The POTUS doesn't owe the Cambridge PD an apology. If anyone deserves an apology. Its Henry Gates. These racist ass pigs need to be fired. Why has'nt that racist ass Pat Buchanan apologized for that bullshit he said last week. Now Obama wants to have a beer with the cop and Gates? Man that some bullshit! I know that he's trying to be race neutral, but lets be for real! This is Amerikkka! There comes a time when you have to man-up.
Well, i am lazy and sleepy, have no time to look around, if … sorry.

A Dr. on CNN just interviewed a white couple who has sextuplets like jon & Kate plus 8. So he is all fawning over the kids and talking about how cute they are. How many Black couples do you know who have been thru fertility treatment and have these large # multiples? I'm starting to think that this is not as accidental as they want us to believe. The only thing is that many of these children have diminished mental capacity and/or birth defects.I barely know any Black people with triplets let alone 6 at a time, and I'm a teacher. I smell a rat. Pass the tinfoil hat.

Well, there is such a thing as professional Blacks with health insurance benefits. How are these poor white people affording the treatments? The couple they showed today had jobs as (mother) part-time medical assistant and (father) part-time pharmaceutical sales. Maybe white people are getting the white supremacy discount.

Birthers bring ratings. Ratings bring money.
At this point, it's time to start boycotting the sponsors of any show, station, newspaper, politician etc. that supports the birthers and tea partiers and race baiters. The Sean Hannitys, Rush Limbaughs and their wannabees have now ramped up the rhetoric to "the Niggas tryna destroy the police." The police are damn near gods in this country, and Hannity, Limbaugh and their ilk know what they are doing as they are trying to egg on a lone triggerman to take out Obama. I'm hearing too many stories about white people who can't get at Obama so they're taking out their rage on random, everyday black people. Any channel and their sponsors that boosts these people up (CNN, FOX, MSNBC ETC) needs to be boycotted.
Georgia based banks are getting shut down at a rapid pace.
WASHINGTON — Regulators on Friday shut six banks in Georgia and a small bank in New York state, raising to 64 the number of federally insured banks to fail this year.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. was appointed receiver of the banks: six bank subsidiaries of Security Bank Corp., based in Macon, Ga.; and Waterford Village Bank of Clarence, N.Y. With the latest closings, 16 Georgia banks have failed this year, more than in any other state. Most of the failures have involved banks in the Atlanta area, where the collapse of the real estate market brought economic dislocation. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/200907...

The white people who are defending crowley know they are lying. I've seen plenty of white folks cuss out the popo for something even as simple as a traffic stop. Hell, wasn't there outrage not that long ago about a old white lady bing tasered because she gave lip to a cop and attacked him? I know they would not be having it if a cop showed up to kissinger's or hell cheney's door to arrest them for getting "uppity"
I haven't read all the comments on this issue, so I may be repeating something from someone else.
I could write an essay, but I don't have the time or the inclination today.
All I'll say is that the President of the United States mentioned racial profiling in a prime-time press conference.
I'm going to say that again:
The President of the United States mentioned racial profiling in a prime-time press conference.
As any of us who have been profiled know, only people who have been profiled will believe you when you tell them you've been racially profiled.
Especially if you're a Black man driving.
I don't think for one second that the President slipped up. I believe he did and said exactly what he wanted to do and say knowing full well he could come back in a day or two and re-address the controversy with less bluntness.
In all of his remarks about the situation, he's been speaking without notes or a teleprompter. He's been speaking from his heart. From his experience. But also as President of the United States.
Racial profiling is on the nation's mind because the President put it there.
This is no small thing.
Especially if you're a Black man.
Myth
How dare Obama not remain "race-neutral" and rear his nappy head as a black man!! Betta apologize and get back into that race-neutral mode if you want Iowa to keep standing for you Mr. POTUS.
whiterosebuddy
You are dead right Craig...President KNOWS.
Also, let's not forget that as a State legislator Obama was the one who negotiated with the police unions. He is not in foreign waters. He has transacted this type of negotiation before. Obama was the one responsible for the legislation that requires all questioning to be taped of officers/suspects in IL...that was no small feat.
I submit, it is safe to argue...President Obama knows precisely what he is doing.
To wit:
Obama's bill to measure racial profiling earned overwhelming support
"Obama's bill, which commissioned a study on the race of motorists pulled over by police in traffic stops, passed the Illinois Senate on a 58-0 vote and the House by 113-2. Obama crafted the bill at a time when he was preparing to run for the U.S. Senate and trying to raise his statewide profile.
In very brief comments, he said the measure was designed to "strike a balance between concerns of the community with respect to racial profiling and the concerns of law enforcement in making sure that they can carry out their functions."
A Republican co-sponsor of the measure, state Sen. Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale, explained in a 2007 Chicago Tribune interview that Obama worked long and hard to win over a law enforcement community that was initially skeptical of the idea.
In the year leading up to the bill's passage, Dillard said Obama had regular meetings early on Monday mornings at the Thompson Center in Chicago's Loop with then-Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan, a Republican; law enforcement representatives and others to hammer out details of the legislation.
The measure itself did not mandate any reforms. Rather, it established a tracking mechanism for police across the state to record the race of drivers stopped for traffic infractions over a number of years."
This was just 6 years ago in 2003...he has had a metoric rise..and it is safe to assume he has a plan!!
"In 2003, Obama had two major tasks: writing a law to require police to record their interrogations of murder suspects and negotiating a measure to study whether Illinois police treat motorists differently because of their race.
In both cases, Obama stepped in on issues earlier championed by other legislators. House Speaker Michael Madigan (D) tried numerous times to pass a videotape interrogation measure, but couldn’t get it out of his own chamber, while Sen. Rickey Hendon, another Chicago Democrat, was a vocal proponent of the racial-profiling study.
Deep flaws in Illinois’ death penalty system that sent more than a dozen innocent men to death row put pressure on lawmakers to enact several reforms, including the recording requirement for interrogations.
Leaders of the new Democratic majorities made clear that they wanted to move ahead with both interrogation recording and the racial profiling study, clearing a path for Obama.
But he also made concessions that eased law enforcement’s concerns, according to people involved in those talks. For example, on the recording requirement, Obama helped police departments get money from the state to buy video equipment and specified that murder cases wouldn’t unravel because of a faulty video recorder, said Laimutis Nargelenas, deputy director of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police."
The President KNOWS what he is doing and folks need to stop second guessing him!!!
Angelar
Craig..no white president could ever make the kind of statement that our president did today....that is just reality.
As a Native American who has seen plenty of my family pulled into police situations because of their ethnicity....your comments strike to the heart of police vs people of color.
Of course, I take exception to your comment about "especially if you're a Black man" I would say "especially if you're a person of color."

The President of the United States mentioned racial profiling in a prime-time press conference.
It really is surreal when you put it like that.
Monie
Yes...
And what's even more interesting, it was 20 years ago that Spike Lee brought us "Do the Right Thing" a provocative and thought-provoking movie about race relations, minority interaction with police and police brutality....and the very movie that our President took his then future wife on their first date.
ANd now, not even 6 months after NFL player Ryan Moats's unfortunate brush with a policeman, we have another scenario with Henry Louis Gates.
Sometimes all I can do is look around and SIGH.
The more things CHANGE, the more they stay the same.

Crowley, Gates camps pleased by president's phone calls
Calls by President Obama to Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and to Sergeant James M. Crowley inviting the men to meet with Obama at the White House were welcomed by both camps today. Harvard law professor Charles J. Ogletree Jr., one of Gates's lawyers, praised the president, a former student of his, for calling both men.
"I think the president has taken the right approach by trying to make sure we move forward," said Ogletree. "He's always had the ability to negotiate difficult conversations, and his steps today are an important step in the right direction. I think the president has given his assessment, which makes a lot of sense, and, however you feel about it, it has reduced the temperature and allowed everyone to move forward in a constructive way."
Crowley was also pleased by the call, according to a fellow officer who asked not to be identified because he is not authorized to speak publicly about the issue. "Jimmy said, 'I'd be happy to come to the White House and sit down with you and Gates and have a beer,' " the veteran Cambridge officer said. "The president said he was acceptable to that."
Kinda makes ya think of the scene in MJ's "Beat It" video when MJ gets between the two gang leaders, and they all break out in fly dance routine.

I hope those who are complaining about Obama's gesture don't lose sight of the fact that Obama sees this as an opportunity to move the conversation about race forward and although it WASN'T really an apology an apology would be a small price to pay in order to achieve that. Also, don't underestimate the symbolism of inviting Crowley to the White House to share a beer: it speaks to a certain demographic that's been known to support Republicans. Its a very shrewd move politically.

He made a statement right when this first happened....said the cops were wrong for arresting Dr. Gates.
Prosecutors say the arrests were part of a "dual-tracked" investigation. Prosecutors accuse one man of dealing in human kidneys from Israeli donors for transplant for a decade
Acting US Attorney Ralph Marra told reporters there were 29 suspects on what he termed the "public corruption" side of the investigation, including the politicians.
On the other side, he said, there were 15 suspects in connection with alleged international money-laundering, including the rabbis and their "associates".
Prosecutors accuse one man of dealing in human kidneys from Israeli donors for transplant for a decade.
It is alleged that "vulnerable people" would give up a kidney for $10,000 (£6,000) and these would then be sold on for $160,000 (£97,000).
Organ harvesting and trafficking are simply one of our open secrets.
wasteacher
If any of ya'll know someone who wants to buy a kidney, hook a teacher up. I'll give a 10k discount, and they can get it for 150k plus medical expenses.
I think hospitals sell the organs that they get from our murdered youth in and out of prison. Who would know and tell?
Who asked today why it's wrong for people to see kidneys? Dr. Nancy, I think. She said that people sell eggs (you can get $6 to $10k) and lease their wombs for surrogacy. I would much rather sell a kidney than an egg. You know your kidney isn't going to come back to you one day wanting to meet you and see family photos, and potentially suing you unless you surrender your health records to them (because they have rights). Then you'll be like, "Damn egg, you found me. I thought they weren't going to reveal my true identity to you." And they will be like, "My name isn't egg so stop calling me that. The more you call me that the more I will want to sue your estate as an heir upon your death, so tell your other kids to get ready." Then you will be like, "Wow,egg errr, friend, I never dreamed that one day you would spend years hunting me down. I just needed a car and happened to see an ad in the paper so I sold an egg and here you are." Finally egg says, "Well, you should have known it was a possibility and you should have been ready for it." Then your son walks in and you discover that they know each other. You feel all weird and yucky inside. You interrupt and tell your son, "This is your kinda sister," and pray that they don't have carnal knowledge of each other. You gotta love bioethics.
morphus
"I think hospitals sell the organs that they get from our murdered youth in and out of prison. Who would know and tell?"
LA and DC were found to be harvesting black youths for money. Minister Louis Farrakhan in 1994 raised the issue about DC, but no one believed him.
Today, many states have an opt-in organ harvesting option (presumed consent).
Oh, and biotech solved the "egg" problem, they can take the "egg" from an aborted fetus and fertilize it. Only prob medical ethicist are trying to figger out what to tell "egg". They do not think its a good idea to tell "egg" your mom was never born.
wasteacher
This is really amazing news! I wouldn't think that eggs from aborted fetuses would be developed enough to use. Wow, I'm not sure I want to know about all the frankenstein stuff they are doing, cause you know they are doing some frankenstein stuff. Keith O did a bit making fun of some politicians a few weeks ago. The politicians were trying to get a law passed that would prevent the mixing of animals and humans or weird animal combinations. But maybe they know something we don't know. Keith made it seem like they were stupid, but creating a freak of nature in a lab is effed up and potentially cruel if they or it is going to kept in captivity for the duration of it's life.
morphus
Its called "Frankenfoods". Yeah, splicing the good genes from the rats into our food chain.

After listening and watching Mr. Gates speak about the issue I've come to the conclusion he has a point. However, the President should not have gotten involved it was a local issue between Mr. Gates and Mr. Crowley. Now, it has become an national story thanks to the media and one I find not worth of coverage. There are people poor minorities who are treated much worse then Mr. Gates that will never get the kind of coverage this dumb ass story has. In the end hearing Mr. Gates tale does not move racial profiling along but only ties it to political pundits looking to take down Obama.
whiterosebuddy
You aRE WRONG.
"However, the President should not have gotten involved it was a local issue between Mr. Gates and Mr. Crowley."
This is FALSE. The charges had already been dismissed. And GHWBush commented on the Rodney King case, while it was ongoing. After seeing the video he said it was sickening.
"There are people poor minorities who are treated much worse then Mr. Gates that will never get the kind of coverage this dumb ass story has"
First off Obama HAS defended 'poor miniorities' against racial profiling as a State Senator when he sponsored anti racial profiling legislation.
"In the end hearing Mr. Gates tale does not move racial profiling"

You are simply uninformed and do not know the facts, bkgrd or outcomes.

"In the end hearing Mr. Gates tale does not move racial profiling"

malletgirl02
I agree. I think the racial profiling issue has been long be swept under the rug. Obama's answer has brought it out to the forefront. Seriously, do you remember any president making a statement on racial profiling ever?
whiterosebuddy
Obama pioneered racial profiling legislation in IL in 2003/
malletgirl02
Thanks, I did not know that.
EdnaMae
I have to say I agree, this is much ado about little in my book, and, its going to be a red hot issue all weekend long now that Obama has taken the bait and got involved without knowing all the facts and now its all coming home to roost since we all know white America is 100% pro-cop no matter what, good as they claim this guy is or bad, to which they seem to feel there is no such thing as a bad cop since they all just want to help and protect (typed with heavy sarcasm.).
That said, young black men are harassed, finger printed and a mug shot for no reason by the thousands daily in this country and hardly anyone cares. And, sadly, they get a record that's not easy to expunged and go through life with the label of having been arrested, those are the people the media should be focused on, not Gates and Crowley. And, why it is that blacks for the most part fear the police more than the thug on the corner, that speaks volumes, but, is never heard or addressed.
happycozy
Did you hear Obama's comments this afternoon? The people involved seem to want to move on--even the Cambridge Police Union seems happy with the outcome. The only people who will continue this will be the Rush Limbaughs, and let's face it, if it wasn't this there, would be some other outrage--like Obama's birth certificate or something.
