I think many folks don't realize that white women spend as much time and money on their hair as sistas do. It ain't like they wake up and their hair is perfect and in place. The whole hair care business is a billion dollar enterprise.

Town, like D. said to me the other day, “You know…I like you.” You know how to break it down like fraction. Everything you listed in this post is the earthly, gospel truth.

Second of all, O needs to find someone to remind the Republicans that they sat around for eight years and let this deteriorate and now they're complaining. This is like me drunk driving and crashing into your car and then scream bloody murder when you want me to pay for the tow truck, your medical bills, and your pain and suffering. No, the Repubs have no right to be aggrieved about anything. Letting Bin Laden go in Tora Bora and allowing Pakistan to get aid and not track it carefully was negligent….PERIOD.

The Republican leadership have no right to be complaining about O's handling of the war in Afghanistan. They left O a piece of dog poop, and don't deserve to get mad that O can't turn it into a diamond as quickly as they want.

Preach, Sepia. And major LOL about the Dax…way old school. Jewish women have a lot of these same pathologies with hair straightening and they used to get nose jobs a great deal as well to look less “Jewish”. You remember in “The Way we Were” when Barbara Streisand's character got her hair straightened in a black neighborhood to look like he shiksa friends who were getting the guys. Barbara needs to stop acting as if Jewish women and some white ethnic women with really curly hair, like Italians, don't do the hair straightening thing to be more white. Jews and Italians “whiteness” was not assured in 19th century and early 20th century America and they did these things, hair straightening and nose jobs to get ahead in WASP society. Black women are not the only people with hair pathologies.

Yep, instead of being informative and a way for white women to commiserate with black women about women having to spend so much time on hair or to reflect on white superiority that helped create some black women's pathology when it comes to hair, it will turn into a project that “otherizes” black women as degenerate or flawed.

I love Charlie Rangel as a person, but he has to go and so does Murtha…they are too corrupt and dispensible b/c they are in safe districts, especially Rangel here in NY, and other Dems are going to get their committee assignments and Dems will win their seats. Let them vote for health care then boot them quickly. If they are not dealt with now, the Repubs will start a Dem “corruption meme” for the 2010 elections.

I didn't have a problem with it until I saw today's interview and how he's promoting it. Ok, women in GENERAL spend a lot of money on hair/appearance. Men don't go to get their nails done on a regular, is he going to do a documentary about that when his daughters get old enough to want mani-pedis? They asked him his definition of “Good hair” and he said “whatever works for you” but it seems from all of the previews as well as how he's promoting it, that he takes issue with what some people consider “good hair”. Natural or relaxed Black women would STILL have to spend a lot of time on their hair (unless they cut it all off).

I think the reason people are up in arms is because the intention might be to “inform” people about black women's hair but all white people are taking away from it is “black women wear lots of weaves and are addicted to creamy crack.”
