Now past the class-envy aspect, I strenuously agree something needs to be done with healthcare. Proposals: Allow anyone to join Medicare, after calculating the true cost of coverage. Subsidize those who need it. Mandate insurers offer a minimum basic (catastrophic) plan (standardized across the country). I'm not in favor of mandating coverage though. Who will make sure everyone is doing their part? What kind of police-type agency will enforce it? Do you want the government to be able to go after you assets for a hospital bill if you let your coverage lapse? It stands to reason bureaucrats will be harder to negotiate with than an insurance company or hospital. After all they will have your medical, employment, tax, banking and other records. HR 3200 explicitly asks for your banking info by the way. I don't like the current solutions, but I do want to be able to take my son to speech, occupational, and physical therapy for reasonable cost. They charge
$256/hr now because I have insurance. Medicare patients pay $45/hr. New hearing aids for him cost $5k (not covered). Will you chip in, kind sir?
