What was the actual quote you're referring to when you say the WH asked other news organizztions not to treat Fox as a legitimate news org?

Plant you don't feel little uncomfortable about this. What if the administration stops talking to CBS or NBC. This is real slippery slope. It's really a dumb move. What's the endgame? Fox isn't going away. They are not going to change their opinion. They don't like Obama. Who gives a shit. Obama won election with Fox pounding him everyday. The more the WH makes Fox an issue the more they are made a hero to a large segment of the population. And now the WH has egg on their face because the other news agencies are rallying around Fox because they weren't given access. And why do think that this? Because the other agencies think it can happen to them. Strategically, it is dumb at best and Obama needs to reign in his lieutenants.

That's already happened. Didn't you see Dana Perino's comment? Bush froze news orgs out at one point or another, and I never thought it violated their right to free speech. Yes, more or less subjectively, I think Bush was wrong for doing it, and Obama is right for doing it, but stepping back and looking at it objectively, the question of abridgement of free speech doesn't enter into at all.

I don't think the WH has egg on its face, but you mentioned the key word there…access. Their right to free speech doesn't include a right to access.

I can't see For Colored Girls… being done as a film. I don't know how it would work on the screen. Obviously, a lot of people, including Ntozake, believe that there is a chance to make some money here but it is an odd choice.

I don't disagree with anything you wrote but Perry's audience love and crave these simplistic melodramas. His devotees don't want complex plots or characters. I have had discussions, for example, with members of my family who couldn't make heads or tails of movies such as <Eve's Bayou or Devil in a Blue Dress but thoroughly enjoy anything that Perry does. It is a battles that I have opted out of. There is nothing than can be done to alter their popular culture preferences.

Again where was this outrage when bush shutout MSNBC?This has nothing to do with free speech and everything to do with the corporate owned media which can be classified as right wing kissing each others ass.They and their apologist may think they won but we shall see.

It's more than just their opinion. There's nothing wrong with Fox having an opinion. It's the distortion and out-and-out lies that are the problem. It was wrong for Bush to do it because he did it for the wrong reason. But as I said before, although I didn't like it, I didn't act as if Bush had no right to do it, so it's not as if I'm giving Obama a pass where I didn't give Bush one.

If it does happen, it won't be because they ran stories the WH doesn't like. It would be because they engaged in what Fox has engaged in, and under those circumstances, there would be nothing wrong with denying them access, either.

No, the WH did more than that. They ask the other news organizations not to treat FOX as a legitimate news org and not to cover FOX as though they are a legitimate news org. Pointing it out is not the problem, trying to get news orgs that the WH believes are “legitimate” news orgs, is the issue.

I'm still not seeing how that keeps them from saying what they want to say. Obama complained about the “legitimate” news orgs letting themselves be intimidated by Fox into treating their bogus stories as legitimate. Seems fair to me.

That's not a very smart thing to say. Whether you like it or not Fox is mainstream news organization and the most watched cable news channel. Your stromfront analogy doesn't hold water. Presidents and other politicians don't appear on mad magazine or stormfront. It's a slippery slope when any WH tries to delegitamize any news organization. Where does it end if they are allowed to do this? Where does the WH get the power to do this to any news organization. Fox has 3 million viewers and 3/4 of them are batshit crazy.The US has over 307 million people.Now why give legitimacy to them.Hell the enquirer has more viewers.Be conservative but dont make shit up.And for the other networks that defend them?Its this thing call evolution.You either adapt or die.Defend a free and fair press and prosper.Defend tabloid journalism then die.We dont need you for news anymore.We all report and then we decide.

Hmmm dj. You are dissing fox viewers. How many viewers do MSNBC or CNN have? But that's not even the point. The only reason why this is happening because the WH doesn't like the opinions that come out the FOX news channel. That's a problem. Where does it end? If it can happen to Fox it can happen to CBS or NBC. And that's why they rallied around Fox and now the WH looks like a bunch of dumb dumbs.

I have to jump in here(better late than never :) ) I agree with you, in the long run if a network show had 3 million viewers it would be canceled. I also want to say it's unfair to compare Fox's ratings to MSNBC when, more often than not, cable systems have FOX in their basic package while MSNBC is either not offered or part of a higher priced package. It's like talking about Rush Limbaugh's ratings as compared to Tom Joyner-Rush is on 400 stations in loads of markets while Tom isn't in even half of those.
