What they(the children) experienced is the type of overt racism that has been the catalyst for the civil rights movment. Some people(white) actually think that things have changed for us(Black People) just because we're not sitting in the back of the bus. However if you take a look at the situation. Everyday we (Black People) face racism and discrimination in one form or another. We need a resurgence of the civil rights movement . Black people get of your asses and stop being complacent and pacified with your status. Just because you think that you have overcome. These children are our future! They deserve to have a future that will ensure true justice and equality…. It is up to us! The division of our people has done nothing but stifle our progress( Willie Lynch).

I was wrong when I said they couldn't sue the club for racial discrimination, I forgot that the 13th Amendment abolished slavery and gave an avenue for people to sue private entities for the continuing results of slavery (i.e., racial discrimination). It's more broad than the 14th Amendment because you don't need a state actor. Of course, there's not really a lot of money in suing for racial discrimination unless it was something particularly egregious where you can sue for punitive damages. But getting sued for racial discrimination isn't exactly a business booster. We already know the club is feeling the heat because they were on CNN crying (literally) over being called racist for being racist this weekend.

I agree with everyone else that Creative Steps should sue because that is a big way that the pool club will learn NOT to do that ever again.

I don't know if anyone else saw the pool club director and his wife on t.v crying with crocodile tears about how they are not racists and how it was all about safety I almost broke my t.v screaming and shaking it.

If it was truly about safety all they would had to do was reschedule or add more lifeguards to the pool, but of course they thought black folks would have been dumb enough to believe it. Makes me wonder if they've had done this before to other groups but non never complain.

Also what about the other groups that were canceled along with Creative Steps (if there were truly other groups) on that day?

I didn't hear much from them. Do anyone know if they would be able to be part of the lawsuit (if Creative Steps choice to sue)?

I am in agreement with RobM.
Get something meaningful from this, for the children's sake.
I am also in agreement with The_A.
The swim club should be vigilant against racism...and they should pay for what they did.
I want those children to go back and swim in that swim club to let the haters know, "We didn't do anything wrong, and we are swimming here."

Now, if the decision is made that the children will not go back, I don't have a problem with their decision; what was done to the children was horrible.

...but, that's my opinion (one that I went back & forth on).

No way in hell would I send my kids back for more punishment, censure, and ridicule. I really hope the parents don't cave to show that Blacks as usual can forgive and forget, when the children are once again tasked to carry the burden of being seen as less than humans by Whites.

The swim club should take an aggressive stand against any further racist behavior among its membership at its facility.

I understand why you feel that way. That approach will not give these children an opportunity. I'd look for the settlement to do more than just the use of the pool. I'd look to see that one, all these children learn to swim(breast, butterfly, crawl and backstroke) at least 100 yds w/o stopping. Two, look to create a swimming team from all of the kids. Three, train these kids to be life guards at pools and beaches.
Everyone has to be involved to see that this happens. I am not expecting all these folks to sit down and sing KUMBAYA. I am expecting for them to be adults by putting their preconceived notions aside and help these children w/ more than a place to cool off in the summer heat.
