That is if they were lucky to even get a job. Real unemployment hovers somewhere around 30%, and the state is so broke that half the people eligible for unemployment benefits can't receive them. Life may be tough and most people live in poverty, but that doesn't mean they can't be made a little poorer. That's the lesson locals learned after bailed-out insurance villain AIG took over their water utility and instantly raised rates to squeeze an extra $1 million in profits out of its new customers, forcing some to consider choosing between running water and food.

The towns are so rural, their residents have yet to be touched by the Internet revolution.

Here is how the AIG takeover went down: In 2005, flush with cash from its shady dealings in the mortgage derivatives market, AIG announced that it was in the process of acquiring Utilities Inc., a holding company that controlled scores of small water utilities across 17 different states. With just 300,000 customers, the company wasn't huge, but it boasted of being the largest privately held water utility in the country.

"We have long considered water infrastructure as an attractive investment opportunity and an excellent complement to [our] existing energy infrastructure portfolio. Utilities Inc. is a leader in this industry and we are pleased that [we have] the opportunity to acquire this business,” AIG Chairman and CEO Win J. Neuger gloated in a press release.

AIG had reason to be pleased with its purchase. Water utilities are one hell of a profitable business, with international corporations easily making a 20 to 30% profit margin, according to a 2007 report by Food and Water Watch. In the US, federal regulations limit profits to 10%, a pesky rule that companies easily subvert by shuffling their income around and “investing” it in side businesses. These kinds of returns would be the envy of the pharmaceutical and oil industries. How do water companies do it? According to Food and Water Watch, they charge 50% more for services than public utilities and pocket the difference, thereby unleashing the potential of the free market.

Monies from the raiding of public coffers across the U.S. by AIG and a few others would support unemployed minority males for a lifetime in style.

If people don't realize corporatism is all about exterminating (I meant that literally) poor people of all races then they have their heads in the sand.

This just released study ( report in PDF form) from McKinsey & Co. was undertaken for international corporations known as The 2030 Water Resources Group. It consists of: The Barilla Group, The Coca-Cola Company, The International Finance Corporation, McKinsey & Company, Nestlé S.A., New Holland Agriculture, SABMiller, Standard Chartered Bank, and Syngenta AG.

The conclusions the study draws are not surprising to those who have even a passing interest in the subject. Global demand for water has long since exceeded supply. The report shows that over a billion people don’t have access to clean water; most of them in impoverished countries.

What is shocking is the accelerating rate at which we are consuming the water we have left. According to this report in just 20 years the demand for water will be 40 percent higher than reliable, accessible supplies, and more than 50 percent higher in the most rapidly developing countries.

Too many people and not enough resources. That's going to be a problem that more and more of us will be introduced to as time goes on.

Too many people is the stock answer given to resource questions while no attention is given to the waste of resources in the name of capitalism. A few of the companies named above sell bottled water and are responsible for some horrific deeds to corner the water marketplace.

No one has come up with a viable alternative to capitalism. Even though it is indeed a flawed system.

The benchmark of capitalism is free markets.

Markets haven't been free in a century.

Capitalism been dead. We live in the age of multinational, postindustrial corporatism.

The backbone of modern capitalism is of course no longer free markets. If it were, things like bailouts, progressive tax rates, FDIC insurance, etc. would not exist.

Crashing a state dinner at the White House apparently takes a security breakdown as well as some kind of nerve.

The Secret Service is looking into its own security procedures after determining that a Virginia couple, Michaele and Tareq Salahi, managed to slip into Tuesday night's state dinner at the White House even though they were not on the guest list, agency spokesman Ed Donovan said.

President Barack Obama was never in any danger because the party crashers went through the same security screening for weapons as the 300-plus people actually invited to the dinner honoring Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Donovan said.

Donovan confirmed the identities of the couple. The Washington Post, which first reported on their evening out, said the Salahis were well-known in the Virginia horse-country set.

I was just reading this. This has got to be against national security. Something should be done to deter this type of behaviour when the President is around.

A few weeks ago, had opportunity to listen to Abraham Bolden, first Black SS agent hired by JFK, who complained to his supervisors at the time about lax SS behavior and SS agents openingly saying they would not take a bullet for JFK. He expressed concern about PBO's safety.

there's a former SS Agent, I can't remember his name, but I heard him on the Bev Smith Show, and he's written a book talking about all that he doesn't think is being done for PBO and his safety.

This article reminds me of personal observations made during the previous admin, there was a tremendous transfer of wealth, control, and power transferred toTexas and some southern states. One example, watch for stories about drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Did you know that Texas state-line (this requires a change to U.S. Constitution) was changed to help give it control over resources in the Gulf of Mexico?
