there are many things that can be handled through the ' rainbow' approach, i.e., like healthcare. if UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE is passed, it will help all, including Black people.

BUT..
there are things that are more pronounced in the Black community and the RAINBOW approach won't do it. There are certain things that the BLACK community, which gave 95 percent of its vote to Barack Obama, should be able to expect for him to STEP UP TO THE PLATE.

1. if the face of HIV/AIDS in AMERICA is a Black woman, then WHY aren't the federal resources to combat HIV/AIDS going to those organizations that target the Black community?

2. PRISON INDUSTIAL COMPLEX
a) the continued allowance of slave labor by corporations - this could be STOPPED by the PRESIDENT.
b) disparities in drug sentencing
c)retroactivity in drug sentencing
d) denying those who have non-violent felonies on their record the possibility of getting financial aid for school, thus condemning them to lives without the possibility of using education to uplift themselves.
e)the use of BLACK MEN AS COMMODITIES FOR THE PRIVATE PRISON INDUSTRY

I would like to know what happened to the simple campaign pledge to give US citizens the same health care plan that members of Congress enjoy.

Why do we need a separate plan?

7) Yesterday Sheila Bair commented on banks(financial institutions) paying $100,000,000 to employees. these paychecks were based on the fact they are involved in risk based transactions. She questioned whether or not it is appropriate for a federally insured institution. Given this, isn't it time for Goldman Sachs and all the other large FI's t end their relationship w/ all federal guarantee's such as the commercial paper facility, the fed special lending program, et al?

1.Could you ask if healthcare is passed what will they do to ensure that Blacks are able to take advantage of resources and are presented with non distorted information. One thing I notice about the housing crisis is that banks are still foreclosing on people's homes and a lot of times it's b/c some homeowners don't know about all the resources set aside for them, therefore they are taken adavantged of. How can they prevent this samething from happening with health care reform?

2. Can anything be done to bring down the cost of college? It seems like the root of the problem with higher education is that it seems that tuition, books, and housing is ridiculously overpriced. With our economy the way it is it doesn't seem worth it to go to school and graduate with 100,000 dollars worth of debt especially in a state where unemployment and low wages is such a major problem for African Americans.

I've got so many questions to ask her and by extension President Obama!
First, tell her that in my travels around the world, the people on the streets are very proud of him and see him as a great leader, even this early in his term. So far he hasn't let them down. So far...

1) Shouldn't health care be nationalized because due to recent viruses like H1N1 and AIDS and Avian Flu, health care is as high a priority as National Security? Can we really expect Blue Cross or Kaiser to adequately treat people during a pandemic?
2) When will your administration make a serious effort to curtail crime in the black communities? Violent crime is down overall, but it could be better.
3) Your green jobs initiative has just started under Mr. Jones (I think). How many of those jobs will be set aside for lower income or urbanites? Will your administration expand green jobs further into the inner city?
4) Do you believe the "birthers" are racist and or crazy?
5) Has President Obama felt 'bogged down' by all the special interest groups big Big Coal or Big Phrama clogging up his agenda?
6) Many of America's competitors either have single payer or public option or some combo of both. China is restarting their public option system after killing it 30 years ago. A public option is one of your administration's goal. Will you veto a health care bill if it does not have a public option in it?
7) Many studies state that African Americans receive substandard care at hospitals and are even denied treatments because of their race only. How will your health care plans address these inequities?
8) What do you think about marriage in the black community? Is it a solid institution or is it in need of a goldman-sacs style federal bailout?
9) Can Obama do the "crossover"? Hey! You never know! I might play B-ball against him some day! A brotha gotta know these things!
10) Global Climate Change is a huge issue throughout the world and even to the black community (Of NYC, the Gulf Coast, those lowest lying places primarily). Many zoning laws passed decades ago placed black or poor neighborhoods in what are now flood zones. The 9th Ward and East New Orleans are prime examples of that.
11) A lot of the White House Press Corps are inadequate at their jobs. Can you swap out a bunch of them and replace with Afrospear reporters who will ask REAL questions and not stupid ones like the FOX News reporters?
12) Has living in the White Houses fundamentally changed you, the President, or Mrs. Obama?
13) Are you married? If not I know someone who needs a wife. He's a bit rude and in-your-face, but those are his redeeming qualities.
14) In your opinion, are there any other politicians or African Americans who can replace Obama after he leaves office?

I have a lot more, but that should be enough for you.

I realize that Valerie Jarrett is advisor to the President, BUT perhaps she could pass a word to Mrs. Obama to find different designers for her clothing. Her designers are doing her a great disservice.

The First lady should be dressing in more classic style clothing, simple and understated, but obviously projecting class. She can dress up a classic style outfit any number of ways.

Mrs. Obama has too much class and beauty going for her that she should not allow herself to wear some of the so-called designer outfits created for her.
Look at the outfits designers create for First Ladies of othe countries.

There is much concern that speculators have driven up the prices to the detriment of the American economy. To combat this, the administration has proposed limits on the number of contracts speculators/ refiners can control. Isn’t this backwards? Wouldn't it be wiser to raise the margins to make it more expensive to speculate?
For example if you buy stock you must put up 50% of the value of the shares. Taking IBM as an example there are approx 1.5 billion shares outstanding. In order to reach the level at which the SEC considers it prudent to be informed you must control 10% of the float. At 150,000,000 shares at $100 a piece you must put up $7.5 billion to control $15billion worth. The open interest in the sept 09 oil contract is 311,751. Each contract controls 1000 barrels. At a closing price of $70 the entire open interest is worth $21.8 billion yet you can control it for $1.8 billion dollars(311,751 X $6000, the margin requirement per contract). In effect you can control a commodity vital to the US economy for less than you can buy 10% of IBM.

What's the status on that Women's Forum that was announced a few months ago we have not heard anymore about? When will the plans be announced as to its purpose and mission?

Regarding stimulus jobs. I am very serious that AA men don't do well with "shovel ready" jobs. At least from my experience in Texas where Hispanics don't mind working in extreme heat nor extreme cold but I truly feel AA men don't. Is there any analysis underfoot that identifies jobs more suitable particularly for AA men. Is the administration developing goals for those receiving stimulus funds to ENSURE that AAs will be included in the award of jobs. That's a big concern in communities of color.

Make sure that Jarrett knows that unemployment in the AA community has to be at 60%, maybe invisible because AA have been in a depression for years. They have to direct efforts at this unemployment pandemic.

It is very important that black people be prepared for the "worst". People keep thinking Katrina can't happen again, but a flood isn't needed to wipe out a community. We see that the gov't has NOT ensured the return of the majority of the displaced citizens only those considered more "desirable" or those able to more self-sufficient. If you recall they completely razed undamaged public housing to ensure certain people would not be able to return. Here's some research:
