Not being male I couldn't even begin to speak about insecurities and whether a clerical collar improves or lessens whatever insecurity it is “speaking.” I could speak to my own insecurities. However none are related to the wearing of clerical collars.

And it was Jeremiah Wright himself who said that only a Black Minister with no advanced degree in theology will put on a collar and turn it backwards like the Episcopalians, holller “Lord, Lord!” and gets 50,000 Negroes to follow him like he's the Messiah.

It wasn't snark, either – he meant it. Those who are serious about God's work don't need lavishly designed robes and ornaments to demonstrate their faith and their seriousness about their calling.
