In the General Election of 2008, McCain carried Texas. Currently,Texas Democrats in the State House and Senate are fighting to gain majorities. Any opt-out provisions in the bill have the potential of being exercised by Texas Government, to the detriment of millions of Texans. Please do not forget that Texas Governor Perry refused/opted-out of federal money from the stimulus package earlier this year. Don't think Republicans won't do it again just to stick it to the Obama administration. In the Lone Star State, some people still will not accept the help or leadership of people of color. The health care bill is known as ObamaScare in the hinterlands of Texas, and euphemistically cloaked racist attacks are made fresh daily on local talk radio, newspapers, and other media in the name of healthy, political discourse. Opting out might prove politically advantageous to Texas Republicans and tempting to some Texas Democrats in tight races at all levels of government.
