This is why we're called “knee jerk liberals.” We hear a blurb or see a headline and we go off half cocked before we get the whole story.

Its also why we never hold a coalition together long enough to get anything done.

The WH has asked progressive groups to back off attacking Blue Dogs. And the President keeps repeating his pledge ad nauseum. After opponents to the 'public option' effecively exposed the intention of the 'public option' was IN FACT a means by which to lead us to single payer, the President has kept repeating his pledge ad nauseum. Now, for him to do this he is 1) planning to back off the public option, 2) is a fool or 3)he is lying.

I'll take door #1. Why, easy, he wants to keep his majority ion Congress beyond 2010. To do this he must give into Blue Dogs or they will face a tsunami of opposition come the mid-term elections.

Seeing Durbin move in this direction tells me a) the Dems will 'drop the 'pulic option' or b)they will look for a new euphemism to 'rebrand' the 'public option'. My guess is they will call it a 'co-op' and see if that trial balloon floats.

I called Dubin, as well, BUT on the other side of the argument, of course. Just being 'un-American' I'm told.
