Picture of the Grand Teton National Park by Ansel Adams
This week, beginning Sunday, filmmaker Ken Burns is doing a series on the National Park System. Check your tv guide to see the times and listings for your local PBS station.
i caught most of this last night. it was f*cking beautiful and amazing, and puts all the other so-called educational channels to shame. seems like the History&Discovery channels are always showing apocalyptic shows on tornadoes or Nostradamus or 2012, playing on our fears instead of our hopes.
also, never realized how great John Muir was! what an American Hero...
I checked out part of the National Parks special last night. Beautiful. National Parks actually played a critical role in my upbringing. By the time I was 12 years old, I had been to every state on the east coast and circumnavigated the U.S. via train. My mom had almost no money, but we were able to do lots of camping trips (at $10 per night) in national and state parks across the country. For a little black boy in DC in the 80s, this exposure to the outside world was essential in expanding my view of the possible.
I watched a good part of it, then watched the part I missed (TiVo). But Yellowstone is over in the corner of our state, and we have beautiful state parks along with some REAL wilderness.

I love the pictures from Ansel Adams. He is a truly blessed photographer. His eyes capture the true beauty of our National Parks. I have recently become aware of former President Bill Clinton's decision to give the United Nations over 50% of our National Parks in 1996, under an Executive Order 12986. It is under a guise of enviromental biosphere agencies of the United Nations. They are truly a beautiful part of the United States. I am boondoggled as to why he would give away our most beautiful parks to anyone? And another little FYI, Hillary Clinton is Secretary of State, which, she has the final say on what to do, with anything involving another United Nations creation here in America, the Arms Control & Disarmament Act of 1961, which became a Public Law 87-297 US Code 22. Of course she would take into consideration the advice from the Director and the Deputy Director of the Arms Control & Disarmament enforcers. Oh yea, of the U.N. Just sharing some thoughts and trying to help everyone become more informed and more aware. Thank you for taking time to read this. Mylene
