....." Last year, Abu Ali requested two books written by Obama: "Dreams from My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope." "But prison officials, citing guidance from the FBI, determined that passages in both books contain information that could damage national security. "A prison spokeswoman referred questions to the FBI, where a spokeswoman was looking into the matter Thursday evening. "The documents detailing the prison's rejection of Obama's books are included in court papers for a resentencing hearing scheduled later this month for Abu Ali, a U.S. citizen. "The rejection is just one indication of the harsh conditions imposed on inmates at the supermax prison, according to Abu Ali's lawyer, Joshua Dratel ..."
but I haven't seen much about it elsewhere. The kids getting kicked out of the pool made longer headlines, and should have. But this story and the story of the Chicago cemetery should also have bigger play. By the way, please forgive my lack of url-fu.
So, apparently Palin has said that she's willing to campaign for Democrats. Personally, I think she's been campaigning for Democrats since at least September 2008.
After watching Anderson Cooper interview President Obama at the slave castle, lo and behold, I had to endure watching Haitians with black child slaves. With 27 million slaves on the planet it seems deliberate that they would choose black on black slavery.

Al Kamen from WAPO on the Ensign affair and Coburn's comments.....lol
"Speaking of life after your political career tanks, l'Affaire Ensign had been briefly overshadowed by Gov. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) and his taxpayer-funded search for a love ranch on the pampas so he could be with his Argentine girlfriend. But last week it zoomed back to the forefront.
In fact, Sen. John Ensign's sexual affair with former campaign staffer Cynthia Hampton, the wife of his former chief of staff -- and news last week that the Nevada Republican's parents magnanimously gave the Hamptons $96,000 "out of concern" for the couple and their kids -- now looks a far better bet to get us through the traditional summer news doldrums.
However, even though Ensign himself claimed "extortion" to describe Doug Hampton's requests for money, it is unclear whether anyone in the prosecutorial world is actually taking a hard look at the goings-on.
Everyone's conduct in the matter may raise questions, we were told, but it is far from clear whether there is sufficient basis to initiate a criminal investigation. (There's still the matter of an alleged severance payment to Cynthia Hampton by Ensign of at least $25,000. That payment was not reported, as required by law, to the Federal Election Commission.)
It's also unclear if there is going to be any action by the fearsome Senate ethics committee. A potentially key witness, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), is a close friend of Ensign's and urged him to end the affair. But Coburn said last week he would "never" testify before the committee or in court. He noted that he counseled Ensign "as a physician" -- Coburn is an obstetrician and gynecologist -- and as an "ordained deacon," and therefore could not be compelled to testify because of doctor-patient privilege and religious privilege.
That seems pretty conclusive to us -- after all, if a guy can't trust his OB-GYN, who can he trust? But some lawyers think neither assertion, though quite creative, would stand up in court. (There's little chance at this point that the committee will haul Coburn in to testify, with or without some goofy claim of privilege.)
Even so, Coburn's got other options, perhaps better ones, we were advised. He could hustle on out and get a law degree real quick, then claim retroactive attorney-client privilege -- a recognized and formidable barrier to compelled testimony. To be absolutely bulletproof, however, he may want to marry Ensign -- they'd have to travel to Iowa -- and then rely on the ironclad spousal privilege."
Unles he's actually treating Ensign (and I don't think Ensign's body qualifies for an OB-GYN, but youneverknow), the doctor-patient privalege doesn't apply, and since he's not a priest, either, I don't think that privilage holds water.
Coburn + Congressional Subpeona = Testify or Be Locked UP in the Senate Jail.

Admittedly, a tough conversation to have. But folks of color, especially, need to have it.
And remember to change beneficiaries when changes happen in the family. Special needs trusts differ from state to state, but if you have a family member who has special health care needs, you should check with a knowledgeable attorney on how to set up a trust.
Have a will even if the only thing you own is a car. And please, PLEASE, Let people know where your papers are. Insurance, deeds, birth/marriage/death certificates, military discharge papers, etc.
I had an uncle who was a funeral director, and there is nothing worse than folks being in mourning but frantic at the same time 'cause they can't find Daddy's insurance paper... Auntie said she owned this house... Now you know Paul ain't never divorced that heifer...
OOOoooh, I could write a movie script from some of the stories he would tell.
After my grandmother passed (3 years ago,) my parents and siblings had a long UNCOMFORTABLE discussion about their LIVING WILL. Nothing creates more drama in a family than the moment you have to decide whether or not to remove a breathing tube from a parent and other family members disagree.
If not a living will, then make sure you talk with them about what their wishes are in front of another person. My parents still haven't drafted any paperwork, but my siblings and I are on the same page.
"President Obama has lit a fire under federal regulators
Taxpayers are paying the bills for eight years of indifferent, incurious oversight of the economy. President Obama is putting a new and welcome emphasis on regulatory awareness. The process is as elemental as asking questions and paying attention.
Dormant. The word turns up in descriptions of the federal government's regulatory machinery during the Bush administration.
Taxpayers, investors and consumers suffered the consequences.
Hundreds of billions of dollars have been spent or committed by the U.S. government to bail out, prop up and sustain failing enterprises after incurious regulators dozed comfortably for eight years in Washington, D.C.
A welcome change is under way — a new sensitivity to chicanery and antitrust behavior, basic impediments to the operation of a free market, with honest, measurable results......"
RobM
I am glad it is happening but I have to disagree w/ this assessment, "Taxpayers are paying the bills for eight years of indifferent, incurious oversight of the economy." The last eight years were neither indifferent nor incurious. They were deliberate and willfull. Madeoff alone tells you it was true.
A Secret Exposed -- Medicare Works Better Than Private Insurance by National Nurses Movement [Subscribe] Share this on Twitter - A Secret Exposed -- Medicare Works Better Than Private Insurance Mon Jul 13, 2009 at 01:43:30 PM PDT Nothing better symbolizes the corruption of the debate about healthcare reform than the rhetoric about "government-run" healthcare. Or, for that matter, the related argument that we need a "uniquely American" solution which precludes a public system like Medicare for all.
Two reports that notably received scant coverage from either the media or even those advocating the public plan "option" in Congress, reveal the seldom told truth.
Medicare is a "uniquely American" solution, and it works.
And THAT's why the government wants to eliminate it. Because it works better than private insurance, but then the lobbyists won't get paid if that truth gets out.

Seriously, no one who actually WORKS for a health insurer in any facet of operations will tell you differently. I tell people all the time, insurance companies are not your friends, their goal is to screw you over, believe that...its the GOAL...to SCREW YOU OVER.
spirit_55z
So true, Miranda. I worked for a long term healthcare insurance company as an RN Care Manager.
I had to review 15 pages nursing assessments on clients and decide if they would receive benefits from Cincinnati Life, Sun Life of Canada and Hewlett Packard. Folks worked hard and thought their companies health insurance was all that.
Long story short. A lot of folks were denied benefits because they didn't meet the criteria to "qualify." I can't tell you how pissed folks were when we called them with the news..... some of them said they never read the policies.... Not good, not at all.

This is exactly what Wendell Potter (Cigna whistleblower) told Bill Moyers. That interview was very informative. It just blows my mind that Americans are falling for the scare tactics AGAIN!
spirit_55z
Saw Moyers last week, and he's absolutely right.
If folks don't mobilize and fight for public healthcare, they would rather DIE in FEAR, than fight for HEALTH, for LIFE.

Housewives of Atlanta fans:
Monday, April 27, 2009 Lee Najjar, Kim Zolciak's Alleged Big Poppa, Makes An Appearance on MTV Cribs I was flipping through the channels the other day and came across Teen Cribs on MTV. This show highlights various palatial estates of very fortunate teenagers. Ironically, on the day I tuned in, the show featured the palatial mansion of Lee Najjar, alleged boyfriend of Real Housewives of Atlanta Zim Zolciak. His younger children, Jamen, a sophomore in high school and Katelin, a freshman in college, were the tour guides. All I can say is that this home is over the top! Both children are very well mannered and attractive. Katelin was a contestant in the the Miss Georgia Teen Pageant and received the Miss Congeniality Prize....watch out Sandra Bullock. She attends college in LA but flies home every weekend because it is so much fun! Jamen says that he is a music producer and has a recording studio in the home to make his music. Thus the connection to the Dallas Austin crowd.
According to http://www.homesoftherich.net,/ the 16,000 + square feet home is located on W Paces Ferry Road NW in Atlanta, GA and has a massive foyer with grand sweeping staircase (Katelin says she will walk down these steps the day she gets married), a huge ballroom, a gourmet kitchen with adjoining breakfast room, numerous bedrooms suites, a recording studio, an amazing home theater with a wrought iron door, a swimming pool, a tanning bed room, a game room with ping pong table, a gentleman's club with special filtration for smoke, a beauty and nail salon, a massage room, a moroccan room complete with a hooka pipe, a massive pool House, a basketball court, and an outdoor hibachi grill. The family cars include several Rolls Royce, Mercedes and Range Rover.
The show also cameos "Lee" ( no last name), the father who is in "real estate" and the mother, "Kim", who is very attractive and wearing massive jewelry. She is shown in the kitchen cooking, eventhough the family has a personal chef. Kim and Lee's bed features his and hers televisions under the canopy. And as Katelin says, noone can sit in Big Poppa's chair if he is at home. Take a peek.....do you think that Kim Zolciak will become the next woman of the house?
wow......just.....wow...and this is Big Poppa?? Wow....again...just wow.

From Treasury to Banks, an Ultimatum on Mortgage Relief
Talk about false advertising Fredo is tryng to strong arm mortgage lenders to adjust mortgages for homeowners. How do you strong arm people whom you were in charge of, haven't held responsible, had to change their diapers and then tell them they're bad boys. You gave up your cudgel when you let them give back the TARP money and didn't get paid on the warrants. If I was a banker I bitch slap this litle boy all the way around the Treasury building and dare him to do something.
Soldier: Obama not U.S. born, can't send me to Afghanistan
U.S. Army Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook is seeking a federal court order to stall and eventually prevent an upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.
In the 20-page document — filed July 8 with the United States District Court, Middle District of Georgia — Cook's California-based attorney, Orly Taitz, asks the court to consider granting his client's request based upon Cook's belief that President Barrack Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and is therefore ineligible to serve as commander-in-chief of U.S Armed Forces.
Cook further states he "would be acting in violation of international law by engaging in military actions outside the United States under this President’s command, and that Plaintiff would thus be simultaneously unable to perform his duties in good Rule 65(b) Application for Temporary Restraining Order 22 conscience and yet be simultaneously subjecting himself to possible prosecution as a war criminal by the faithful execution of these duties."
Ya know what - he may be a major but you're right - that fucker better remember who's the COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF and i guarantee you HIS commanding officer be it a Lt. Colonel, (full) Colonel or any one of the starred generals - his ass can be booted out just as easily as some punk-ass private.

BWA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll have to do a lil research on percentage of folks who have been prescribed Psychotropic meds since November 4, 2008.
NEW YORK, July 12 (Reuters) - When U.S. President Barack Obama took his wife, Michelle, to a Broadway play by African American playwright August Wilson about a black father's search for freedom, ticket sales for the production spiked.
As the presidential visit cast a spotlight on Wilson's revival, playwrights and theater observers say both Obama's election and more open theaters and audiences have helped bring more stories of black culture to the New York stage this year.
Both on Broadway and off-Broadway, plays and musicals about black culture or issues of race are being praised and more productions are in the works......"

OK I am checking out Drop Dead Diva because I found out Maragret Cho is on it. this show is going to be useless unless they unleash MUUUUUULLLLLAAAAANNNNN.
I saw that when it happened! It was COMEDY! David was looking like Mike Myers looked after Kanye said that Bush didn't care about black people. And then here go Tamran saying that she's certain the woman was sorry about saying that. Heffa, please! I would've loved it if the Firedoglake woman would've said, "Hell, no I'm not sorry and I'd do it again!". LOL!
This little face is precious. And you get the impression it's straight home to read.
My granddaughter just called me to tell me something. Suddenly, totally unrelated she says: "I'm 4." I said, "No you're not. You're 3." Her: "Oh. Wait, wait. What, Mom? Oh, yeah. I'm 3."
Yeah - I know - might not much sense, but I just LOVE little conversations like these.
Thanks for this. Got alot of reading to do when I get home.

From POLITICALINACTION.COM
Monday, July 13, 2009 Throw them an anvil.... When your opponent is drowning and looking for a life preserver, throw them an anvil. What makes President Obama so dangerous for the future of the Republican party is that he gets this, and that is why he nominated Sonya Sotomayor. Arguments can be made that Obama hasn't really accomplished anything domestically of substance yet. Internationally is a completely different story, where I believe he has exceeded all expectations for a liberal Democrat. He has not only been able to soften our image and repair our relationships around the world, but also be extremely aggressive in the places that matter...Pakistan and Afghanistan. But domestically, he has spent the first few months either keeping the country from falling off a cliff, which is not progress, but also laying the groundwork for future gains....i.e...things that may not come.
But in this critical time where Obama is laying the groundwork for changes like healthcare and energy independence, which the Republicans and their business partners on Wall Street vehemently oppose, the Republicans are no where to be found. Not only do they lack all credibility because of last 8 years, but every time they seem to be getting any momentum some scandal pops up to ensure the public doesn't warm to their party. I mean, John Ensign had his parents pay off his mistress while Mark Sanford was 'hiking the Appalacian trail'. Those are two huge scandals involving infidelity and the 'party of family values'. The long point I'm trying to make is that the Republican party is clearly flailing, by their own doing, which brings me to Obama's Supreme Court nominee.
President Obama knew the Republicans would overreach and accuse her over being a whackjob liberal racist, which would further alienate their party from mainstream America. Most Americans don't give a damn about this Supreme court nominee, but the Republicans have hyped it so much by demonizing her, that they paid attention today to see what all the fuss was about. What did they find out? That she is a boring, hard working nerd who busted her butt to get where she is. Sotomayor has a great story, comes across as incredibly humble, and shows that she is not anything like the Republican caricature of her. Sonya Sotomayor was the perfect Supreme Court nominee to prevent the Republicans from clawing their way back into contention, and President Obama knew it. But because the Republicans have yet to realize America threw them out because of their ideas and competence, they overreached and dug their hole deeper. posted by Brian Francis at 5:57 PM
O yes, it just keeps getting sweeter for MY President. The stars are aligned for his greatness and for his foes to meet untimely (yet politically well-timed) demise.
Anyone else notice how Cheney, came out running his mouth fronting off Barack, and now what? Lo and behold we learn he ordedered the CIA not to inform Congress and that is a clear violation of the National Security ACT which says Congress must be kept fully and accurately informed.
Another sucker getting ready to bite the dust. Cheney is going down. And he is going down because of how those GOPrs road Holders' ass in his confirmation hearing about that Rich pardon. Holder was professionally embarassed and clearly acknowledged it was an error in judgement...so what does that mean. It means despite Obama not wanting to re=hash all the Bush errors & torture...HOLDER is ready to appoint a special prosecutor. Holder is like 'never again on my watch' and he will press ahead full steam....to demonstrate his independence from the executive branch.
The irony is, that the person who carried water for the Rich pardon was none other than Rahm Emanuel. Rahm may have bulldozed Holder, under Clinton...but Holder will not be his pawn this time around, when Rahm comes running interference for Obama.
O woe be onto you who set out to do Barack H. Obama ...wrongly and unjustly.
LOVIN it!!

Hey folks! Show some love to Cullen Jones, broke the American record in the 50 meter freestyle!
Cullen Jones and Garrett Weber-Gale walked to lanes four and five in all-body black suits with old Western music blaring over the loudspeaker. This was a duel. A good old-fashioned one-on-one race. A swim-off. The winner would make the World Championships in Rome.
"You kind of get that riled-up feeling,'' Jones said. Jones won with a 21.41, an American record for the 50-meter freestyle, ahead of Weber-Gale's 21.70. Both men swam a 21.55 on Thursday night, tying for second and causing the swim-off. Since that night, Jones said the other swimmers kept asking him about him and Weber-Gale's race. They couldn't wait to watch the rare duel. Before the race, Jones said he hyped himself up a little more. He channeled Muhammad Ali, thinking he was invincible and even did a little shuffle on the pool deck.
Away from competition, Jones, who helps minorities learn to swim through the Make A Splash Foundation, calls himself as humble as possible. Just not before duels like Saturday's.
