I hear that Angelar..But Olbermann's coverage of MJ has HORRIFIC @ best. I have not watched him since!
And I love Olbermannn

Dr. Chopra was on Olbermann's show the day after Michael died and explained to that big headed man that Michael had lupus and mental problems from child abuse. Do you think he took the information to heart and change his language...no! But this is the man who taunted Bill-O everyday for a several years, how sick is that? Once the MJ segment comes on I turn him off.
My Mom always warned me not to question God but-why, God why? Why are useless sacks of flesh like Flush, Michael Weiner Savage, Cheney and Coultergeist still allowed to breathe?

Sanford backs out of promise to release records
16 mins ago COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has backed out of a promise to release personal financial records proving he did not use state money for trips to see his mistress.
A day after Sanford declared in an emotional Associated Press interview that his mistress is his soul mate, spokesman Joel Sawyer says the governor does not want to discuss personal matters in the media anymore. The state is investigating Sanford's travel to see the Argentine woman the governor identified as his lover.
Sanford agreed this week to provide the AP with proof of his payment for trips to New York and Argentina to see her.
His staff first said the records might be made available Tuesday, and then the governor's spokesman said Wednesday Sanford would not release them.
I think it was McClachey who reported he had used state funds, which is why Sanford was going to prove otherwise.
I'm being to feel like I picked up a copy of Gossip World - or whatever those stupids magazines are called at the check-out stand - and it's playing in real-time.
Police are investigating R. Kelly and gathering evidence regarding another underaged girl per a user on Twitter. Little did I know that when I wrote this post.
Today's Conversation Michael Jackson, Lil Wayne, R. Kelly & Roman Polanski: Media Coverage Versus Perception
A report that R&B star R. Kelly is under investigation for a sexual relationship with an underage girl is false, according to police.
Citing an anonymous source "close to R Kelly," Media Take Out reported Wednesday that police raided the singer's home in suburban Olympia Fields in connection with an alleged relationship between Kelly and a 17-year-old girl. The report also claimed that "Olympia Fields Police are still tenaciously pursuing the case."
An Olympia Fields Police Department spokesperson, however, denied Media Take Out's report to the Huffington Post.
"No, none of it is true," she said. The site's claim that Olympia Fields Police had confirmed the report was also false, she said.
A spokesman for Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said their office had no knowledge of any investigation.
Media Take Out has since updated their story, now allowing that "R Kelly may be investigated by the Illinois police for committing statutory rape" (emphasis added).
Kelly was found not guilty of child pornography charges in 2008.
I'm not citing MTO as a source, that link goes to the Huffington Post.

Hell, if that video didn't convince a jury they were looking at a 14 yr old, I really dont know what evidence they can be gathering that will produce a different outcome.

R. Kelly could come on stage at the EBT awards, snatch up one of the little girls gyrating around Drake and Lil Wayne, pee on her for the entire world to see and many people would be like "Well the girl liked it" or "How do we know she's really 12?"

ATLANTA — The wife of R&B singer Usher was surprised when the entertainer filed for divorce earlier this month and claims the two were intimate less than a week before he moved to end the marriage, according to court documents.
Tameka Raymond, 38, disputes Usher's claims the couple have been separated since July 2008. She said in court documents filed Monday in Fulton County Superior Court that she "had every reason to believe her marriage was intact" and that two were "intimately together as husband and wife as recently as June 6."
Usher, whose real name is Usher Raymond IV, filed for divorce June 12, claiming there is "no reasonable hope of reconciliation" and the marriage is "irretrievably broken." He is seeking joint custody of the couple's two sons, 1 1/2-year-old Usher Raymond V and 6-month-old Naviyd Ely Raymond.
Tameka Raymond has three children from a previous marriage. She said through her divorce attorney, Randy Kessler, that she has been a faithful wife and loving mother during the marriage.
In Monday's filing, Tameka Raymond asked a judge to ensure that Usher continues to support his family while the divorce works its way through the courts, including paying her legal fees.
The couple married in August 2007 in a lavish ceremony. About 200 people attended their wedding at resort built in the style of a 16th-century-style French chateau on 3,500 hilly acres outside Atlanta.
A call to Usher's divorce lawyer was not immediately returned Tuesday.
Before the two married, Usher had a string of romances, most notably his three-year relationship with Chilli from the group TLC.
The Grammy-winning artist's hits include "Confessions," "Burn," "You Make Me Wanna" and "Yeah!"
He needs to be the 'Bama of the week. She is gonna take his ass to the cleaners, I can see it already.

Single black women choosing to adopt.
She broke off relationships with men who didn't want to settle down. She refused to get pregnant out of wedlock. She prayed for a child.
Duren's yearning for motherhood was so palpable that her former fiancé once offered to father a child with her. But he warned her that he wasn't ready for marriage.
"I get bored in relationships after a couple of years," he told her, she recalls.
Those events could have caused some women to give up their dreams of motherhood. But Duren, a pharmaceutical saleswoman, didn't need a man to be a mom. At 37 years old, she decided to adopt.
"It's the best decision I could have made in my life," Duren says, two years later. She's now the mother of Madison, a 1-year-old daughter she raises in Canton, Ohio.
"People say I have never seen you so happy," she says, "but it's also the hardest thing I've ever done."
What's driving more single African-American women to adopt
Marriage and motherhood -- it's the dream that begins in childhood for many women. Yet more African-American women are deciding to adopt instead of waiting for a husband, says Mardie Caldwell, founder of Lifetime Adoption, an adoption referral and support group in Penn Valley, California. http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/07/01/bia.single...
Mothsmoke
I didn't find this piece to be very informative. Maybe my reading of these types of pieces is becoming more critical, but frankly I expected more. It's basically a "Black Women Wait Too Long for a Black Man Whose Not Coming" piece. Where are the numbers to support this "increase." Why didn't it delve more into the "health issues" that cause infertility in black women. My mother's BFF works for the CDC and according to their research a substantial number of black women face these issues because they've been exposed to STDs. Guess who they are getting these STDs from? Black men.
Several unsubstantiated statements also give me pause. Black women are being criticized for being single and adopting a child? Really? The community isn't sophisticated enough to make a distinction between a woman with financial resources, a career, and a support system who adopts and the young mother who has a child(ren) out of wedlock and barely make ends meet. Whatev.
And let's not get started with the some black women are not "emotionally" equipped to adopt a black child that is "too dark" quip. IMO, these women aren't fit to adopt ANY child. I'd be interested to know what the adoption agencies response was when the prospective parent requests a "snicker bar" kiddie. If they are making statemets like this, I think we have an inkling as to why they're still single. For so many years the Black Social Workers of America opposed white couples adopting black children based on cultural factors. Little did they know that it was the sistas who wanted the light brite, bi-racial, snicker bar kiddies. Ugh!!
This isn't a piece about the growing trend of adoption among black women, it's a hit piece on black women.
There's a professional woman at my church like that, the little girl she adopted as an infant is now going to I think the 1st grade and is just as cute/sweet as she can be. While I want the experience of giving birth, if I'm not married by the time I have myself together enough to have a child, I'd seriously consider adoption.
Baracktopia
Read the article, and first thing to note is that it's part of CNN's lamentable "Black in America" series, which I thought was such a disservice.
This article notes that Blacks don't want to adopt kids that are "too dark," and we think MJ had issues?
I've said repeatedly, and I'll say it again - Black women, don't limit yourself to Black men. The world is full of people from all ethnicities, you'll increase your chances of finding a mate if you consider the full spectrum.
Miranda
I read the article and those comments about the "too dark" children were so sad. Sounds like people who will mentally abuse the child anyway to me.
Shazza
That thing about "Black in America'- I read such disdain for that series, I didn't bother to watch it and now Part 2 comes on this month. And Soledad O'Brien is getting an award from McDonald's this Friday recognizing her for her contributions.

Wow!
So they're gonna give her a Happy Meal!

LOL!! Tom Joyner said it was going to be some kind of 365/Black Award. The fries would be more fitting.
I love chocolate babies, i think they are just the cutest little things. So I don't know what CNN is talking about, but then again neither do they. I'm definitely not limiting my options to Black men because to be truthful, there really aren't that many good ones out there my age from what I've seen.
AxelFoley
There's plenty of good brothas out there (I'm one of them). Not saying you can't date any other ethnicity, but don't fall for that meme about there not being many good black men available.

Calif. Democrat Henry Waxman hospitalized 2009 The Associated Press July 1, 2009, 9:41AM
WASHINGTON — A powerful House committee chairman with a central role in President Barack Obama's global warming and health care legislation has been hospitalized.
Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., was not feeling well Tuesday and was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for "routine testing," spokeswoman Karen Lightfoot said Wednesday.
She said that Waxman, 69, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, is "feeling much better now." She said his office had no further details to release.
Waxman just finished steering the climate change legislation through a close House vote and has been gearing up to tackle health care later this summer.
Despite all my dislike of his politics (Cali taxes, Cali regulation for all), I hope he's OK.

McKinney aboard boat seized in Gaza
Israel consulate: blockade run “reckless publicity stunt”
By KENT A. MILES
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Tuesday, June 30, 2009
Israeli naval forces blockading Gaza have intercepted a ship whose passengers include former Georgia congresswoman Cynthia McKinney.
Israeli forces on Tuesday intercepted the Greek-registered Arion in the Mediterranean Sea 23 miles off the Gaza coast, the BBC reported.
The Arion was carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, according to the U.S.-based Free Gaza Movement.
The organization had named the ship the Spirit of Humanity and referred to it by that name on its web site.
It is the second encounter between Israeli forces and McKinney, who was aboard a ship that collided with an Israeli naval vessel while attempting to cross into Gaza last December.
In a press release issued by freegaza.org, McKinney called the boarding “an outrageous violation of international law against us.”
Israel’s consulate general accused McKinney of a “reckless political stunt.”
“Once again former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney and her fellow travelers have taken it upon themselves to disregard their own safety, as well as the safety of the vessel’s crew, by leading a boat into restricted waters,” the consulate general’s office in Atlanta said in a statement.
Gaza has been under Israeli blockade since 2007, when the socio-political organization, Hamas, gained control of the government.
The ship was rerouted to the Israeli port of Ashdod, and its cargo delivered to Gaza by road after a security inspection.
The passengers and crew are in Israel and will be flown to their home countries in about a day, the consulate general’s office said.
McKinney was the 2008 Green Party candidate for president. She served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 to 2003 and from 2005-07.
Except the boat was not in Israeli water space. They have no right to take people hostage. When they tried to take medicine last year they were in International water and the Israeli navy rammed the boat. Somebody has to stand up for what's right. Political disputes are one thing, starving people out and hitting them with white phosphorus is wrong.
Yeah, but if Israel feels they were in their waters, they're gonna react.
Though my point's larger than just Israel. Let's see what happens when McKinney tries to take supplies to Iran and goes through the Strait of Hormuz to make her point. Trust me, she might end up with an Exocet missile as a gift from the ayatollahs.
Truth be told, one day Israel might wake up sick of these stunts and decide to react stronger then they have been.
There seems to be a trend with Keith Olbermann. Whenever Joe Scarborough bitch slaps him around, he attempts to detract from that by "taking on" the President. Punk MoFo!

When KO starts calling out Congress -- you know, the folks who make the legislation -- as well as his co-worker Pat BuKlannan for his ignorance, then maybe I'll take his rant seriously. Until, then this is nothing more than him trying to get attention.

the left's steadfast refusal to call out the folks whose job it actually is to legislate continues to amuse me. when you ask why none of the left's favorite congress people has put forth legislation to end DADT, all you get is "it doesn't matter, this is about the president." umm it does matter because that is exactly their JOB, to legislate. congress loves to complain and retaliate when they feel that the president is handing them legislation to rubber stamp, and not respecting their role as legislators; so get on congress' ass about doing their jobs. but of course you won't hear that from keith, rachel or any of the left's other sacred cows, because if they did call them out they'd very quickly find themselves cut off from their typical guest roster. it's much easier to pretend that you're doing something by ranting about the president not acting as a legislator, while having your favorite lefty congress people on to commiserate about how nobody is doing their job for them and legislating. if people really cared about doing something to advance gay rights beyond talking about it, they'd be calling out congress daily on whatever platform they have; keith and rachel should be asking every single senator or congress person who appears on their shows, why they haven't personally sponsored legislation to address the issue they love to talk about supporting? not too long ago sen. gillibrand was heaped with praise from the left for posting on huffpost etc. about her support for dan choi, that's great but so far i have yet to hear about her putting her name on a single piece of legislation regarding DADT. why? because she doesn't have to, she already got the kudos she was looking for from the left.
and don't tell me it's because obama calls himself "a fierce advocate" of the gay community; so does just about every democrat and so did bill clinton, yet somehow obama being "slow" on gay issues is so much more damnable than clinton, who actually gave you DADT & DOMA. oh i forgot, clinton is still a gay rights hero because he apparently had lots of gay friends and was "comfortable" talking to the gay community; see "he tried," but congress didn't support him. that obama however, we're just not sure about how he personally feels about gays (don't you know, all blacks are secretly homophobic, plus he's churchy), so congress no longer matters and it's all about him actively proving he's not suspect. congress legislates; the contortions involved in trying to justify ignoring them in favor of challenging the president's personal commitment to gays, are tiresome. get congress to put the legislation on his desk, and he'll sign it; that's his job.
malletgirl02
That was very good, I agree with what you said. As I said above I think there is widespread ignorance about how our government works. Also in regards to the lefts complaining about the president not acting as legislator. Isn't that a good thing? It means that Obama isn't over reaching. We don't have a parliamentary government so the president isn't part of the legislature.
I checked "obama, DOMA" but didn't find anything; I know if there is something out there someone will find it.

Sources tell TMZ an extremely dangerous and potent drug used for surgical anesthesia was found at Michael Jackson's house after he died ... and this may well be the drug that killed him.
We're told the drug Propofol was discovered at the residence. The drug is used to put people under anesthesia before surgery. It is an extremely powerful drug that is only available to medical personnel. As one source said, "There is no conceivable way this drug can be properly prescribed for home use."
The drug can only be administered with an IV. Interestingly, Propofol burns and the drug Lidocaine is used to reduce the pain associated with the Propofol injection. As we first reported, Lidocaine was found near Jackson's body.
One of the major side-effects of Propofol is cardiac arrest if it's taken in combination with narcotic painkillers, however, Propofol is so powerful it can stop someone's heart on its own.
A registered nurse has come out and said Jackson begged her for the drug Diprivan -- the brand name for Propofol. She says he needed it for insomnia but she declined to supply it.
Sources say the drug is so inappropriate and reckless for home use, if a doctor facilitated it for Jackson and it caused his death, he or she could be prosecuted for manslaughter.
How about the doctor didn't call 911 for 30 damn minutes! What the hell! He claims it's because Mike didn't have a house phone in his room, and he didn't know the address of the place. First of all, if you are LIVING somewhere, how the hell do you NOT know the address? I'm assuming he had his important mail forwarded or at least mailed to him by someone he knows/trusts. Something isn't right about this situation with the doctor. Is he actually LICENSED?

Michael Scheuer on Fox: America's only hope is for another terrorist attack By David Neiwert Wednesday Jul 01, 2009 6:45am
Good God. They really are wishing and hoping for a terrorist attack.
Michael Scheuer, on Glenn Beck's show last night:
Scheuer: The only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States. Because it's going to take a grass-roots, bottom-up pressure. Because these politicians prize their office, prize the praise of the media and the Europeans. It's an absurd situation again. Only Osama can execute an attack which will force Americans to demand that their government protect them effectively, consistently, and with as much violence as necessary.
Beck: Which is why, I was thinking this weekend, if I were him, that would be the last thing I would do right now.
I guess the wingnuts have given up the pretense of decency and normalcy. Now they're rooting for another terrorist attack, so that we stoopid Americans will finally WAKE UP! to the nature of the evil that conspires against us ...
Actually, we're becoming quite awake indeed. And it isn't bin Laden who scares us right now. More like Glenn Beck and his guests.
Don't get it twisted. 99.9% of conservatives are not rooting against America, and only a few nuts are. This guy is rhetorically equivalent to Rev. Dr. Wright on these matters.
How about this quote: "Whether the American system is beyond redemption we will have to wait and see. But we can be certain that black patience has run out, and unless white America responds positively to the theory and activity of Black Power, then a bloody, protracted civil war is inevitable." James Hal Cone
Is that wingnutty?
karlewis
Cheney and his minyans want an attack. Don't get it twisted the ones who claim they love the country the most are often times the most danagerous. Especially when they say they want to teach us naive liberals a lesson.
I don't know of anyone-conservative or otherwise-that wants to see American attacked again.
Scheuer might be on to something logically-that it take a serious event on the order of a 9/11 to bring the country together-but I'd rather keep arguing with the other side of the aisle than pay that price again.
moja31
oh please!his crazy ass is not talking about "bringing the country together;" he thinks it'll make people favor more war and confrontation with the middle east; he thinks that it's necessary for us to be killing muslims in order for him to feel "protected." a terrorist attack is a means to an end for him; that end being getting people invested in the idea of an extended war on extremism. and conservative hero glenn beck gives this garbage a platform and nods along in agreement. but hey, what is it that's always said about folks like him and limbaugh; they offer a strong voice to "conservative principles," and are "valued voices in the conservative movement." these idiots spew dangerous garbage, but as usual IOKIYAR!
twg
I hope and pray that we can just sort out our own drama without innocent folks getting killed, here or anywhere in the world.

Eat Raw Fish ... Get a 9-Foot Tapeworm Chicago Man Joins International Ranks of Those Who've Been Infested From Eating Raw Fish in Recent Years
One summer day in August 2006, Anthony Franz went to a Chicago area hospital carrying a 9-foot worm.
He did not find it in his garden.
Franz is one of the few, but growing number of tapeworm victims in cities across the world who are discovering (or rediscovering) that some of the most popular fish can host parasites.
Although still rare, a study this June showed salmon tapeworm infestations tripled from an average of 0.32 cases per 100,000 people each year in Kyoto, Japan, to at least to 1 case in 100,000 people in 2008. As more people adopt sushi and undercooked fish diets around the world so too, has the worm spread.
The article, printed in Emerging Infectious Diseases, tracked the movement of tapeworm infection for 20 years as reports migrated from rural fishing villages in Japan to urban centers around the world, including France, Switzerland and the United States.
Umm, yeah, the only thing I eat raw is vegetables, other than that it must be cooked, I don't want to see ANY red.

Michael Jackson Breaks Billboard Charts Records
As predicted, Michael Jackson is once again the King of the Pop charts.
Based on preliminary sales numbers from Nielsen SoundScan, the entire top nine positions on Billboard's Top Pop Catalog Albums chart will house Jackson-related titles when the tally is released in the early morning on Wednesday (July 1). Nielsen SoundScan's sales tracking week ended at the close of business on Sunday (June 28) night. Jackson himself has a record eight out of the top 10, while a Jackson 5 compilation also finds its way into the upper tier. The King of Pop's "Number Ones" will fittingly lead the pack at No. 1 with 108,000 (an increase of 2,340%) while "The Essential Michael Jackson" and "Thriller" are in the Nos. 2 and 3 slots with 102,000 and 101,000, respectively. Last week "Number Ones" was the only Jackson title on the chart, at No. 20 with 4,000 copies; both "Essential" and "Thriller" re-enter the tally this week. Additionally, his classic 1979 studio set "Off the Wall" re-enters at No. 4 with 33,000 while his 1987 album "Bad" returns at No. 6 with 17,000. At No. 5, the Jackson 5's "The Ultimate Collection" debuts with 18,000. Jackson's fourth studio album for Epic Records, 1991's "Dangerous," re-enters at No. 7 with 14,000 while his 2001 compilation "Greatest Hits: HIStory -- Volume 1" also comes back to the list at No. 8 with 12,000. Finally, Jackson's 2004 box set "The Ultimate Collection" charts its first week on the Pop Catalog chart, arriving at No. 9 with 11,000.
The lone non-Jackson-related set in the top 10 is a reissue of the "Woodstock" movie soundtrack, which bows at No. 10 with 8,000.
Collectively, Jackson's solo albums sold 415,000 this past week. That's extraordinary, since his titles sold a combined 10,000 in the week that ended June 21. Of the 415,000 total, 58% were digital downloads.
Additionally, the 415,000 albums sold just last week is nearly 40% more than what Jackson's catalog had sold the the entire year up through June 21 (297,000).
<snip>
Jackson's total volume of downloads this week -- including his tracks with the Jackson 5 and the Jacksons -- account for 2.6 million downloads, a remarkable number considering last week's cumulative sum was 48,000. Moreover, Jackson becomes the first act to sell more than 1 million song downloads in a week. http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/michael-jac...

DAYUM.
I guess they regulated his sales to the Top Pop Catalog chart so the other artists won't feel so bad.
moja31
he makes a showing on pretty much every chart they have, but the piece says that a lot of the major sales went to various compilation albums like "number ones" and "essential," which apparently aren't eligible for the main billboard 200 chart, but rather the "all-encompassing Top Comprehensive Albums list."
Sepia
It says: "Catalog albums are ineligible to appear on the Billboard 200 albums chart, though they can chart on the all-encompassing Top Comprehensive Albums list. "
I wish they would've stated why this is the case. My opinion is that they're scared that the older albums would outsell the newer stuff, thus showing how untalented the majority of the "hit artists" are. It's straight up manipulation by the corporate entities.
But we still know that MJ made hoppin' john out of the Black Eyed Peas.
Miranda
LOL.....we know the truth of the matter. Its a damn shame that even though it was expected that obviously the sales for MJ stuff would be astronomical...its a damn shame that he's the first artist to get a million downloads in a week. Think about all the supposedly "anticipated" new releases over the past 5 years...and none of these mofos got a million people collectively to download their song?? Nobody?? Back in the day I would have to get driven TO a record store (remember those? ) or else I would have to have my boombox with the cassette in, with pause pushed down, hoping and praying the song that I requested 3 hours earlier would come on the dang radio so I could record it! Now all the kiddies do is click and BAM!

Speaking of taping songs from the radio....I don't remember anyone complaining about that cutting into record sales or infringing on copyrights and what not. Maybe that's because despite folks taping from the radio, we still eventually purchased the albums/records because they were actually GOOD. Nowadays, you're lucky if you like 2 songs on an entire cd.
Miranda
See.....how many hits on Off the Wall, Thriller?? Hits through and through....artists today....and I use the term "artist" loosely, are just mere marketing props...its ALL Disney.

He can SANG and he is fine, fine eye candy. For a performer, that's an unbeatable combination for me!

No More Race Talk For Morgan Freeman: When asked his solution to racism the star claimed we should just stop talking about it. Yeah I think that it is naive and damaging.
twg
Damaging to whom? He's only naive if you want to continue to classify/sort/qualify/identify/judge people by race. This is where the "black bourgeoisie" are losing the moral authority to preach to America.
Like a few posters have said, we've elected a black president, and forgiveably-racist-white Liberals control the levers of government, the excuse list is dwindling.
Miranda
"He's only naive if you want to continue to classify/sort/qualify/identify/judge people by race."
Are you serious? LMAO!!!!!!! For real?? Yeah...that's it....tomorrow I won't identify myself as Black anymore and I'll go to a realtor in Forsyth County to ask about a home and see how that works out for me.
twg
School me a bit on Forsyth county.
I'm not about to stand up for racism, disparities in lending or WHATEVER. I have no tolerance for this in my personal or professional life. What's right is right no matter your color, that's what I'm arguing about. I can never understand completely the issues a person of color has faced. I also see that the sarcasm, vitriol, and yes hate, are directed at non-liberal folks.......liberally.
Plantsmantx
You're kidding, right? I doubt that many, if any commenters here hate anyone. However, when it comes to sarcasm, and even vitriol, yes...you're damn right. This is what I don't understand (I do understand, actually)...you can go to white conservative and liberal blogs and see sarcasm and vitriol dispensed against the other side. Hell, that's the nature of the beast. Yet, you come to this nominally "liberal" black blog and act as if we're not supposed to ever be sarcastic and vitrolic. Why is that?
twg
Yet, you come to this nominally "liberal" black blog and act as if we're not supposed to ever be sarcastic and vitrolic. Why is that?
Good question. During the election the rhetoric really exposed something to me that was disconcerting on many levels. Liberal commentators and politicos were and are literally implying overt racism just because of conservative political principles. I don't live in a vacuum when it comes to political news and events. I read somewhat widely, watch a balanced amount of news (fox, cnn, pbs mostly), and listen to satellite radio a bunch on my long commute. Mostly Bloomberg in the morning, then a mix in the afternoon. Also some local AM radio shows when baseball is not on.
Listening to liberal talk radio, watching TV, reading blogs and news, and ultimately listening to my local legislators made me realize a few things.
1)Conservatives had ignored the medium of the internet and nothing will really make up that difference but getting involved, and time. 2) Liberals almost universally characterize conservatives as racists and bigots for political advantage. Some deserve the label too. 3)The folks here are fun to read, and thought provoking to engage.
I'm not a hater, and I do think that we are at a crossroads on many issues in this country. Now that the mainstream liberal media is beating the racism drum, mainly just for political advantage IMHO, we as conservatives have to engage. I'm not that good in rhetoric and debate, but I know I'm not allowing myself to be pigeonholed just as liberals want without a fight.
Plantsmantx
What "liberal media", and what "racism drum"? If they're beating it, they're damn sure not doing it in our favor. No, conservatives almost universally tell black people who have the nerve not to pretend that anti-black racism doesn't still exist, and exists to enough of an extent to be a problem, that they are racists and bigots...and they do that for political advantage. If you don't want to be pigeonholed, stop spouting bullshit conservative boilerplate that is designed to try to shame or browbeat black people into shutting up about anti-black racism....and stop pigeonholing other people. My challenge still stands- I have a commenting history here- you have access to it. Give us documented proof of my poiltics being as you characterized them.
Plantsmantx
Do you think blacks should disband as a people?
Yeah- Oscar Grant is in the hereafter, still "making excuses", I'm sure.
...and that bullshit about "we've elected a black President" is just an extreme extrapolation of the Unapologetic Mexican's "Appeal to Melanin" "Wite Magik Attak":
A Wite-Magik Attak that tweaks the Appeal to Authority until it glows bronze. This is an attack wherein a non-brown person attempts to negate the argument/complaint/insight of a brown person by claiming the non-brown opinion is
a) Backed up by a black or brown or chinese or filipino or puerto rican etc friend who feels the same way, or that
b) Their word is free of any racist taint simply because they have, for example, paid for the lunch of a mexican ten times, or maybe put a black person through school, or are even sleeping with or married to a brown person. But as any person familiar with these dynamics knows, a White Supremacist viewpoint can exist in any of us. Even those of us with friends as dark as night. Melanin may make skin prettier and stronger, but it is not a guard against the programming that American culture carries.
twg
1) You can't disband as a people. Can white people disband? Anything a white person may say in this ideological trap is construed as overt racism. 2) You have a honed rhetoric, but it still only amounts to whining. Further, a) and b) are just pretexts justifying your own racism. "You can never know because you're not brown". Logic is logic, and you can reject mine just as I reject that shyt. The times have changed, but there are still problems. What is your goal for black Americans?
Plantsmantx
What is your goal for black Americans?
Full (or as near to full as possible) success and prosperity...as a people. Without having to pretend that we're not a people. The former is possible to achieve without having to lower ourselves to the latter. The main thrust of the rhetoric of people like you, both black and white, is aimed at trying to convince us that the former can't be achieved without the latter, I wonder why?
When you talk about not identifying as black, you're talking about blacks disbanding a people. When you talk about "Obama was elected President, so...", you're talking about us...and only us...not you...pretending that because Obama was elected, racism no longer exists. And that's the thing...a lot of your rhetoric is basically saying "blacks should sit down, shut up, and stop talking about racism". It's not going to happen.
"Logic is logic, and you can reject mine just as I reject that shyt."
Because most blacks reject your logic means that your rejection of mine doesn't really mean shit, LOL. Right now, and for the forseeable future, the black component of the choir you're preaching too will remain quite small...thankfully. And when you get right down to it, that's where the rubber meets the road, isn't it? Ultimately, political success for people like you, as those politics relate to racial matters, is defined by the number of black people you can convince to dedicate themselves to the maintenance of white hegemony. You have your work cut out for you:).
twg
all your rhetoric is basically saying "blacks should sit down, shut up, and stop talking about racism". It's not going to happen.
Wrong. What I'm saying is EVERYONE should be held to a higher standard regarding racism.
Plantsmantx
...which involves black people accepting your false equivalencies. Yes, I understand.
twg
The main thrust of the rhetoric of people like you, both black and white, is aimed at trying to convince us that the former can't be achieved without the latter, I wonder why?
Implying that I'm racist because I don't agree with your political point of view is sexy among this crowd, you are right. That still doesn't make it true, and if true progress is made on the matters it won't continue to happen. Until then, I see more people like myself rejecting racism (yes indeed),and calling out your politically opportunistic ideology for what it is. Lumping some black folks in with me, because they don't agree with you, is a nice touch too.
Plantsmantx
Why wouldn't I lump in some black folks with you? As you said, they argee with you. Should I "lump them in" with me, even though they don't agree with me? Why? Because they're black?
..."your politically opportunistic ideology for what it is."
Which politically opportunistic ideology would that be?
twg
You're classifying the conservative folks of color the same same you classified me....if I had a wife of color. It's quite convenient to say, and very bigoted still.
The liberal nanny-state ideology, with a little retribution in mind when its possible. That one.
Plantsmantx
No, I'm saying you're racist because you obviously want to to try convince us that the only way to make anti-black racism go away is for black people to stop talking about it.
Plantsmantx
"You're classifying the conservative folks of color the same same you classified me"
Why wouldn't I classify "the conservative folks of color" the same way I classify you? You're all conservatives, right? You come here and talk about "not classifying on race", then you call me a "bigot" for grouping black conservatives with you...because you're all conservatives. Think this shit through before you try to use it as a rhetorical club.
"The liberal nanny-state ideology, with a little retribution in mind when its possible. That one."
...and you know that's my ideology...how? I'm far from the most frequent commenter here, but I do have a pretty long comment trail. Document. I mean it...document.
Plantsmantx
I'll add to that...a White Supremacist viewpoint can exist in any of us. Even those of us who ARE as dark as night.
Shazza
I remember when he was doing pub for 'The Bucket List', he was on Tom Joyner's show and Tom asked him about black achievement. You could hear his tone change instantly, he didn't want to focus on 'black' anything! Didn't he also say he saw no point in Black History Month?

By Ruth Marcus Jenny Sanford, Role Model By Ruth Marcus Wednesday, July 1, 2009 Finally, a new model for the wronged political spouse
It's about time.
South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford's let-it-all-hang-out news conference was a different approach, too. But a better one? Pick your poison: staged declaration of politically requisite contrition, or meandering mooning of a love-struck adolescent inhabiting the body of a supposedly grown-up politician. The stomach churns at both -- and from the spousal perspective, I suppose I'd rather have my straying husband (I mean, my theoretically straying husband) driven by a different piece of his anatomy than his heart. But Jenny Sanford presents a new and improved version of the betrayed political spouse -- neither enabler nor victim.
We're all too familiar with the usual drill, in all its excruciating permutations. In one, the wronged wife stands, looking stricken, by the side of the cheating pol as cameras whir. See Silda Wall and Eliot Spitzer, Suzanne and Larry Craig. In another, the wife is not on display but issues a supportive, if unnervingly euphemistic, press release. See Darlene Ensign: "Since we found out last year we have worked through the situation" and "our marriage has become stronger." Since we found out? Seems to me that one of us knew earlier about that, um, situation.
And space does not permit me to plumb the depths of spouse-enabling, self-deception and ambition embedded in the examples of Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Edwards, except to say that the latest about John Edwards makes Bill Clinton look like the perfect gentleman. A former Edwards aide, Andrew Young, is reported to be writing a book describing how the one-time presidential candidate beseeched him to falsely claim paternity of Rielle Hunter's child and how Young found a videotape showing Edwards, as the New York Daily News so delicately put it, "taking positions that weren't on his official platform."
I have to confess to, and apologize for, having preconceived notions about Jenny Sanford that turned out to have nothing to do with who she actually is. I heard "wife of conservative Christian governor," saw the picture of her with those four well-groomed boys and figured her for someone who wouldn't have the spine to stick up for herself.
Citi raises card rates on millions By Francesco Guerrera and Saskia Scholtes in New York and Tom Braithwaite in Washington June 30 2009 23:59
Citigroup has sharply increased interest rates on up to 15m US credit card accounts just months before curbs on such rises come into effect, in a move that could fuel political anger at the treatment of consumers by bailed-out banks. People close to the situation said that Citi, which is about to cede a 34 per cent stake to the US government as part of its latest rescue, had upped rates on between 13m and 15m credit cards it co-brands with retailers such as Sears. Citi’s rate increases emerged on the day the government proposed legislation to create a new regulator with sweeping powers on consumer protection and a week after the bank was attacked by some politicians for raising employees’ salaries.
Holders of co-branded cards who failed to pay their balance in full at the end of the month saw their rates rise by an average 24 per cent – or nearly 3 percentage points – between January and April, according to a Credit Suisse analysis of data from the consultancy Lightspeed Research.
After FT.com broke news of the hike, Citi issued a statement saying: ”We have adjusted pricing and card terms for some customers as part of our regular account reviews. This is an ongoing process to ensure we offer terms, interest rates, credit lines and products based on individual needs and risk profiles. These changes also reflect the dramatically higher cost of doing business in our industry as we work to preserve the broad availability of credit.”
Citi’s move came as the economic downturn caused record defaults among US card users and prompted many issuers to raise rates, both to cushion their losses and pre-empt the new restrictions set to come into effect in February.
Still, Always, 'Do the Right Thing' Spike Lee's classic is as relevant as ever on its 20th anniversary By Jen Chaney Washington Post Staff Writer Tuesday, June 30, 2009; 12:00 AM
"Do the Right Thing" -- the Spike Lee joint that kickstarted some tough conversations about racism and prompted boomboxes across the country to blast "Fight the Power" -- celebrates its 20th anniversary today with a new DVD ($29.98) and Blu-ray ($39.98) release, both of which feature digitally remastered versions of the film, perfectly polished for the new millennium. The question is: does this day-in-the-life-of-Bed-Stuy saga still hold up in the (allegedly) enlightened era of Barack Obama?
The answer is a resounding yes. "Do the Right Thing" remains, arguably, the most honest, funny and brave film about racism in the history of American cinema. True, certain details -- notably the hi-top fade haircuts, the Air Jordans and the references to controversial incidents like the Tawana Brawley rape case -- place the movie precisely in the late '80s. But the confidence of Lee's direction and the issues he confronts remain as relevant as ever. Two decades later -- as coverage from The Root demonstrates -- we still debate the reasons why Mookie (played by Lee) throws that trash can through the front window of Sal's Famous Pizzeria, inciting a riot and stoking the flames of an already simmering, summertime rage in one Brooklyn community.
This special edition of "Do the Right Thing" comes with some brand new extras, most notably the retrospective, "Do the Right Thing: 20 Years Later," directed by Lee and featuring the filmmaker in conversation with members of the cast (including Rosie Perez and John Turturro) and other key contributors (director of photography Ernest Dickerson and Public Enemy's Chuck D, co-writer of the anthem "Fight the Power") to the film. Also freshly created for this edition: a new commentary from Lee and 11 interesting, if not terribly enlightening, deleted and extended scenes, including a longer take of the final, rancorous exchange between Mookie and Sal (Danny Aiello).

[quote]Xerox has named Ursula Burns as its new chief executive officer, making her the first African American woman to run a Fortune 500 company. Burns will take over on July 1, 2009, replacing Anne Mulcahy. The 50-year-old new boss worked her way up the corporate ladder from a summer internship in 1980 to the CEO position. Hey D,the other day I posted and article on your candidate saying that he wants to have the same economic policies of george bush. Please tell me he had one to many Jim Beams that night.
HuffPo at Boys State....damn, is nothing sacred anymore?
Here's what I think (which means it's not necessarily the campaign's opinion):
McDonnell's right....to a point. The Bush tax cuts did stimulate a period of economic growth. So, on its face, that's not a bad thing to pursue...
...but then you throw in two wars, a suspect financial/housing market, and the fact that we couldn't necessarily afford those cuts in the first place, and the picture clouds a lot.
So, for me, if we can provide those same incentives to the businesses that actually create jobs without going deeper into debt to provide them, I don't have a problem with that.
This whole trying to make McDonnell into Bush theme is stupid, and at the end of the day, it's not gonna work. A writer at National Review said it best: if this theme keeps up, McDonnell's going to have to promise not to re-invade Iraq just to make the distinction clear.
Town
Then McDonnell needs to stop comparing himself to Bush and he better hope Deeds doesn't start comparing him to Gilmore.
I really think the point of the "McDonnell=Bush" theme is to draw out something negative about Obama. Not gonna happen.
(at least, that's my prayer)
Micheline
Tax cuts are not very effective in stimulating the economy. In fact, Bush should have continued with the Clinton tax rate. Imagine what we could do right now if our leaders had the foresight to not institute a tax cut.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Moment by Charles Lemos, Wed Jul 01, 2009 at 12:55:47 AM EST
The National Security Adviser, General James Jones, is certainly a colorful guy. In the Washington Post story, there is this rather amusing anecdote.
The question of the force level for Afghanistan, however, is not settled and will probably be hotly debated over the next year. One senior military officer said privately that the United States would have to deploy a force of more than 100,000 to execute the counterinsurgency strategy of holding areas and towns after clearing out the Taliban insurgents. That is at least 32,000 more than the 68,000 currently authorized.
Nicholson and his senior staff, 20 Marine colonels and lieutenant colonels, sat around a table made of unfinished plywood the size of at least three ping-pong tables in a command headquarters that stands where there had been nothing but desert six months ago. The headquarters is located in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan, 370 miles from the capital, Kabul, in a region known as the Desert of Death because of its scorching heat and choking fine, dustlike sand. The province is facing a rising and lethal Taliban insurgency.
During the briefing, Nicholson had told Jones that he was "a little light," more than hinting that he could use more forces, probably thousands more. "We don't have enough force to go everywhere," Nicholson said.
But Jones recalled how Obama had initially decided to deploy additional forces this year. "At a table much like this," Jones said, referring to the polished wood table in the White House Situation Room, "the president's principals met and agreed to recommend 17,000 more troops for Afghanistan." The principals -- Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton; Gates; Mullen; and the director of national intelligence, Dennis C. Blair -- made this recommendation in February during the first full month of the Obama administration. The president approved the deployments, which included Nicholson's Marines.
Soon after that, Jones said, the principals told the president, "oops," we need an additional 4,000 to help train the Afghan army.
"They then said, 'If you do all that, we think we can turn this around,' " Jones said, reminding the Marines here that the president had quickly approved and publicly announced the additional 4,000.
Now suppose you're the president, Jones told them, and the requests come into the White House for yet more force. How do you think Obama might look at this? Jones asked, casting his eyes around the colonels. How do you think he might feel?
Jones let the question hang in the air-conditioned, fluorescent-lighted room. Nicholson and the colonels said nothing.
Well, Jones went on, after all those additional troops, 17,000 plus 4,000 more, if there were new requests for force now, the president would quite likely have "a Whiskey Tango Foxtrot moment." Everyone in the room caught the phonetic reference to WTF -- which in the military and elsewhere means "What the [expletive]?"
I'd love to be a fly in the room when someone goes in and tells PBO, "um, we need a few thousand more troops in Afghanistan." Cause, of course, we know where they'd come from...

A New Law in Georgia: Confederate History and Heritage Month
Yeah, that's right. Georgia went and made commemoration of that slave-holding, traitorous, secessionist, and devoutly racist institution ... a LAW. And the slow-witted, simple-minded kneegrows in the Georgia legislature went along with it. In exchange, they got a civil rights museum in jank-ass Savannah, that's supposed to be named after Ralph somebody-or-other.
I cannot believe that I live in a state that, in 2009, has legally set aside an entire month to celebrate the institution that would have kept my ancestors in bondage and oppression.
There's a small movement to do the same in VA...though I haven't heard much about it since they split up Lee-Jackson-King Day...
Monie
say what?....details, please.
I was always so ashamed growing up and seeing that "Lee-Jackson-King" holiday printed on school calendars
Town
Sen. Macaca named April Confederate History and Heritage Month back when he was the governor.
It always tickles me that Sen. Macaca loved the Confederacy so much, when he wasn't a southerner and wasn't a confederate. He did love the Council of Conservative Citizens, though. CCC is just a klassier KKK, ya know.
Monie
Indeed,Town.
And for those who don't know about the CCC:
Descended from the White Citizens' Councils that battled integration in the Jim Crow South, the CCC is designated a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center. In its "Statement of Principles," the CCC declares, "We also oppose all efforts to mix the races of mankind, to promote non-white races over the European-American people through so-called "affirmative action" and similar measures, to destroy or denigrate the European-American heritage, including the heritage of the Southern people, and to force the integration of the races."
I heard about it from someone when I was back doing Tea Party stuff...I think there's a Confederate Heritage Week but it's nothing officially recognized, and that's what some people want to move towards.
I remember the Sons of Confederate Veterans (think that's the group) were extremely pissed when they split the holiday.
The sovereignty movement popped up with the stimulus...remember Gov. Sanford? His basis for not having to accept the stimulus money was rooted in the 10th Amendment (powers not expressly given to the federal government are, by default, given to the states).
Gov. Perry in TX threw the idea of seccession into the mix, as there's some arcane part of their constitution that gives them power to leave the union. But the whole point/purpose of Sanford/Palin/Jindal/etc. attempting to refuse the stimulus funds is that they saw it as an infringement on the rights of the state...
...and I'm sure you can figure out what the problem is by that last sentence.
Miranda
Oh I didn't know it was a "movement" based on that. It doesn't make sense to me seeing as every state has been accepting federal dollars all along.
I don't recall one person ever making the statement "the Jena 6 did nothing bad"....do you have even one quote from anyone that stated that or did you just make that up?
Plantsmantx
What's your point? You think the Jena 6 should have been convicted, and imprisoned for upwards of 22 years?
Plantsmantx
I'm just wondering whare he's getting his talking points from, because the "black people don't think the Jena 6 were wrong" rhetoric comes from people who think it was right for them to face that much time, because they jumped a white guy.
Miranda
We know that's all it is...just wondering if he would actually admit it.
mon_dieu_ishmael
There were posts at JJP suggesting that this beat down was justified by the hanging of nooses in a tree (by other white students 6 months earlier).
Miranda
"suggesting"?? Please....dont even try that crap.
mon_dieu_ishmael
Here is the post (in part): Let's not forget how the Jena 6 started: with a group of black kids who wanted to sit under the "white tree" at their school only to find a noose there the next day. A group of white bullies targeted these boys and didn't stop until one of the black kids struck back in frustration. Then the black boys receive attempted murder charges and the white boys = nothing."
