Could not read all of the comments (good lawd, 226 on last count?) but I think that healthy critique makes the world goes around
That said, I was pretty underwhelmed. For the first time, his black preacher stylistics really fell flat to me and felt really contrived. I'm sad that I felt that way because I've NEVER felt that way before. And I think it is a sign o' the times if you will (and perhaps of audience expectations?)
And I don't EVER like the "blame the ghetto"/Cosby was right rhetoric. It is scarily disconnected from the reality that many, many black people here in the U.S. face and never goes down with enough critical assessment of institutionalized racism and other structures of oppression (gender, sexuality, etc. etc. etc.).
I haven't seen Pat acting a fool but if he or Chris Matthews said this speech was just for black folks they are dead wrong. This speech was especially pitched for whites in its fairly centrist rhetoric and its Executive Office talking points (health care, energy, education) as issues that we ALL face without talking about how these issues specifically impact the black community, or even the black and Latino community, (rising obesity, diabetes, hypertension, heart attacks, etc. in the black community because of inequal access to healthy food and doctors; pollution and environmental violence and gentrification in black neighborhoods; curriculum, teachers, healthy food, clean schools, safe schools, education that empowers young people, support for families and children) and what the NAACP can do about it.
I hope Obama gets his act together. But I guess as POTUS you can only do so much. And he said so in the first few minutes of his speech: Presidents got pushed to make the changes that we see today and are living with today. So our President needs to keep getting pushed. And this should be the forum where that happens and continues to happen--first black President or not.
Micheline
I didn't get the impression he was lecturing black folks or anything but to each his own.
jdickenslaw
I agree. I didn't get that impression either.

that is because he wasn't lecturing. But whosoever has ears let them hear.
It is up to them to decide what to do with the information.

"The job losses stem from the past 8 years"
Well I mentioned much more than that, however I don't know how much longer he can go on blaming the current job loses on the previous administration-especially given the stimulus that was supposed to curtail the loses.
Wall Street collasped under the previous administration as well and they have already rebounded and are making money and paying bonuses again. However, average folk have to wait for the entire stimulus to be rolled for its full effect to be felt according to the administration. But by the time the stimulus is fully rolled out , how many more people will have lost their homes. jobs and receiving unemployment?
alison269
Jobs are a lagging indicator of economic growth. That is just the truth. The prez just cant wave his finger and create jobs. The Stimulus will create jobs but it takes a while. You seem to forget that the stimulus was passed only 3 months ago and it is forecasted to create the bulk of Jobs in 2010. It is impossible to fix structural job losses particularly in the manufacturing industry that have been in the making for 8 years in just 3 months. Atleast give the guy a year or better 4 years to prove himslef. And dont kid urself wall street hasn't rebounded. they still have the toxic assets on the balance sheet and CITGroup is about to go bankrupt. Atleast the prez took concrete steps to fight job loss and help those who have lost their jobs by passing the stimulus and extending unemployment benefits and subsidizing COBRA. Imagine what John McCain and Sarah Palin would have done.
friskee1
Ok, now that I got to see the rest of the speech, a couple of things come to mind. I was watching hardball and chris mathews bought up the fact that he couldn't say some of the things that the president said. My question is that why are whites so hellbent on calling the black community out when they don't have their own house in order. Many whine about them not being able to say what the pres said or even not using the 'N' word(why do they wanna say that word so much?) but they completely miss the point. Pat buchanan can come on national tv and actually claim that whites are superior even though this country became wealthy on the backs of slaves and women. I too enjoyed the speech, but it I don't think he was pulling a cosby here. he touched on discrimination, policy, eduation and inequality but got real about the realities that our kids face. we're becoming more globalized and our kids have to compete and the only was to do that is through education. but the white media will only hear ho excuses as if that's what they always wanted to say about us but couldn't.
Booky
Co-sign friskee1, my sentiments exactly.
dthomas_85
Another speech that doesn't amount to much-it's all just a dog and pony show for the cult support he gets from us African Americans and organizations like the NAACP. I guess he'll give one of these every so often to appease the black masses, but I doubt any real change will happen given his track record thus far.
I really think at this point most black Americans know that Obama can perform for blacks when he wants to pacify the flock. However, most don't know that he's escalating war in the Middle East and supports 100 billion dollar taxpayer bailouts for corrupt companies and Wall Street investors. How many private and public schools in the inner city could be reformed with the money this country has dedicated to bailouts and policing the world?
He also is continuing the policy to detain prisoners without trial in Gitmo, supporting rank and file discrimination against gays in the military with DADT, ignored the Un World Conference on Racism, and is supporting the building of a billion dollar tax payer funded embassy in Pakistan. Thus far the stimulus has not done much- we have 2.5 million jobs lost under his administration and this number is increasing every moment.
“Change we can believe in”, I don’t know, seems like we are blindly supporting the same old stuff because of someone who knows how to give a performamce to his chosen audience.
I know it's early, but my God, are we black folk so desperate to feel accepted that we are uncritical of all these things. Peace.
malletgirl02
"Cult support" nice, real nice. Like all black people share one hive brain.
PBomb
Actually, it's not being desperate. You completely twisting facts to suit your logic.
The job losses stem from the past 8 years. If you are familiar with history of economics at all then you would realize that the past 2.5 million jobs lost are an unfortunate outcome from the past administration's mishandling of the economy. Nobody can reverse 8 years of a bubble economy in six months. That just doesn't happened. Let's be realistic. Now if you have a problem with President Obama for other reasons than the crap you just made up, fine. But have facts to back-up your asseriions.

Here's the thing. Like Te_Nahesi Coates said, the problem isn't Obama or his speeches to blacks, its the spin white media wants to put on them. It wasn't just the NYT: five minutes after Obama concluded his speech the Huffington Post had "NO EXCUSES: Obama Delivers Emotional Speech to NAACP" as its screaming headline. (It was still there at 7:48 AM EST when I composed this.) Chris Matthews carried the entire speech live on Hardball, then turned to his two black guests and said "this speech was for black people; it wasn't for the rest of us." White Americans take the venue and a few snippets of the speech and use those as a convenient excuse to tune out the rest of the conversation. Its something they've always been able to do: pick and choose what they feel is relevant to them and ignore whatever they don't want to deal with.
It was a damn good speech. People dismiss it as a black lecture to their own detriment. What we need to keep in mind is most media organizations are run by whites trying to appeal to a readership made up of mostly white folk. They try to tailor their stories and headlines in a way that they feel attracts that viewer base; truth and accuracy be damned.
whiterosebuddy
"Chris Matthews....turned to his two black guests and said "this speech was for black people; it wasn't for the rest of us."
I hope one of those guests replied,
AND? 'when he speaks to the UAW it is to auto workers and not the rest of us, when he speaks to the TeachersUnion it is to the teachers and not the rest of us, when he speaks to AFL-CIO, it is the service workers and not the rest of us, when he speaks to kids in schools it is to those children and not the rest of us, when he speaks toWallStreet it is those investors and shysters and not the rest of us'
I hope one of those 'black guests' said that...and remarked that they too were guests that night because Matthews wanted to hear what he said to US and not the rest of them!
spirit_55z
I agree with you wholeheartedly, EB. President Obama does not give speeches to make folks FEEL good. His speeches must be listened to and contemplated.
If you want "Feel good" go get a massage or have sex. If you want the truth, open up your heart and your mind will follow.
Fuck Chris Matthews and nem. These crackas don't pay my mortgage or put food on my table.

No, actually, when I watched the speech in its entirety I felt much better about it. He gave a pretty tempered speech. But from reading some news outlets, you get the idea that Obama was telling blacks to stop being victims and pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Actually, he discussed the hurdles presented by institutional racism and added that the black community was also responsible for changing things.
Booky
I don't want to hear the "black folks need to turn off the X-box, read to their children, attend parent teacher conference blah, blah, blah" again because all it does in reinforce the media driven sterotype that black folks need someone to tell them what to do. They didn't have to tell black folks how to build the Captitol or the White House. They didn't have to tell black folks how to fight off the dogs and hoses in Birmingham. They didn't are about a man being in the home or single parents during slavery when they forbid blacks to we and sold their children off. Black folks aren't the only ones that need to "take personal responsibility". As a matter of fact give reparations and we'll show you some personal responsibility. CNN has already started with the "Is it time to end affirmative action" because we have a black President stuff.
Val
riiiggght so just hide our flaws cause we don't want anyone to know our issues. . . .Not.
Booky - more people need to stand up and say these exact things so some of our people will begin to do the right thing. Clearly his speech does not apply to EVERYBODY on every topic but it impacts many. Who cares what CNN, MSNBC, ABC etc etc etc have to say. I don't care. If we reach one child or one parent it is worth it. We certainly need to have these conversations publicly and more often.
PBomb
I use to work for the media and have written for broadcasts. Broadcast Journalism writing itself is all about grabbing your attention. Whenever someone gives a speech, I always get the official transcript. That way you get the full story and not some choppoed up version.

You are so right. They are having to be dragged, kicking and screaming into the future. You know Pat's panties are still on fire over O being LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD (Breathe it in. Let it out. I wish some sordid, scurillous scandal would break about Pat, as has happened with many of his repugnant brethern. I wish his oldest grand daughter would shack up with a big, muscular, blue-black, semi-literate Black man who kissed and fondled her in front of Pat. I wish she would have 3 illegitimate babies in 3 years. I wish the oldest one would be named Pat Buchannan and the 2nd one would be named Ojay Buchannan. Let the 3rd one be named Prince Michael Jackson Buchannan. Let him have a grandson who is a drag queen and one who looks like a freak of nature due to all the tatoos and piercings on his face.
Let us find out that Bay Buchannan is Pat in drag (like Sarah Palin is Eric Cantor in drag). Let all of this be published on HuffPo, and maybe my head won't explode.

It doesn't mean she's not a racist, either. Let's not forget all the joint endeavors she has with her brother, including the one headed up by that kid who assaulted a black woman just because she happened to come along when he was in the mood to hit a darkie.
whiterosebuddy
Yes, Word...we need Farrakhan to give the rebuttal!!
Ya know, just thinking about leaves me so flummoxed. I mean - the LOGIC of his thought! That's was so insightful and at the same time - raw. Raw racism.
And that twisting of "you know I'm right" and "I believe you don't believe that"...... like attempting to tell Rachel how she viewed or what she thought of working class folk.
The ReThugs brought those firefighters to the fight, demonstrating the VERY thing they bitched about with Obama and Sotomayor - empathy. What the fuck did they have to do with anything other than she decided the case based on THE LAW?
whiterosebuddy
Yes, it was ugly...I wanted to jump through the TV and give a rebuttal cause see Rachel also recieves white entitlement so she really does not hear the visceral hate as she has really not encountered the racism and discrimination that POC have. She does FEEL the insult, she only HEARS it.
And her kind, is the biggest beneficiary of AffACT but yet she said nothing when Pat was spewing his 'sotomayor got in on affACT' think Rachel would address how that is true of WHITE FEMALES much more so than anyBODY when it comes to AffAct..nope..it went unchallenged...even the whole denigration of sotomayors grades!
See, the firefighters are a perfect example of how their empathy is even racist...empathy for them...not us, we just get their HATE.
I wanted to jump through the TV and give a rebuttal cause see Rachel also recieves white entitlement so she really does not hear the visceral hate as she has really not encountered the racism and discrimination that POC have.
Right.
And outside of my having experienced that as a woman, I know it HAS to pale (no pun intended) next to anything a POC has and does experience.
Once in Dublin, Ohio - a friend & I were going into Krogers, and as we're walking from the car to the entrance I noticed this white guy glaring at her as he was walking towards the entrance. That look was visceral. It caught me off guard and, at the same time, I wanted to walk over and thump the shit out of him, and for a split second I broke stride - and she said, 'Keep walking, keep walking, come on.' It still makes me want to cry.
Good point on the racist empathy - ya put into words for me. God knows people are very grateful for the 'work' firefighters do, but this parade was fucking wrong.
Oh - and I think when you were talking about Rachel here: "She does FEEL the insult...." I'm thinking it should read: "She does not FEEL the insult, she only HEARS it." Anyway that's how I read when I first read it and then realized the word "not" wasn't in there. My head had put it in there. Jeezzzus - did THAT make sens?!
What I found astonishing

"Good point on the racist empathy "
Word, whitefolks have more empathy for their dogs/pets than they do blacks...you see how Vick was imprisoned but they can shoot a blackperson in cold blood and spend nary a day in prison.

For Obama to avoid getting (mis)quoted by the MSM in a salacious and crude way regarding the Black community he would have to avoid talking about personal responsibility and self reliance entirely. Obama is still a full speech President in a soundbite era. They decidedly ignored the finer points of the speech in favor of "scolding" elements.
Lets face it. As many have said before. The NAACP has to focus on what ails the Black Community to be relevant. They have to be an org which addresses, Drop out rates, criminal recidivism, and jobs training. In a since we as still fighting the classic BT Washington v Dubois fight, self help versus legal empowerment. The truth is both are equally important, but right now orgs like the NAACP are failing to address the prior.

Thank you Justice. I KNOW that prayers are helping, otherwise...
That's the New York Times headline on Obama's speech to the NAACP. I don't even know what to say anymore. I haven't heard Obama's speech. But I've seen this play out so many times, that I'm fairly sure what happened. Obama probably said a lot of things, and in the midst of it spent a few minutes on "putting down the Playstation and turning off the Ipod."And then he probably said something about not accepting any excuses from our kids. And thus we have a reductive headline.
Like I said earlier this week--so much of this isn't about Obama himself, but a deep-seated desire to get out from under history. Expiation on the cheap. White guilt isn't anyone's friend. Least of all black people's.
lamh32
And here is Ta-Nehisi's comment after seeing the speech. Guess what he liked the speech, it's the coverage of the speech that he had a problem with. From some of your comments below thread, you were probably already inclined not to like the speech before you even heard it.
Seriously though, it only makes you feel worse about the coverage. Like, they're missing this big, great thing...I take it hard because it's my business.

PS this commenter on Tanesihia Coats blogs says exactly what I'm trying to say only better.
Kawan July 16, 2009 9:51 PM I understand his point to a degree, but doesn't his mere presence mean that? Sometimes I wish we (as black folks) could get a policy speech instead of a sermon. Black folks would like to know about the public option, or how the war is proceeding, or maybe tell me to buy an American car to help the economy. It's boring, but it's something I need to know.
I know he's black already. So is my mailman.
The sad part is, he's just enabling the Pat Buchanans of the world. The folks on the right who will co-opt his message to use it for their own ends.

"doesn't his mere presence mean that"
But Obama is only ONE...we need more!!
What is the path for more of us, where are the majority of us, what ails that majority?
That is what he addressed...the majority who can be the next talenth tenth.
To address this "Kawan" person, the last time I checked Black people aren't barred from watching CNN or any of the other news channel. You watch those stations and you're bound to hear Obama talk about those things he/she referred to.
Now, I couldn't give a good goddamn about what Pat Buchanan or any of the other constipated bitter old white fossils have to say. And I promise you, Booky, the sooner you stop caring as well the better your life will be.

"We have the chance to fight this battle at the ballot box before we have to resort to the bullet box," Crabill said. "That's the beauty of our Second Amendment rights ... Our Second Amendment rights were to guard against tyranny."

As usual, Obama & the blacks talk not about responsibility, but about history. How long ago did slavery end? And you still cant get your shit together. PATHETIC!!! You know, we whites have been enslaved throughout history as well. And look who has come out of it the most successful. Now, Obama will pander you all, and you will never have to work as hard as the white man & woman to get ahead. All you have to do is cry racism like the whining, lazy little fags that you are, and the spineless liberal whites will kneel down and perform on you. This country is going to hell in a hand basket
If you don't love America anymore, move somewhere else.
themirror
Leave this country you say. Who the hell do you think you are to even consider telling me to leave this country. When my Irish ancestors came to this country in the 1840s, they came as a result of the famine. Thats right, the famime! There where no jobs for us Irish to pick cotton, heck we even where slaves to British and Dutch investors. So as far as i'm concerned, Africans had it made in the shade when they came here. Not nearly as many Africans died as Irish, the facts man the facts!! More Irish died than Africans before the Irish even got to this country. So before you start flapping your fat gums, get your facts staraight and get over yourself!! Because as far asx i'm concernegd, people like you, and everyone that thinks like you...are the ignorant pansies! God bless Sergeant Crowley.

How many died? Facts, please.
themirror
Ok, you want facts?? It has been proving by death records a skeletal remains, that approximately 3 million Irish died. Had enough? Do you even know what the Irish famine was? Of course not, your only concerned with your ignorant, racist, anti white rhetoric. Where are your facts? Because i never hear blacks with facts, i hear blacks with hate.
whiterosebuddy
Yes, I well know the history of the Irish and the Black Irish too.
Do you know what the African disapora is?
Now, on to the facts.
Four million Africans tied in the middle passage just coming to America. Another "3,724 blacks were lynched in the United States from 1889 through to 1930. That brings us to 12.3M
Guess what, 4.3M is more than3M.Disease and starvation due to the length of the passage were the main contributors to the death toll with amoebic dysentery and scurvy causing the majority of deaths. Additionally, outbreaks of smallpox, syphilis, measles, and other diseases spread rapidly in the close-quarter compartments.
Don't sound nothing like made in the shade to me. So, it is you spouting the riDICulous rhetoric of ignorance of 'more died in the Irish famine...you just a LIE!!!
I hear nothing but hate from you. You don't even know the facts, you just rant and spew whatEVER.
Learn the facts, then maybe you can have a civil discourse.
themirror
12 million? I find that hard to believe. That would equte to at least 20 million Africans attempting to migrate here. Where did you get that number from? What about Obama and his support ($265 billion) of abortion? Is that the type of Obamanation you want running our country. Wake up!!
whiterosebuddy
I gave you a VERY conservative estimate, to show how your rantss are straight up lies.
David Stannard estimates that some 30 to 60 million Africans died being enslaved.
At the very least, 35% of those enslaved in Africa died before they were ever put to work in America. On the other hand, at least 20% of them survived. Between these extreme possibilites (35-80%), the most likely mortality rate is 62%.
In terms of absolute numbers, the lowest possible (and only barely possible at that) death toll we can put on the trans-Atlantic slave trade is 6 million. If we assume the absolute worst, a death toll as high as 60 million is at the very edge of possibility; however, the likeliest number of deaths would fall somewhere from 15 to 20 million.
So, how bout you just STFU about that measly piddlyass 3M deaths in the Irish famine.
Byeeee...dumbshyt!!!
windswept
Did that feel better, writing that fascinating bit of your family's history?
You act like only the Irish endured rough crap before and after they came to America. Get over yourself, no ethnic migration was greeted with bunnies, rainbows and hugs when they came to America.
I called you ignorant since you didn't take anyone else's family or ethnic history into account when you wrote your original rant. I called you a pansy because you just reacted emotionally with what you wrote instead of reading up about things and thinking about them.
themirror
You keep putting words into my mouth. I am debating the validity of the blacks claim on racism, because i think blacks are more racist than whites (from my experience), and because blacks never listen to anything outside of their own viewpoints. I never said the Chinese or anyone else had it easy. I am just sick and tired of hearing you blacks bellyaching like a bunch of immature children. Grow up and get over it! 91% of crimes in America are committed by non whites, you never commented on that. I know, its the white cops fault. I have no more to say to any of you.
windswept
So you want this to be a debate, and then use unsupported (and unproven) blanket statements about racism in terms of viewpoint.
You attempted to show that those who emigrated from Ireland to America endured more hardship than those who were forced to emigrate from Africa - and offered no verifiable proof.
You want to get understanding for your perspective, but make no attempt to understand others' perspectives.
You say "I have no more to say to any of you!" right after saying that people never listen to something outside of their own viewpoint.
The irony with everything there is simply tangible.
If you seriously want to argue these sorts of issues, you might want to look into playing chess locally, or join a local debate team.

If you want to improve your race, quit acting like its someone else's fault, and act like an adult. Obama is going to ruin this country, which you and i have to live in.WAKEUP!! Nope. Obama is proof, without discrimination, we RISE to the top in ONE generation...you do realize he is African don't you? Without your discrimination and HATE we would've RULED this country in the 18th century! No man, i am not frightened of smoke screens. You see, you keep thinking its an issue of Obama bringing down ths system...and of course that system is a white mans system. But what you fail to see, is that Obamas bosses are white, and are letting him do this on purpose. You are still a slave!
Sorry to be the spoil sport, but how come every time POTUS comes around black folks he has to "lecture" us about "personal" responsiblity and tell us what "we need to do" and stuff like we're children or something? That is playing right into the gop sterotypical talking points of the lazy, shiftless, baby making negroes, stealing, shuffling, jiving and stealing. That's beginning to get on my nerve. What about JOBS POTUS? What about funding HBCU's POTUS? How about talking about the REAL issues and the real problems and coming up with some solutions for the black community for a change. And NO. I'm not Tavis Smiley and POTUS in not Bill Cosby. Of course the only thing the white wing media is focusing on from his speech is the tongue lashing he gave his peeps..
Newsflash: The POTUS does not discriminate. He will go to a convention of doctors (AMA) and give them the truth about healthcare. He will go to a convention of Israel-Backers (AIPAC) and give them the truth about a Palestinian State.
Our President is friendly, but he doesn't kiss ass. He will tell you the truth. Some of us appreciate the chastisement. Whether or not you can handle the truth is on you dude.
themirror
Healthcare, you want to hear a story about healtcare?! My sister lives in England, where they have this so called "socialized medicine" healthcare system, her husband had been paying into that healthcare system for years, yet when she needed a foot operation, she had to wait ONE YEAR for a foot operation!! And sat there in pain waiting for that operation. Is that what you want?? Dont even get me started on the Israelis backers. How about the FACT that 91% of crime i n the United States is committed by non-whites! What do you think about that fact?? Will Obama tell that truth??
themirror
Well, when you blacks stop the lazy, stealing, shuffling & jiving, shiftless, baby making negroes, then we wont need to talk about that anymore! Take responsibility for your choices, and quit looking at us whites.
Justice58
I laugh in your face! You're scared as a mutha & rightly so.
You should be mofo. After what you racist bastards did to black folks.
You know why POTUS does this? Why THIS POTUS does this "what we need to do"? He does because we need it. We need to hear it. Now - he's not Malcolm, but he's channelling Malcolm (ironically of all places at an NAACP convention - LOL!). the point is - Didn't Malcolm tell us the truth? Wasn't he harder on us about our failure to fight the proper fight - than our enemies? Of course he was, like a "black prince" (per Ossie Davis' observation). The POTUS is telling us something that we can probably only hear from him - because we can be reasonably sure that what we're hearing is from the heart and to our benefit.
whiterosebuddy
Tell it!! DC...you are dead on target!!
Booky
Speak for yourself dreresident21. I don't need to hear it. POTUS is not my Daddy or my God. POTUS isn't telling me, or anyone I know anything we don't already know.

It's okay to have your questions but for the most part CELEBRATE DAMN IT NOT LOVE TO HATE!
dcresident21
So what should he be saying? And to whom? I'm not saying he's my (or your) Daddy - I don't need to hear it either - no one on this Blog needs to hear it. The fact that we're even speaking across this medium proves that point.
The issue is not you or me. It's the "masses" who need to hear this. Not the petty bourgeoisie that comprises most of the black intelligencia.
The fact is, for many in the masses (or the pre-teen children of those masses) - the picture Obama paints of their outlook is accurate. Walk inside your average high school in DC, Baltimore, Philly, etc - Let me ask you - is that population reading the Atlantic? Checking out the Nation, perhaps? Is that population debating the intricacies of the different effects of varied negative externalities wrought by white supremacy or white nationalist capitalist economics (i.e. - is it class or race?)
Those 15 year olds don't care or understand. But, they do understand via the "heavy rotation" of your average (quasi) black-owned radio station that all they should be concerned about is sex, money, cars, and ice (along with a little liquor thrown in).
It's about the counter-balance message that Obama is giving - and "us educated black folks" may be a bit too far removed from the real deal problems - and the people living in those problems - to grasp the value of the "talking to" that Obama is giving (some of) us.
At some level he's saying - the failure to take it upon ourselves to advance the cause of our own progress just allows the PB's of the world a victory through forfeit.
It may not be for you - so be it. Let's hope those of us who aren't so enlightened hear what's being said.
wasteacher
I really feel and agree with what you are saying. And like you alluded to, O was (and we are) preaching to the choir. What about those who need to be reached? What suggestions do you have to reach them? How could I reach them when I have different values? The only thing I know is to tell them the truth as I know it to be, which I'm sure sounds alarmist to them. But I'm afraid for them. I agree with O that education is/can be the great equalizer and I tell them the same. I tell them that every day is a new day, and they can choose to do things in a different way.
Well, I'm in the process of trying to get into a franchise charter school system (Kipp Academy). These kids are also poor, but they aren't allowed to disrespect or not learn. I'm so thankful that my son was admitted to our Kipp HS here, voted #88 in the nation in US News & World report. At the public school where I teach, we get the few kids who are kicked out of Kipp. They either get with the Kipp program or open up a space for someone who will (teaching paradise).
whiterosebuddy
PREEEEACH!!! break it down, tell it!!
Booky
All I'm saying is I wish we could get the policy speech and not the personal responsibility speech because the people that really need to hear the responsiblity speech aren't evening listening.
dcresident21
I agree in significant part. A straight policy speech - a real, deal, C-SPAN-type discussion would be fully and greatly appreciated. I have to ask whether this is partly the NAACP's fault. When Sharpton was running a few years ago they hosted a presidential (primary) debate. It was a farce. Every line was a soundbite. It was, in a word - disgraceful. Obama's speech night was professorial, by contrast.
On the other hand - I do ask why it has to been entertainment time. But this goes back to my point - that's you, me and the rest of the internet connected people here who really want that speech - or will at least appreciate it. We will sit down and listen (and appropriately pull apart and criticize) a C-SPAN discussion on health care and green jobs and whether any of that stimulus money is really reaching black and brown communities.
Will the clique of girls following Lill Wayne's every move hear that speech? What about that crew of soldjahs trying to be down? Will they understand the concern about China currency manipulation? We're living in a Headline News world (not a Washington Journal one) - Obama needs to speak those in need.
I hear ya' though. . .
lamh32
I understand completely what ur saying.
For example, I have become a politcal blog fanatic. So I have become so much more politically wired than other people in my circle of black colleagues at work and elsewhere.
I can honestly tell you that if I asked them what they thought about torture, waterboarding, green jobs, etc, they would have no idea aside from the boiler plate stuff they gets reported on the news in snippets. Hell they would be bored to tears
Now if I ask them any Michael Jackson or superficial news about the Obama family, then will be all ears.
If the wanted to hear that type of stuff, then like us, they would be blogging like a storm, or at the least keeping abreast of the political chattering class.
They aren't because they don't want to.
whiterosebuddy
YOu might not need it...but a whole generation of blacks DO!!
lamh32
Just cause the white wing media is focusing on the stupid don't mean we are.
Maybe ur problem is that ur are putting too much importance, and paying too much attention to what the white media thinks.
This is ur issue, not ours.
whiterosebuddy
NOpe. It is ours!! We have the highest incarceration, droupout, and OOW rate!!
We NEED to be told. Cosby said it and he was right. Obama is too.
Accountability, self reliance, responsibility...WE have the opportunity..we need to ACT on it!!
You obviously don't know the facts. The OOW rate that the mainstream media loves to discuss and report is not an accurate depiction of what is going on people like Algernon Austin and Ta-Nehisi Coates have already discussed this.
In many cities, Latino youth have higher dropout rates than black youth however according to Obama, it is America that fails hardworking Latinos not themselves.
There are many reasons for the high incarceration rates but you will never hear about it. Years of isolation, lack of education will lead to high crime...its a proven fact. Another is the drug war. 80% of the black men in prison are there for non-violent drug offenses. Its a much deeper problem and neither Cosby or Obama have given it is due complexity. If it were for Cosby, we would believe that "sagging pants" have caused the social and economic gaps in our society. If it were for Cosby we would think that it just so happens that these social and economic gaps fall on racial lines in favor of a particular group because they just worked harder.
The reason why change and progression has been so slow is because people are ignorant about the complexity of the problems that face poor and working class black communties. Its more than meets the ignorant eye. History and current anthropological and sociological findings have been silenced in favor of simplistic explanations that work to further empower the status quo and keep others in the dark. Most people lack the basic tools to decode certain messages.
The only black folk who think Obama and Cosby are right are the same ones who get their information from the white mainstream media and have failed to think for themselves. The ones who agree are usually self-righteous by nature.
Most poor and working class black youth have little understanding of what goes on in the world outside of their directly depressed surroundings. For many, their social status has become an aspect of their identity because for generations, they have been entrenched in the same enviornment. Anyone who knows psychology would know that behavior is the result of the interaction between a person and their enviornment. None of what we are saying is new, its the same old problems that have not been solved because people are only arguing over symptoms and not the actual root causes. Hence, they have gotten deeper and much harder to pull out from the root.
Think about it, while Obama could try and score points by talking about Lil Wayne and the like (so white men like the ones in the coffee shop I was in can give standing ovations), he like so many refuse to deal with the reality that the hip-hop industry and sports industry that have been the most visible means of social mobility in regards to wealth and status for young black men from neighborhoods like the 9th Ward, Watts and Brownsville. That should make us question American society, not the youth who are influenced. Their parents work undesirable jobs as they have been generaion after generation. Most of their parents, growing up in the same enviornment, are lost themselves which is why any change must be collective. As the old African proverb says, It takes a village to raise a child. We need to revisit that collectivism. Parents can only pass on to their children what they have learned themselves. To become financially stable and mobile in America takes starting on a solid foundation, I find that a lot of these people have no foundation due to our history and current reality. They have few opportunities to get this foundation and most don't know how. It has less to do with their lack of motivation than it does with their knowledge and our society's injustices. I live in Brooklyn though I grew up in a rich mostly white suburb in Westchester County (30-40 min. from NYC). I grew up far away from these people but from educating and enlightening myself, I have managed to understand their plight. I have managed to see its complexity and their complexity as human beings. Someone needs to point me to a time when black people got any breaks from our society, any help....never...never. Black America has made a great many strides and there are numbers that prove it. A 50% droput rate in urban schools is far better than the 12-20% that existed just 30-40 years ago. What few people fail to realize is that organizations like the NAACP and this whole idea of speaking to one monolithic "Black America" is outdated. We are a culturally and economically diverse black America/society in the 21st century. America may have gotten rid of overt racial apartheid but it never got rid of class apartheid which still holds our social stratifications and racial hierarchies in place. What afflicts these people has a whole lot to do with class which is something few mention. It is for this reason why there exists a grwoing class divide within black America between the upper class and middle class blacks and the working class and poor blacks. So for someone to claim that Obama is speaking to "blacks" is completely, completely inaccurate. The issue amongst blacks is mostly half and half.
What Obama needs to stop doing is giving soundbytes to the white mainstream media. There are plenty of ways he can deliver a similar message with different words choice but he has chosen his words for the interest of the white mainstream media which is why I will cut him no slack. Obama in my opinion gives credence to the stereotypes about black people as well as explanations about the social ills we face that mainstream society enjoys promoting. I know he knows better which is why I am annoyed. Obama knows what tree to climb.
malletgirl02
That was a great post. I personally think Cosby gets much more credence than he deserves. I haven't seen the Obama speech, so I won't comment on it.
Now to your post, I think the best part is, "That should make us question American society, not the youth who are influenced."
Cosby and others like to complain how youth are ignorant of history, and that is completely their fault. My issue is it is not young people's fault, sure they could read books, but it is the older people's responsibility to teach young people history. Instead of hectoring, Cosby and co. could be teaching.
One more thing, black people as a community, on a whole have never had an issue with personal, social or mutual responsiblity. This is not the issue, to sum up my essay, the problem is the way this term is employed. People who use it often lack the complex understanding of black society and much more importantly American society to make any judgments! What annoys me is that our history in this country as well as in the diaspora is focused on self-determination and self-reliance! It is the cornerstone of our philosophy as African people. What do you think Black power meant? The black radicals and nationalists that everyone hates so much has long made this their central focus as the primary method of community advancement. Malcolm X has long received more popularity amongst various sects in black society both within and outside of US borders for his preaching of self-determination and reliance. X gave actions words to black people while King gaves action words to white people. It is strange how inconsistent our society is when it comes to this. Nonetheless, Pres. Obama is not from the Malcolm X tradition but from the Booker T Washington tradition which is extremely distinct from the messages from Malcolm X. Its my understanding of this which makes these messages so patronizing coming from White America and what seems to be their black spokesperson.
whiterosebuddy
Sorry Rhondo...having read your diatribe...the point I made was factual..you are trying to engage in the reasons for the socio-pathologic dysfunction in Black communities, which I was not addressing.
And your diatribe doesn't change ANY of those facts.
Good thing you learned your history, I lived it and folks like you only read about it. Glad you know about HueyP and Bobby, but guess what...knowing that history is no excuse for what exists in the community today.
Your perspective is that black folks are victims STILL. Despite the historical fact that there is far less discrimination and virtual no lynchings. When segregation and lynching were prevalent our folks still went to Harvard, still had intact families and still achieved despite the odds. You however are making excuses. Things are FAR better and there is no excuse. As the President said, we control our destiny.
Stick with the facts they are far more persuasion.
I guess your Westchester family allowed you to make excuses for not cleaning your room or doing the dishes cause you had FieldHockey or LaCrosse practice. Well, in the real world it doesn't work that way. Excuses are simply excuses. You have to do the dishes, make the bed and clean your room anyway, even if you go to prep school that costs more annually, than the median income in the black community.
malletgirl02
"The black radicals and nationalists that everyone hates so much has long made this their central focus as the primary method of community advancement."
I remember during the Wright saga during the primaries. despite the controversy one of the key roles of Wright's church was building up the community.
Oddly enough Trinity community church was called racist because because of the goal of building up the black community. Which is oddly enough one of the things white say black communities need to do.
Booky
Exactly lamh, which is why POTUS needs to stop focusing on the stupid when it comes to the black community and focus on the real issues and stop playing into the white wing media sterotype.
You said Obama should "stop focusing on the stupid when it comes to the black community and focus on the real issues" Which leads me to believe you don't think education (which is the main issue Obama addressed to the NAACP) is important. If you backtrack anymore you're gonna start moonwalking.
Booky
You were led to believe wrong HopeOverFear. Please refer to my previous comments for clarification.
whiterosebuddy
U right HOpe...Booky..may mean well..but he/she is off base.
Miranda
It doesnt matter what POTUS actually says in any speech, the media is gonna chop it up to be what they want it to be anyway.
rikyrah
this is why I READ Obama's speeches...because ' the media' is watching a whole other speech.
Booky
That's my point rikyrah, the media is watching the part of the speech telling black folks to "accept personal responsiblity" ie. don't expect the government to give you a hand out ie. welfare.
spirit_55z
I have printed all of President Obama's speeches and placed them in a notebook.
His speeches are multilayered, and they are meant to speak to a multitude of consciousness.
Every time I read his Philadelphia race speech, I gain greater insights.
I truly believe PBO's speeches will have significant historical value for millenia.
AxelFoley
Now that's a damn good idea, spirit. I think I'm gonna do that, too.
Tavis is that u?....he did not deliver a tongue lashing and at no point did he even make it seem like it was....if the people in the audience felt that it was then they wouldn't have been appaulding
Booky
The people in the audience were glad and proud to even be in the same as POTUS and that's fine. All I'm asking is why POTUS feels he has to include the "personal responsibilty lecture" whenever he's around his peeps. Black folks know what personal responsiblity it. We've taken personal responsiblity all of our lives. Our ancestors took personal responsiblity all of their lives. We don't need a lecture. We need jobs. We need healthcare. We need access to good public schools.
I'm glad you have such an optimistic view. I personally believe too many of us still act a fool for no good reason.
My dad used to always say "A hit dog will bark". In other words, the only reason to get your panties in a bunch over what he said is because he's telling the truth about you (not meaning you personally)
Booky
I personally believe it's easy to talk about people cutting the fool but no body ever looks at why people are cutting the fool. And anybody can talk about people cutting the fool, but nobody has a solution for people cutting the fool. Look, some people are always going to cut the fool. Talking about them isn't going to stop them.
whiterosebuddy
Booky, please share..why are folks cutting the fool. What is the solution for folks cutting the fool, please share.
whiterosebuddy
'because it is US who are disproportionately impoverished, maybe?
wasteacher
Yes, for no good reason. We are not inferior. God endowed us with the same attributes as any other race. We really don't have any excuses, but there is a segment of our population that has no desire to excel in academics. Many young men think they are going to be drafted into the NFL or NBA, or become rappers. If you could hear the rap music blasting on the parking lot in the mornings when the parents drop the kids off....I do not give my kids little wayne. They have to sneak and get it, and if I find it in my house, I'm throwing it out. They don't care how many Obama posters we put in the hallway, they are going to walk around the school ass out. Don't parents buy those pants that are falling off? I don't care what my kids have. If I don't approve I'm going to dispose of it. If they don't want to see me turn into the wolf (wo)man, they will bury it deep so I don't find it. Some parents don't know any better than to collude in the deception of their children.
Do you think you're a lazy, shiftless, baby making negro who steals shuffles jives and steals? Because Obama never said any of those things. Methinks you're projecting.
People who don't like being told what to do, are usually doing something they have no business doing.
Booky
Grown people don't usually like other grown people telling them what they should or should have any business doing either.

NAW. If the shoe fits, wear it. If it don't fit, why you whinning? Obviously, you are not the audience he was speaking to. But there are many others he was and for GOOD reason.
Booky
Uh, I'm not the one whining whiterosebuddy. I'm speaking loud and clear without stuttering.
It sounds like he hit a nerve with you. I thought a lot of the things he said needed to be said. And they need to be continually said until certain people get it.
I'm usually in aggreement with Ta-Nehisi, but not on this one. I just posted that he shoulda watched the speech before kinda dismissing in just from reading the NYT play by play.
Cause if I hadn't seen or heard it myself, and I had listened to Lou Dobbs' comments, or even the POC over at Hardball, I woulda had the same notions as he did.
I contend that no one who honestly saw & heard that speech could dismiss it or compare it to the "Father's Day" speech.
Booky
I heard the speech and I can compare it to the Father's Day speech, i.e. take away the X-Box, turn off the TV, attend parent teacher conference. As if we need to be told over and over to do those things. It's as if we aren't doing those things. It's like we are the children and POTUS is the daddy.
whiterosebuddy
U r in the minority amongst your own...and you damn well know it..so stop your kvetching and recognize reality!
There is a whole generation out there who do not have your advantages and do not have mothers that do take the xbox or turn off the TV..they are teen moms!!
He spoke to that majority..if you are in the talented tenth..count your blessings and quit whinning as if you are who the message was for..you not.

Geeez!!

I can't lie y'all. I started to do my "God Is Trying To Tell You Something," jump up, turn around, hop on one-leg, church pivot when he ended with those words from James Weldon Johnson's Negro National Anthem!!! Oh chile! I almost passed out in my pew.
i'm sorry u guys but i have a problem.....i was just over at pam's house blend and the reaction 2 the POTUS speech was more like he didn't say enuff bout LGBT and that they are tired of the lip service he has been giving the LGBT community....i'm so so sorry but maybe my priorities are messed up and twisted, but i'm more concerned with the economy, whether i will still have a job in a couple of months and the war in afghanastan and whats going on in Iraq than who marries who.....i guess i'm messed up in the head!!!!
Alexander2
I am so sick of black "liberals" running to Pam's House Blend to know what they should think. Who funds Pam's blog? I'll tell you, all the money comes from Pam's rich white lesbian partner. Pam can sit her fat ass up in the mountains of North Carolina, smoke weed, and talk all kinds of cracker shit. You wanna know what black gay people thing, stop going to Pam. She is lesbian first, second, third and fourth. Ask Pam her race and she'll answer "lesbian."
Ooh______, gangstuh. Hasn't Pam guest blogged here at JJP? Pam may have to come in here and defend herself. I promise to be quiet and just observe...catfight-catfight, lmao.

LMAO....damn...this would be a good one too!! Alexander just threw a jab and a uppercut...that was brutal.

Filling in the blank with SNAP! cause it was definitely gangstuh.
I've had the (dis)pleasure of "debating" some of the people at PHB. They really do thing they and they alone are the reason Obama's president and it's their ass he should kiss.
PBomb
Please stop reading Pam's House Blend. They are suffering from the case of "teh stoopid".
Read www.lawdork.net. He's a gay attorney who has some sense. He just posted the whole entire Obama speech. He also suggested a reat black gay blog to read is Rod 2.0.com Rod unlike Pam has some sense.
RobM
Thanks for more sources.
lamh32
Maybe you should post that LZ Granderson article over on CNN at Pam's House Blend
lAMH32 she already posted it....and she dissed the hell out of it
lamh32
Here's what I wanna know, is Pam's partner white or black?
I ask cause it just seems to me that black members of the LGBT community who are dating a white LGBT person seemed to buy into the "diversity" within the gay movement.
I'm assuming here, but I think it's because I don't think they are as immersed in the Black LGBT community as they are in the white LGBT community.
Like we don't have Black leaders married to white women....What is the difference? We love O a little more because of Michelle, but if he had a white wife we'd still take him rather than leave him. I have to agree that "they" deserve their rights and the hemming, hawing and butt draging just isn't going to cut it. O is more to the right than I originally read him to be, and I'm not feeling it. I'm hoping he will move on it after he sees how things go with the national health care battle.
You really raised a valid question. Makes me wonder what's worse to a JJP Sistah:
Black Man + White Women
OR____________
Black Man + Black Woman + Black Woman + ... + Black Woman.
It's pretty clear that a whoremonger who stays within his own race gets more respect than a monogamous male who gets with someone outside of his race...just an observation.
Of course, my preference is chocolate--darker the berry the sweeter the juice. Even some of that light, mixed chocolate gets the side-eye from me because I can taste the cracka in them with a kiss.

Hold on, Cousin. Can you guarantee that you are 100% pure African? If not, there is a great liklihood that your have some white ancestors. I appreciate/respect your personal preferences but no one can help what they are mixed with, and I doubt if you can taste any crackers (unless it's right after a meal). I'm saying all this to say that, imo, your comment disses our diversity.
I'm use to seeing brothers with white and other women, especially among my relatives. I'm over it. I'd rather see a brother with a white woman than being a Marion Berry. I also support sisters who go outside the race rather than to share a man or do without.
whiterosebuddy
You all the way right..we went from African, to nigra, to colored, to negro, to black, to AA.
And ain't no such thing as an AA that ain't got white ancestors, even if we don't know who they are to claim.
Our color spectrum don't lie..from whiter than white with blue eyes to black as ebony with deep brown eyes.
feel ya!
whiterosebuddy
"It's pretty clear that a whoremonger who stays within his own race gets more respect than a monogamous male who gets with someone outside of his race...just an observation."
Dayum skippy...but it is getting real hard with desegreation and all with black sons..many of my friends have colorless daughterinlaws.
Justice58
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Webb, Webb
Whatcha doing up this late? Well, it's late where I am--- 2:05 in the morning and I'm heading to bed.
Goodnight.
whiterosebuddy
Nite Justice...sweet dreams!

Please NAME a black LEADER married to a white woman.
If he is more to the right than you thought, you weren't listenign during the primaries...if you had..there would be no surprises.
wasteacher
Frederick Douglas (ducking while simultaneously giving a devilish sideways grin). OK, whiterosebooty, you win. I recant the statement, "Like we don't have Black leaders married to white women...." I recant it in the name of...cheeses. I recant it from bow to stern and from tip to top. I recant it cause I'm not too proud to admit when I'm wrong. I recant it, cause that's how I roll.
I had a hard time coming up with National Black Leaders. Theres' Obama (of course) though I think he would disagree with the title "Black leader." Theres' Sharpton, Jesse Jackson (kinda). Then there is ....Help me out.
whiterosebuddy
LOL LOL..it's all good!!
kalagenesis
Julian Bond,Kwiesi Mfume,James Earl Jones
whiterosebuddy
None of those folks were LEADERS.
Bond LED when his wife was black.
Mfume has yet to lead.
and please what did Jones EVER lead?
rikyrah
If Obama had Snowflake as a wife, he never would have made it to the U.S. Senate, let alone The White House. Let's get serious and be honest.
wasteacher
Well, I disagree, honestly and seriously, though we will never know. In my personal experience, Blacks are very tolerant and inclusive. If they didn't hold a white mama against him (even though he didn't pick his mama) I don't think a white wife would be held against him either.
whiterosebuddy
I hear ya,...but if his wife was white he would NOT be President..black women would NOT have voted for him.
And the NAME of the black LEADER married to a white woman is.....????
RobM
Define leader. I am thinking of Richard Parsons
whiterosebuddy
Parsons leads a corporation...I was more referring to someone the black masses look to for leadership.
Despite his wife& him having 3 children; Parson's babymomma is black.
lamh32
thank you!!!!
It's amazing how many people don't want to admit that. Particularly since more Black women voted than Black men.
And you KNOW we ain't playing that "snowflake" shizknit.
whiterosebuddy
Pam's blend folks sound like they like rain more than sunshine.
We here at JJP do not have receding hope...we are trudging on..carrying the torch and will triumph over all obstacles, barriers and wrongheaded mindsets.
Did you see Pat Buchanan show his ass on Rachel???? "100 percent of White men made this country" Damn.
Justice58
Pat Buchanan is a race-baiting sob and MSNBC love it and Pat know it. He doesn't give a rats ass.
MSNBC need to be boycotted until Pat is gone. They understand money!
whiterosebuddy
He's race baiting...back to Nixon and the Southern strategy!!
spirit_55z
Yes, and MSNBC is complicit.
How dare this white cracka say white men made this country, when these muthafuckers brutalized our black ancestors and used their blood, sweat, and tears to build this country.
Pat Buchanan need to be FIRED.
whiterosebuddy
Since they not gone fire him...give some balance.
We need Farrakhan up there to speak whenEVER Buchanan does!
Match his racism point to point...THAT would be fair and balanced when you wanna come from the race bent.
Hell, even Sharpton could match wits with Buchanan, he would creme his but..wipe up the studio.,
Co-Sign 100% - Buchanan's face would turn crayon red. However, I do not consider Minister Farrakhan to be a racist.
whiterosebuddy
I don't either...but he will match Pat's racistm..point by point and show him to be the racist that he is...we talking about talking about race...not that Farrakhan is racist...Farrakhan knows our history, knows world history and he WELL knows American RACE history.
Feel me?
O what testicular fortitude Farrakhan would bring, withOUT fear of being branded!!
Justice58
Pat Buchanan basically said America is a WHITE country and that nomination should have gone to a WHITE person because the country belongs to WHITE people 100%.
Lord, I can't hardly take it. Pat is doing what he intends to do...use racism to divide black and browns from white people.
rikyrah
clip please or transcript - either will do.
Miranda
Here's a shortened version of the clip with the racist bastard spewing his nonsense
Why not Tim Wise even? He could match wits and his white face would make him credible, to many whites who Pat's screeds resonant with but know he is wrong, but have no argument to face other whites with that spew Pat's bull.
Justice58
MSNBC wants Pat Buchanan on the show because those dirty dogs like what he says. Pat knows they're pleased...that's why he doesn't give a damn.
Booky
Right Justice58, Pat Buchanan says out loud what they say behind closed doors.
Did you know he writes for ESPN? I thought it was interesting in that all of a sudden Stephen A. is all over the dang place....and here is another guy venturing into the political arena - but he's not nearly as irritating as lil huey is (I swear I think Stephen A is trying to be huey from the boondocks)
whiterosebuddy
POlitics! Gotta give Stephen A...his props on that...but we got to diluge his email so he gets his ACT together...StephenA..don't wanna lose his BLACK card..he is a Philly brother and he will respond...post his e mail and make him GET in line!!
Yes I noticed that, Miranda. I don't know much about him, never heard of him before this.
whiterosebuddy
He is a sports guru/nerd...he knows sports and does a good job with that..he is out of his water with politics...that why we need to get his email..he don't know politics.
Why dont they just ask the head of the Aryan Nation to come and give political commentary too? I dont understand why they dont just flat out get the grand wizard to come on.
isonprize
LET THE CHURCH SAY AMEN!! Lawd Ha Mercy!!
Now some of them NAACPers need to really, REALLY think about some of what PBO just said. Because if they keep up the same ol' same ol' there won't be NAACP 100 years from now.
Miranda
So what you're saying is....like the backsliders up on the front pew? The ones that be at the juke joint on Sat night listening to Denise Lasalle, smoking Newports and drinkin brown liquor, but praising the Lord on Sun morning? The ones that dont really be listening to what pastor saying? Them? lol
Wellll!!!! Somebody betta pass me my fan, hold my bible and be prepared to help me loosen my girdle, cause I'm about to jump, turn about and pass the hell out! (By the way, don't let any of dem kids run out of the sanctuary with my wig y'all. Cause I saw what they did on Wednesday night when sista Bernice fell out at the prayer meeting , and y'all know that wadn't right!)
whiterosebuddy
Yes! THAT's what I'm talking bout!!!
"We need to tell the devil, he ain't got a chance. Jesus can work it out.Tell your neightbor Jesus can work it out, while we trying to figure it out/ Jesus can work it out, work it out. Give it over to the Lord, he can work it out! I prayed and prayed then I stop worryin about it, and gave it over to Jesus..tell u what u oughta do till your next paycheck!"
Justice58
That's songs from the moaning bench wrb! You know how services begin? But lemme find something else. I guess the kind that make mJohnso27 jump and pass out? :)
whiterosebuddy
Guurl, when I moan...I moan with inspiration! Sometimes I feel like a motherless child..but when I hear praise in song...I feel like I have 5 mommas!
Justice58
ah say i'm soooo glaa-aad to be here.....say IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII'MMM soooooo glad to be he-err-ere...
Giving honor to God, the Pastor, Pulpit, dear Christian friends...
We come to have Church today. We come to have a good time in the Lord. We come to lift him up and praise his name. Can the Church say Amen?
LMAO, I see ya'll brought ya'll shouting shoes tonight! Saints started shouting the moment they entered the sanctuary at the Mount Obama Multi-denominational Chuch.
Justice58
Webb,
Where've you been? Webb, you would've been speaking in tongues!! There was church in here tonight!
