Finding specialists who accept Medicare is what I'm talking about. If a senior or vet needs to see an endocrinologist, or a kidney specialist there-are-long-waits. The only way you get to see them earlier is if you have an acute situation. Do you think the best doctors accept Medicare? There are doctors and then there are doctors. You'll get to see the doctors that will accept Medicare, on their schedule. This is defacto rationing that will only increase exponentially with more government involvement as proposed. As far as I can tell, these bills don't mandate that all doctors see Medicare patients. Medicare has its own rules about this too. Rationing and lower standards of care are an undeniable fact in the systems that are government managed. I do agree that rationed care is better than NO care, however. I just don't want to be forced to accept less, even if I'm willing to pay for what I want. The tenor of this debate leads me to believe I have something to worry about.

I don't disagree with universal coverage. I disagree with lying about the intentions and the costs involved, as well as having the government control one more aspect of my life. There are lots of ways to address the current problems without applying another layer of government overhead and "management". Controlling costs can be as simple as allows interstate insurance coverage, then regulating (capping) standard procedure costs. If you want to pay more, pay out of your pocket. An emergency room visit shouldn't cost $1000 minimum for starters either.

Recent true example: My pregnant wife has a Non-Stress-Test. In the labor/delivery wing, they hooked her up to the fetal monitor for 45 mins. The hospital billed Blue Cross $800, and I'm 80/20. So, Blue Cross probably only paid a few bucks per their contract, and the hospital is getting my copay (which is probably what it's worth-$160). Medicare/Medicaid would only have paid a max of $50 (hcpc code 59025). This kind of crap can be reformed without government takeover. Everyone is fine BTW, baby girl was born 9/7/9, 8lb 3oz.

What are you talking about? Doctors have a problem with the rates Medicare sets for reimbursments of medical visits. Thats it . Doctors arent complaining about long waits and rationing in Medicare because neither of those things are happening.

Ask your own doctor what they think of Medicare and how it affects their practice. If you don't see a doctor who accepts Medicare patients then you're probably too uppity to comment on this issue without being a hypocrite. This means your doctor doesn't think he will get paid enough to see someone on Medicare.

The public option as has been proposed sucks, and is just another tax on MOST all Americans. I'm all for finding ways to cover the uninsured, but lowering everyone's standard of care shouldn't be the best way to accomplish it. If 3200 and Baucus are passed and conferenced, our combined standard of care will spiral downward to levels below Medicare. MRI's, CAT scans, PET scans, expensive enzyme and stress tests, reconstructive surgeries, disc fusions, carpal tunnel surgeries.......all will be harder to get because the budget will only allow so many. It's called RATIONING and any government run setup that has a true budget will be subject to it.
