As the AP reported, Thompson crushed Bloomberg among Latinos and African-Americans. Bloomberg did well with Whites and Asians (so much for the John Liu for Comptroller coattails theory).
There is much more dissection to be done on this race, by much more qualified people than myself. But here’s a takeaway – in 2005, during Bloomberg’s first re-election, his opponent garnered 503,219 votes. Last night, his opponent got 506,717. Meanwhile, votes for Bloomberg dropped from 678,444 to 557,059 – an 18% drop. Combine that with getting crushed in two core communities, and you end up with last night.

That is interesting. What will it mean in future?
I don't know what John Liu local issue is about. What happened, and how does it relate to Bloomberg tonight?
Anyway, Bloomberg apparently subscribes to the SCOREBOARD! theory. I really wish I had not watched that clip tonight of Bloomberg crowing about how a win is a win and all that matters is that he won. What the frack is that supposed to mean??! That clip put Bloomberg in an extremely negative light, and yet………… he had the same bright eyes and giddiness as the old white dude doing post-election analysis on macneil lehrer. this is all a fracking game to them, gaining laurels over sober acceptance of a job that needs to be done.
I want people who will get down to business, not crow about winning. Again, it was a very bad (to me) clip of Bloomberg because of what that snapshot said about who he is and what his real goals are. And what does that 'scoreboard!' philosophy mean for outreach to the sides who didn't support him? What exactly is he going to do for NYC now that he's won, like he's been reaching for the Lombardi trophy and to hell with what comes after?
