Every election the democrats proclaim that the republicans are trying to get rid of Medicare and Social Securty - all a bunch of lies.
2) Medicare works as well as it does because literally everyone pays into the trust fund and yet it will still go broke in about 9 years unless taxes are raised and/or massive restrictions are put on spending. Under the proposed plans only a very small part of the population will pay for the health care of upto 40 million people. That is 180 degrees from how Medicare is funded. So any comparison to Medicare is nonsense except that it will cost more than expected and taxes will have to go up well beyond current projections.
3) We need to be honest about what health care "reform" really is. It is a new 100 billion dollar a year entitlement program. It is a transfer of wealth from the wealthy to the less wealthy working classes. (not the very poor - they are covered by Medicaid). It is an extension of Federal Authority. And it is a massive transfer of wealth from white suburbia/white penthouses to the black/hispanic inner cities - for example John Conyers mostly black district has 85,000 potential recipients of "reform" but only 500 payers for reform.

sigh, partisan talk avoiding a number of truths.

1) republicans exanded Medicare with Part D, they did nothing to curtail Medicare.
