The way artists make money is from royalties and touring. Radio as we've known it has never been about the artist. It's about advertising – no more, no less. If you are really interested in supporting the arts, get behind artists receiving their fair share.

I think that the radio stations need to pay the artists and i support our blk reps in congress for trying to do the right thing as far as cathy hughes i think it is all about her bottom line she is supporting the republican that is running for governor in virginia i don't no how anyone let alone an afr. amer. can support any rep right now they are totally trying to destroy pres. obama's presidentcy right now she didn't back him while he was running for president and now she's backing a white rep and at the same time trying to destroy the cbc she's full of shit

In a letter sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Majority Whip James Clyburn and Democratic Caucus Chairman John Larson, the 22 Democratic lawmakers wrote, "At this time, Congress lacks adequate information on the overall impact that this legislation could have on local radio broadcasters and the potential disadvantages to our local communities that depend on radio to create jobs and bring residents their local news, emergency information, weather, and information on the activities of their elected governments."

House Democrats Seek To Block Performance Royalty Vote

"We are further concerned by the assertions that this bill will unfairly divert money from our local communities and direct those funds primarily to large record labels. Such an act can have a serious economic and social impact on loca radio broadcasters across the country.

The letter concludes, "Accordingly, we urge you to refrain from moving H.R. 848 to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives until such time as the impact of this legislation can be fully examined."

They all play garbage, there's just different amounts of it. Some are “all garbage all the time”, others have slowly let the garbage seep in. I fully agree about the parents. It's their responsibility, but the radio stations could do a much better job of providing variety, and raising standards. The record companies and the artists have to take some of that blame too, but it all comes back to the listeners (and consumers). If you keep listening and buying that crap, they'll keep playing and selling it.

I have no sympathy for the stations. They play hot garbage all day and contribute to today's youth being hypersexual, unable to speak or write standard English, and unwilling to experience things (music, movies, food, books, etc.) that aren't “Black”.

My understanding is that artists once sent “demonstration” CD/media of their music for introduction. Since artist now have other venues to introduce their music, is the argument about the Conyers legislation related to radio stations using artist music introduced in other venues?.

These days artists don't necessarily need the radio to introduce their music because we have a lot of social networking sites and things like iTunes to help us out. I know I found out about “Van Hunt” not from the radio, but from looking at the albums John Legend had down as some of his faves on iTunes, I think that's the same way I found out about Lina (I absolutely LOVE her “Morning Star” Album). Not to mention word of mouth. I found out about Chrisette Michele from a band forum. I bought it and loved it, then I passed it on to my friends and so on. So when her next album came out I knew a WHOLE bunch of people who were getting it the day it came out and she barely got played on the radio before “Epiphany”

And you still have things like Pandora where you can select an artist and listen to music “like” theirs which is also a good way to hear about new artists, and Pandora pays to play the music it plays.
