Supposedly the infant was at the 99%-ile for weight-at-age. However, one can't assess health status on a single metric. Diet is not a factor; he was breast fed for crying out loud. From the picture I saw, he appears height-weight proportionate. How big are his parents, his kin-folK?

But really, this is not about this child. This is about an insurance company carving out blocks of presumptive outlier risk classes to increase PROFITS!

This isn't an example for why we need the public option. The public option is not a guarantee of receiving health care. It's a guarantee of the hope of receiving health care. You can still be denied coverage, you can still be left on a waiting list, you can still be left to die. In fact, it's a guarantee of those things.

The good thing about this story at this time is that these parents could simply go to another insurance company, something they won't be able to do once the public option kills the private market for insurance.

Another thing is that if this was found to be incorrect, the family could sue. But good luck suing the government when they tell you to screw off.

Face it, the public option has failed in every country it's been tried in and our country is multiple times larger than the others as well. You can't solve problems by growing government and looting one group and giving to another. The only thing that gets redistributed in socialist, communist, and fascist countries is misery.

The bottom line for all this stuff is that it is driven by personal behavior patterns. If we are going to nanny state legislation where the fastfood places can be sued for transfats and the drinkers can be arrested for driving without accidents...then you are looking at the same thing for obesity.

No one is blaming anyone...however...look what we did to smokers...obesity is as bad as smoking in terms of health risks.

It doesn't matter what folks set out to do. This infant is phucking morbidly obese at FOUR MONTHS OLD!! That is a hallmark for a lifetime of obesity. The mother is killing her own child and claiming she doesn't know what to do? GMAFB...the child is HUGE. This is not a chubby check child..this is an infant that is going to have lifetime health issues.

Folks had no sympathy for smokers, and in the next 5 years they are not going to have any for obesity EITHER nor adult onset Diabetes...cause they are preventable. Nothing but diet and exercise.

So, where do you think the line will be drawn, for alcholics, drug users and obese folks with cardiac problems?

The way our society is moving all of those personal behavioral habits will be targeted just like smoking was. It impacts society and costs foks money so we create laws to prevent that.

I agree shyt happens and these poor nutritional and drug habits will be next on the list.

I'm betting that those ditto heads don't have kids, and if they do, a nanny named Margarita is their primary caregiver, and probably wet nurses them, too, so they don't have to lose their figures or be off the air too long because of maternity leave.

You risk going down a slippery slope when discussing the obese.

It is easy to blame them for overeating, but when all the factors that contribute to obesity, other than eating, are not looked at, you risk lumping people together for something that may well be out of their own control.

I don't think people set out to be fat; just like no individual sets out to be an alcoholic, drug abuser, or anything else that gets off the scale.

Life happens, and when life happens, shyt happens. Facts are good, but when they are not combined with sensitivity and compassion, you have THE GOP.

Everyone whom wants pot will be growing it at home w/help from a tremendous online community. Most other drugs that can be grown at home will end up doing the same. Except for chemical drugs like MDMA, barbituates, speed that have no living substitute(mushrooms for LSD) that will not be much to sell.

WRB
could you elaborate on a couple of things you brought up?
As an insurer w/ your studies you wouldn't insure the baby either. Did you mean no insurance or a different risk pool?

You mentioned discriminating against people whom are huge risks. How would you handle them w/ a government single payer system.

To answer your last question i do believe that the unhealthy will be forced to change their habits shortly to receive healthcare. What I haven't got a handle on is how it is going to play out among the poor for whom eating a guilty pleasure meal is their only source of well being in a stressful day?

my Peanut was chubby in the womb - only thing we could see in the ultrasound were those fat cheeks.

she was chubby from the moment she was born until about 2 months ago, when she remained the same weight, but grew 6 inches. all those 24 months that ' just fit', now are loose, and she can fit well into 12 months- 18 months, which didn't fit her at all 3 and half months ago.

she eats well, so it's just her being a baby.

There is all types of long term health data that shows fat babies become obese adults and they typically will develop diabetes as well as heart disease and 'metabolic syndrome'

So, I can see what the insurer is saying. From their vantage point this infant is just a chronic disease waiting to happen.

Anyway you look at it, this baby is big...the average baby weighs 6-8 lbs at birth and doubles that weight by 6months..it is 12-16 lbs.

This baby is 17 friggin lbs at 4 months...that is off the chart fat!!.

The question is WTF is his mother eating...cause that is clearly the source of his obesity.
