Why is it AA stars/celebs never have helpful CPAs around them?

Within Reeves' story lies a Hemsley truism "Only the poor pay taxes". Long before payday stores and predatory lenders, the IRS visited the poor. I had been wondering if the IRS had slowed down because of the recession, obviously not.

Of all the places in the US for the IRS to be in operation, Detroit should NOT be one of them.

Detroit City Councilwoman, Motown star Martha Reeves may owe up to $280,000 in tax liens

Martha Reeves' recent decision to run out on the Detroit City Council for a European mini-tour makes more sense in light of the fact the Internal Revenue Service and Michigan Treasurer have filed a series of liens against her totaling nearly $280,000.

Apparently, the $81,000 she's paid each year for her service on the council (and the free Crown Victoria) just isn't cutting it.

Freep.com, July 19: The lead singer of Martha Reeves & the Vandellas was slapped with an Internal Revenue Service lien amounting to $69,565 in 2003. Late in 2006, after taking a seat on the City Council, Reeves was hit with another federal tax lien for $193,167. The Michigan Treasurer joined the act in 2008, putting a lien for $7,392 on Reeves. And on May 27, the IRS tacked on another lien for $9,470.

It's unclear how much Reeves still owes the IRS, but if a lien was paid off a lien release would be filed.
