if michael steele won i'd say ” i don't agree with/understand the choice, but congrats to him anyway.” the same rules from grade school still apply; when someone gets a prize or award that you think ought to have gone to someone else, you are free to question the choice, but you don't start hollering about how they ought to give it back. you'd rightfully get slapped down by your momma for that kind of behavior.

You probaly missed it but I congratulated President Obama for winning the Nobel Peace Price. I have also seen some very cogent arguments for not awarding it to him that have nothing to do w/ hating him for who he is? Nor is the Nobel Peace Prize have anything to do w/ this thread

This tread started by cockroachpeople is about the systematic attack by the Republican party and its allies to discredit organizations that help the poor, disenfranchised and powerless. I attacked President Obama because his statement about ACORN should be investigated was ill advised and did not reflect the realities of the attack again ACORN or the real problems of ACORN. By saying they should be investigated he pulled a sista souljah moment, IMO. It is a legitimate criticism and isn't refuted by the fact he won the Nobel Peace Prize

Reread this article I posted earlier about ACORN and its history. If you understand what they do tell me how President Obama's statement was helpful to their cause? Tell me how he didn't denigrate community organizers?

I don't know how the opt out will work. I do hope that when the premiums skyrocket they wise up. So let's use your example of a vote.

Do you honestly believe that the white people whom vote in people like Rick Perry Gov TX. Sonny Perdue Gov GA or Mark Sanford Gov SC are going to vote against them if they argue for opting out? Isn't this the same deal as Social Security in 1933? Do you honestly think President Obama will sign a bill that fucks African Americans? Do you want any part of this?
If President Obama does agree to this doesn't his make him the same as Mike Steele and George Bush? Doesn't it mean once again our interests are second class? I for one will not subordinate my interests. I will not take one for Charlie. It will also mean President Obama is a…. And I will go there if he does this.

I only caught the last part of it, but Christiane asked Gates about airstrikes in Afghanistan, and how the people of Afghanistan felt about them, and she asked him if the US thinks airstrikes, which resulted in civilian casualities, is the way that the US think will work, and if he felt that it was the way to go “morally” given the civilians casualities.

The other guy asked Secretary Clinton about how the US is handling the new information age and how information is disseminated differently today (cell phones, texting, email, etc). Clinton talked about Iran and Twitter, and the State Dept request that Twitter not “shut down” for maintenance during the time when the Iranians were using Twitter as their only source of info to the outside world, and she also discussed some new things they are doing in Afghanistan, where they have discovered that there is limited cell phone coverage in the region, and the state and military are attempted to put up more cell towers to enhance cell phone communication, particularly becasue what they found was the the Taliban(?) used cell phones as a way of intimidation, i.e. “we will behead this person” or “we will arrest that person…” etc.

The little bit I saw was pretty interesting. I'm gonna tivo it and try to watch the whole thing.
