The real tragedy occured after some of the African-American residents attempted to return to their residence. They were attacked by white residents . Who assumed that the returning African-American residents were possible looters. There were several incidents that took place after the aftermath of Katrina. The MSM seems to have failed at reporting of these racist vigilantees.
Teddy Kennedy is laid to rest today. God Rest his Irish soul. He was a champion for the least of us. Who do the people of NOLA have? I remember the horror of August 29th 2005 - Yup Bush DID say 'you're doing a heck of a job, Brownie'. The rich white guy Dubba was talking to the rich white guy Dufus. It was disgusting.

Inhofe: U.S. Headed Toward Revolution
The overreaching of the federal government is pushing the U.S. towards a revolution, Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) said today.
"People are not buying these concepts that are completely foreign to America," Inhofe said at a townhall in Chickasaw, Okla. "We're almost reaching a revolution in this country." http://briefingroom.thehill.com/2009/08/27/inho...
A United States Senator, mind you.

At one point is the President going to give up the idea of bipartisanship. Everybody has been dieing to say they are the responsible party yet when asked to step up to the plate it becomes chip and dale doing after you. Man up Mr President when shit like this goes out into the world there is no reason whatsoever to be bipartisan. GOP says healthcare reforms will cut out REPUBLICANS from healthcare. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/ar...
morphus
No. And, PBO should not stop saying it.
Bipartisanship is foreign because Amerrykuns have lost the understanding of the meaning of working for the collective good of their society. He needs to repeat it, until basic civics is understood.

'Katie Wright, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, said the question was "inartfully worded." '
"But she said people should worry because government officials would have access to personal financial and medical data."
Notice how she slipped a second zombie lie in there in the process of pretending to retract the first one?
morphus
Yes, and, she "artfully" omit, the Rethugs' Patriot Act and other follow on legislation have already given the government access to the information.

Well, the RNC has fully, openly, and shamelessly lowered themselves to the level of the loony right, and despite all the ruckus, I can't help feeling that that's not an altogether bad thing.
Stepinawfulness needs to STFU and go sit down somewhere.

For anyone trying to receive updates on New Orleans both the weather channel and the History Channel are showing new and old programs on the effects of Hurricane Katrina. It is laugh out loud funny to see the Califronia surfers whom brought their boards and jet ski's to rescue people. Their sunny attitude and the surprise on the faces of people they helped out just tells how much the Bush administration deliberating engaged in domestic terrorism.

LOL, but if I want real time updates I can just call my family. All my family except 4 (which includes me, my mom, and 2 of my sisters) all moved back to NOLA. Me, I'm still stuck in Dallas, but I will eventually go back.

President Barack Obama promised Saturday that his administration would not forget what he called a tragic response to Hurricane Katrina. He said he would visit the still-recovering New Orleans before the end of the year.
Obama has already dispatched 11 members of the Cabinet to the region to inspect progress and to hear directly local ideas on how to speed up repairs to a region destroyed by flooding four years ago this weekend.
"None of us can forget how we felt when those winds battered the shore, the floodwaters began to rise and Americans were stranded on rooftops and in stadiums," Obama said during his weekly radio and Internet address, released while he is vacationing on Martha's Vineyard off the coast of Massachusetts.
"Whole neighborhoods of a great American city were left in ruins. Communities across the Gulf Coast were forever changed. And many Americans questioned whether government could fulfill its responsibility to respond in a crisis."
I was reading somewhere that while progress was slow, Louisiana officials were much more pleased with the Obama administration than the Bush administration (including Bobby Jindal) because the Obama officials actually LISTENED to what the people were saying, while the Bush people ignored, ducked and dodged.

The brain numbing aspect about the Katrina saga is the B___ adim blockage of help for the Katrina victims.
There are thousands of stories from everyday people who watched with horror the snail pace response and then opted to take matters into their own hands.
First, the B___ admin blocked information from the weather service that would have given warning to the LA emergency service and then they blocked individuals, organizations, and countries offering help by air, water, and land.
That's the true tragedy. To say what happen after Katrina was because of incompetence covers up the TRUE events as they unfold.
Edit: And, you really don't get the impact of Bill Bennett's comment on radio about black children after Katrina until the photos are released where dead black children were hung upside down on fences to allow recovery of their bodies for families and to avoid alligators.

Today, August 29, is the 4th anniversary of landfall of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana.
I still can't believe that the United States let a city drown. DROWN.
Damn.
I understand that, in true New Orleans fashion, the anniversary of Katrina is turning into a celebration of life, renewal and remembrance. Not maudlin and morose, but uplifting and life-affirming.
Remembering Hurricane Katrina: On August 29, 2005 Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. It ravaged the Gulf Coast from central Florida to Texas. New Orleans was the most affected due to the levees breaking. Many evacuated before the storm hit landfall, however; those unable or unwilling to leave waited out the storm in their homes or in what was known as the place of last resort, the Super Dome. The water lingered for weeks because 80% of the city was flooded.
When former President George W. Bush looked back on this horrific natural disaster, at the end of his term, he spoke of how effectively the residents of New Orleans had been evacuated, however; it is certain, that the 1,836 dead would have had a different opinion, had they still been alive to tell their stories. Not only was Katrina a massive display of incompetence, it revealed the race and class divide, that has become a part of life in America to the world.
When one leads a hand to mouth existence, even though life and death may depend upon evacuation, it may simply be impossible to leave. Hurricane Katrina happened at the end of the month and those that are dependent upon governmental subsidies like welfare would have been at the end of their resources. Assuming that they had a vehicle to leave in; how were they going to pay for an extended stay in a hotel and food? Quite often, motel owners will raise their rates, when they know that a large number of people will be seeking shelter. The law of supply and demand does not take into account human lives.

Damn, I shoulda went home.
Most of my family were "refugees", and now they are all except 4 of us back home.
I lost my grandmother during Katrina. She died Sept 1 away from the city she was born and raised in.

And, unfortunately, all of them passed at a young age. But what they accomplished in their short time on this Earth is what makes Bird, Dinah and Michael legendary.
