Why not? She's not yet at the age when kids start to close thenselves off to music that isn't considerede “cool” by young people. As far as her being unhappy, you don't know that. We're all seen her skipping and beaming, but I think we've seen her looking serious and thoughtful more often, from the beginning.

Exposing your kids to the larger world is called expecting them to be in the process of growing up- not forcing them to act like grown ups. That's damn good parenting!

Besides, why is it an either/or choice? Why can't she have both cultural exposure & the video games? Why do you assume she wasn't playing with the dog before she put the pretty dress on?

Some people actually have a secure enough sense of themselves to not care who laughs at them and why. You think self-identified transgender people give a shit that others want to box them into some binary definition of sex and/or gender?

The most persuasive argument you are making is that race is more of a social construct than a biological one. Some folks reject that out of hand, whether or not they are laughed at or called out of their name by a white supremacist, a Black-centric, or anybody else.

Definitions of race and identity will continue to evolve. We can evolve with the definitions are we can stay stuck in the past.

What we can't do is tell somebody else who they are and expect them to accept our definition.

Shaq paid for funeral of 5-year-old Shaniya Davis

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Basketball star Shaquille O'Neal paid for the funeral of a 5-year-old North Carolina girl after being moved by national news coverage of the case of Shaniya Davis, who police say was kidnapped and killed.

The Cleveland Cavaliers player was touched by the stories he saw and got in touch with the family to see what he could do to help, a spokeswoman for O'Neal said Thursday.

More than 2,000 people attended the girl's funeral Sunday. Her body was found Nov. 16 beside a rural road.

Her mother, Antionette Davis, who had reported the child missing six days earlier, is charged with human trafficking and child abuse involving prostitution. Mario McNeill is charged with murder, rape and kidnapping in the case.

"I was sitting at home watching it on the news and the story brought a tear to my eye," O'Neal told The Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper.

Corey Breece, of Rogers and Breece Funeral Home, which handled the service, declined to tell the Fayetteville Observer newspaper how much it cost but added that a child's funeral "averages around $4,500."

A man who answered the phone at the funeral home Thursday told the AP that only the owner could comment and that he was away.

Shaniya Davis' father, Bradley Lockhart, and his family had set up a trust fund in memory of Shaniya to help raise money to pay for the funeral. Lockhart was not available to talk Thursday, said a man who answered the phone at his home.

O'Neal is recovering from a shoulder injury that has sidelined him for six straight games since getting hurt Nov. 12 against Miami.

I hear you Craig and in a perfect world we could call ourselves what we want. But self-definition can't happen in a vacuum. A fat woman can think of herself as beautiful be when she steps out of her door and looks at billboards, magazine and music videos she will be reminded otherwise. Tiger had an upper-middle class upbringing in Southern California and raised on the golf courses of America. I can't blame him for his experience because your experience molds your view of the world and how you see yourself in it. Tiger's wealth insulates him from the realities of the world. But if the average multi-racial person went around identifying them self as a “Caublinasion” or whatever they would get laughed at. Personally, Tiger can call himself what we wants but he has only able to get away with it because he makes 100 million dollars a year.

Another thing as well. Since there is a preference for males a lot of femalesfetuses get aborted because of the one child policy. I think they tried to do the correct thing for overpopulation but in some areas in had unintended consequences. I think the Chinese has already started easing the restrictions on the one child policy and also I think they are going to start giving incentives for having female children. As far as the rural poor Chinese finding a mate. I'm not too sure about that. Most of them are too poor to even leave their province so going to another country is probably out of the question.

The suspect in the murder of four cops in Seattle coffee shop has a history:

Maurice Clemmons, the 37-year-old Tacoma man being sought for questioning in the killing of four Lakewood police officers this morning, has a long criminal record punctuated by violence, erratic behavior and concerns about his mental health. Nine years ago, then-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee granted clemency to Clemmons, commuting his lengthy prison sentence over the protests of prosecutors.

The base won't like that, will they?
