Walter Cronkite will definitely be missed. He's a little bit before my time, and my anchor du jour will always be Peter Jennings, RIP.

Even as the MSM celebrates Cronkite over the next following days, I remain incensed that there is not a single AA journalist poised or postured to be a leader in the arena of day-to-day, 24-hour news cycle of journalism...a la the CNNs, MSNBCs or FOXs.

Shyt, none of the main networks ABC, CBS or NBC have a significant AA presence on their nightly newscasts for "us" to wonder if 10, 20, or 30 years from today, that "we" could be celebrating them like "they" are about to celebrate Cronkite.

So, WHERE IS "OUR" CRONKITE? Is it Tamron Hall? Is it Don Lemon? Is it Suzanne Malvaeux? Is it Fredericka Whitfield? Is it Soledad O'Brien? Is it Dan Lothian? Is it Lester Holt? WHO THE FUCK IS IT?

What is it that you miss? I grew up watching and remember the 60's news coverage very well. The fatherly authoritative voice was easy to apply when there were only three networks and one point of view. I do miss his documentaries and Walter's curiosity about science, but the daily news was donwright dangerous in those days. The news was propaganda back then, and the only truth there was. Today, we want to be upset because it is candy-coated and disposable. How many of you consider nightly news shows to be the best place or even the first place to find out what's going on?

yup. it was perfectly summed up in this discussion of dan abrams' new website “mediate,” which basically tracks who's up & who's down in the villagers' little parlor game:

In the past, this has always been an inside joke, something for media folk to snicker about in private. It's about being known, and being recognized.”

You ain't lyin'.

Cronkite was the reason Lyndon Johnson didn't run for re-election in 1968, because Cronkite pretty much exposed Vietnam for the sham was that it was.

Johnson himself said if he lost Cronkite, he would lose American support for Vietnam and he was right.

R.I.P Walter Cronkite.

CBS to Show Tribute to Cronkite Sunday Night

CBS will honor Walter Cronkite’s career and life in a one-hour prime time special Sunday at 7 p.m., the network said Friday.

Mr. Cronkite, the legendary CBS anchorman, died Friday evening. The tribute, titled “That’s The Way It Is: Remembering Walter Cronkite,” will replace “60 Minutes” on Sunday.
