Minority Broadcasters In Danger Of Extinction, Ask Geithner For Help
Fourteen minority broadcasters sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner Monday asking for financial assistance.
In the current economic situation, "minority-owned broadcasters are close to becoming an extinct species," they said in the letter. They also noted that the percentage of broadcasting companies owned by minorities is in the low single digits.
The broadcasters called on the Treasury to institute a program similar to the recent Auto Supplier Support Program, which would increase the flow of credit to broadcast companies. They also asked Geithner to consider issuing government-backed loans.
The letter comes on the heels of a similar one from House leadership in June, including James Clyburn (D-SC), Barney Frank (D-MA), Charlie Rangel (D-NY) and Ed Towns (D-NY).
'Jane Roe' Arrested at Supreme Court Hearing By Paul Kane Washington Post Staff Writer Monday, July 13, 2009; 5:09 PM
The woman at the center of the Supreme Court's landmark abortion rights ruling was arrested today at the confirmation hearing for Sonia Sotomayor among a wave of anti-abortion protesters who lined the sidewalks outside the Senate office buildings and several of whom made it into the hearing room and disrupted in an attempt to disrupt the proceedings.
Norma McCorvey, 61, of Texas, better known as "Jane Roe" in the famous Roe v. Wade case from January 1973, was arrested after she and another protester started yelling during the opening statement of Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.), according to Capitol Police. McCorvey, whose pursuit of the right to access to abortion in the early 1970s led to the ruling that has been a pivotal part of every Supreme Court nomination process since, eventually become a leading opponent of the procedure.
Sgt. Kimberly Schneider of the Capitol Police said McCorvey and Francis Mahoney, 68, of Florida were charged with unlawful conduct for disrupting Congress, the third and fourth such arrests the police made during the more than five-hour proceedings. McCorvey was part of the group of protesters outside the Hart Senate Office Building throughout the day, a gathering led by Randall Terry, the former head of Operation Rescue, an organization dedicated to ending abortion.
The last two rows of the hearing room were reserved for about 50 members of the public, who rotate into the hearings for short intervals and then must be escorted out to allow other citizens to view the historic proceedings. McCorvey and Mahoney were part of a group being escorted out as Franken was praising the service of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.), a staunch supporter of the Roe decision. Kennedy left the Judiciary Committee earlier this year, making this the first Supreme Court confirmation fight without his presence since 1965.
When McCorvey and Mahoney started shouting, they were quickly removed from the room. Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.), Judiciary Committee chairman, banged the gavel on the crowd for the third time today.
Isn't it amazing when one gets the right to make a choice for oneself and maybe didn't like the results of that choice.....They want to deny anyone else the same opportunity for choice that they had?

The New Black Panthers are in the sights of the GOP
Key House Republicans are charging Attorney General Eric Holder of playing politics at the Justice Department.
Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) said Holder has ignored at least three letters sent over the past month from Republicans demanding to know why Justice dismissed charges of voter intimidation filed against two members of the “New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense” (NBPP).
NBPP National Chairman Milik Zulu Shabazz and party member Jerry Jackson both faces charges for violating the Voting Rights Act for engaging in coercion, threats and intimidation and attempted coercion, threats, and intimidation of voters and those aiding voters at a Philadelphia polling station on November 4th, 2008.
Charges against the Black Panthers were originally filed when President George W. Bush was in power.
A spokeswoman for Justice said facts did not back up the charges, and that career officials at Justice, not political appointees, decided to drop the charges.

Heads Up! Kristinn Taylor, co-founder and spokesman of the Washington D.C. Chapter of the conservative group Free Republic is scheduled to be on MSNBC this afternoon at 3:30 PM EDT to talk with David Shuster and Tamran Hall about the viral Free Republic thread about Malia Obama.
Jesus Christ! Could the man have SHUT UP long enough to allow others to speak. He talked about only those on the right - at Free Republic, nonetheless - having standards. "The left, the democrats, the blogs, etc" are without standards, but yet the man couldn't be polite enough to allow David Schuster to respond.
That's a debate tactic, and his mike should've been cut. Seriously, if you're not grown up enough to talk like adults then don't bother.
There was something else - oh! He brought up of course Sarah Palin & her children and it being "vile" but let me tell you, insinuating that Bristol Palin got 'knocked up by Alex Rodriguez is totally different from Malia Obama being called"n*gger" and "ghetto trash" - not to mention all of it posted.
Bristol Palin & her parents were being called out on their glaring hypocrisy. There is absolutely no excuse or justification for the bullshit directed against Malia Obama.

I heard him too! He was extremely rude and defensive! Obama’s daughter was being attacked because she was born African-America. After Palin used her daughter as a political prop, her daughter was criticized because of the blatant hypocrisy of Bristol’s behavior juxtaposition the values avowed by her mother.

The children of politicians should be off limits. They are private individuals who have their own private lives.
"Voters tend to be interested in immediate gratification," Schnur says. "And if they are asked to vote for something that is appealing to them, there's no part of the package that says, 'You might like this now, but will you like it in 10 or 20 years?' "

White House to push forward with National Urban Policy Agenda After remaining out of the public eye since its creation in February, the White House Office of Urban Affairs plans on Monday to launch a public conversation to create a national urban policy agenda, said Adolfo Carrión Jr., its director.
The White House will host a daylong urban policy discussion including mayors, county executives, governors, urban policy experts, and heads of various agencies, Carrión said in a telephone interview yesterday .
President Obama is expected to address the conference and announce plans to send Carrión and other senior administration officials on a tour of American cities to discuss urban issues, Carrión said.
The conference is the first indication that the White House could back its urban policy office with the kind of muscle that Obama suggested during his campaign, before the economic collapse. He called for a new kind of urban policy to address cities and also their suburbs, and urban advocates hoped that this could be a focus of his administration's economic development approach.
"We have not had a national urban policy for decades," said Carrión. "Meanwhile, the economy has changed."
Those gathered Monday will consider local initiatives that could become best practices to emulate, with the goals of increasing the competitiveness, sustainable development and opportunity of metropolitan regions.
The conference is to present an interdisciplinary approach to urban issues and include the heads of the Departments of Labor, Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, and of the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Small Business Administration. [...]
"For too long government has operated from the top down," said Carrión. "We've always heard why does the national government send down these unfunded mandates, under funded mandates, mandates that are not necessarily universally applicable. The bottom-up approach speaks to the need for this to be flexible." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/ar...

Yawn - I have read/heard this boilerplate claptrap since the 1960s. As Miranda posted recently: Atlanta has to send money back to the feds. that was allocated in the late 1990s but not spent. Detroit has had to do the same thing with educational funds. Urban policy always boils down to the mayors asking for money, most of which they waste.
As GreenLady would say "shaking my head from side to side".

July 13, 2009 The Fall by publius
Tomorrow's NYT takes a look at the fall of Sarah Palin over the past few months. The theme that emerges is that Palin simply wasn't ready for the glare of the spotlight. In particular, the NYT describes Palin as overly obsessed with -- and distracted by -- criticisms. She apparently felt the need to answer them all.
To me, this hair-trigger sensitivity was a function of her inexperience. It's easy to forget just how meteoric her rise was. She went from a small-town nobody mayor in 2006 to governor. And even then, most people had never heard of her until McCain picked her. Basically, she went from nobody to world celebrity in 24 hours. As a result, she never had time to develop the thick skin that successful politicians must eventually acquire.
Indeed, one of the overlooked benefits of political experience is that you develop scars. Sure, experience helps you learn issues and the media game and all that. But it also hardens you. You learn over the years to take your blows, pick your battles, and adjust to reading savage attacks on you and even your family. You learn not to be debilitated by it.
This proven toughness was always Clinton's strongest virtue. Whatever her flaws, I had no doubt that she could take a punch and punch back. With Obama, I was never 100% sure. But even Obama developed scars before it was all over. He took his lumps over a grueling two year period and excelled. Palin, by contrast, had a few days. She needed more time -- and more battles.
It's a lot like childhood vaccines. Children don't get all their vaccinations at once. They get them progressively over years -- and they become progressively more resilient. Seasoned politicians have to learn to be resilient.
And that, ultimately, was Palin's problem (well, one of them). Everything came at once, and too fast. And she simply folded under the pressure.
I'm not saying I could do better -- it's an insanely difficult game to master. But it is a reason why she should have never been picked in the first place.
I was hoping that someone would blog this NYT article, because I just finished reading it and had to fight to retain my breakfast, let alone my appetite.
You can read it yourself, but I'll save you the trouble and boil it down to a shorter version: "Waah! The media, bloggers, and the McCain campaign were mean to Sarah Palin, and left her with no choice but to quit. She was failed by everyone around her. But she'll be back, you betcha!"
I'm serious. It was that bad. Every page was filled with bleating about how unfair everything and everyone was to Palin, and how she was just swept up in events. There's a nod here and there to her incompetence, but most of the blame gets leveled squarely on the media.
I hope they didn't waste ink on that whiny piece of crap.

Please, who the hell in the RIGHT mind would ever think Palin is a viable candidate to be President of the United States of America.
The GOP unleased this rabid animal in 2008, and all she's done is collect all the shiney bones(trinkets), spewed a bunch of nonsensical rhetoric about smaller government, energy independence, yelped a few "you betchas" and winked her way into a frenzy of whining, complaining and blaming folks for her fucked up views.

Cliff Notes of the appearance:
Kristinn: Well the media and David Letterman made fun of Track/Trick/Trig/Tripp/Willow/Piper/Bristol so Malia Obama is fair game! We NEVER made fun of Chelsea Clinton or Amy Carter!
mon_dieu_ishmael
People here played pile on with Palin's kids. The comments about her kids were vindictive, mean, and appalling. Like they never did anything stupid when they were 18. The children of politicians should be off limits.
Ya know what pisses me off - the TWISTING of any incident by Sarah Palin.
Case in point: Their alleged values versus the reality of Bristol's pregnancy.
Trig: A picture of Palin holding Trig that was photoshopped with the head of prominent Alaskan ReThugs. It was NOT an attack on Trig or anyone with Down Syndrome.
Willow: Supposedly the 'joke' David Letterman told was directed at Willow. It was NOT. Anyone who heard, regardless of their political bent, would've known it was about Bristol. David fucked up in not knowing the difference (physically) between the 18 year-old and the 14 year-old.
What Republican child or children have been ran over in the press and radio - and now with the explosion of media & technology - blogs like Chelsea Clinton, Amy Carter, and the Obama girls. Have Mark Sanford's boys been subjected to anything like this?
Track, btw, got into legal trouble and was given the option of jail or the military.
The children of politicians - is there an age limit? Liz Cheney as an adult versus 8 year-old Pipsy Palin. What is THAT kid's name.
The problem with Kristinn - he didn't want to take any responsibility for what appeared on his site. And that constant meme - "yeah but, so & so did it. Grow fucking up. It doesn't matter what someone else; it matters what you do.

By the way, Levi Johnston said in an interview this morning that Palin even suggested a family reality show, which means putting the kids on public display "for money"....but, Levi said the kids were against it. Now what is all this catterwalling Palin does about leaving her children alone?
I probably should add this note: I will not 'attack' children....especially anyone under 18, regardless. I wouldn't have used the picture of Trig. I wouldn't have made a joke about Bristol Palin & Alex Rodriguez.
I don't care about John Edwards' kids, Mark Sanford's boys or any other politician because to me it's about the policies of the parent(s). In the case of Sarah Palin, you cannot have it both ways - you cannot be cheerleader of a certain value system and NOT expect some kind of retribution when you do not 'live up to' your own values or standards.

You can go back and look at the threads and see what has been written in the past....so just pulling stuff outta your ass won't actually work. Now just for fun, I went back to look at some threads from Aug, Sept and Oct...because I wanted to see the vindictive mean and appaling things said about Palin's kids...the kids mind you, because that's what you're accusing the posters here of doing. I came across this thread on Bristol's pregnancy and why it matters: http://www.jackandjillpolitics.com/2008/09/why-...
Are you suggesting that anything written about Bristol's pregnancy rises to the level of "ghetto whore"? Are you? Or did you just LIE and think no one would actually go back and look?

them good old archives see how you can just look stuff up i guess someone will be here apologizing pretty soon
and another thing i don't think the owners of this site would let people come on here and attack kids no matter who the parents are
Did anyone allude to her being a whore because she was pregnant 'out of wedlock?'
See - the glaring, blaring hypocrisy comes when these jackasses promote certain values, want to change gov't, societal norms to mirror those values BUT don't want to practice those values themselves.

I dont believe anyone ever called Bristol a whore.... I dont even recall that kind of rhetoric on any site. I know I've seen the phrase "knocked up"...and by Levi's OWN description of himself, I know he's been called a F---in redneck - but I've never seen her children called anything that rose to the level of "whore".
I was asking that question of ishmael (mon dieu). I don't believe so either - certainly not here.
None of the blogs I've been in has there been anything like what was generated towards Malia Obama, in either the posts or comments towards Bristol Palin. Her pregnancy and the values represented by the Republican party have been talked about.

You're a liar, plain and simple. People defended the fact that Letterman was referencing Bristol and not Willow. No one, not one person said any of Palin's daughters deserved to be called a slut. I went through the archives, notice how you punked out and won't respond to that post - dont worry though, everybody else notices! LOL
mon_dieu_ishmael
if you defended the joke, than you were defended the implications of the joke. Thus you were defending attacks on politicians children. When I expressed my disapproval of the joke, I was treated just as I am being treated now.
Plantsmantx
And what do you call "defending the joke"? You see, that's why Palin and the Palinites insisted that Letterman didn't get the names mixed up, as he obviously did, but was actually talking about the 14=year-old. They could accuse anyone who pointed out that he wasn't talking about the 14 year old, and anyone who disagreed that he was a "pedophile", of "defending the joke". Don't you know how transparent that shit is? You should know it's not going to work here.

Justice58
You lied on posters here @ JJP! How dare you!!
You said: People here played pile on with Palin's kids. The comments about her kids were vindictive, mean, and appalling.
Not anyone I know here would even dare to go there. I have come to know some of these people pretty well and a few on a personal level. I have been around here longer than some of the posters. I was here before the big crowd came. I have never seen anyone write anything vulgar or vile towards any of Sarah Palin's children. I dare you to find it. You want justify what posters @ FreeRepublic wrote about an innocent little girl that hasn't even gone through puberty yet. They were foul, racist, sexual degoratory comments directed @ an 11 year old child. Sarah Palin was talked about here because of her hypocrisy. No one here ever called Bristol Palin a "street whore", or said "wonder when will she have her first abortion" OMG, I can hardly stand to even write the word about an 11 year old child. That is what you would call appauling, sexual racist comments.
Don't you ever accuse these posters @ JJP of that kind of bullsh!t ever again. I'm here just about everyday and I see what they write. I don't even believe anything that vile was ever posted @ Huffington Post either because the comment wouldn't have been approved.
So you come here to post a bold-faced lie as if these posters did the same so it's justified. You're not just a liar but a dirty liar!

I really, really think that you need to go back and read the snarky comments. Perhaps I did not make myself clear: The Children of Politicians should be OFF LIMITS.

People here played pile on with Palin's kids. The comments about her kids were vindictive, mean, and appalling.
You made an accusation so prove it!!
mon_dieu_ishmael
I tell you what, you go back over the last 8 months, ever since Bristol announced her pregnancy, and read the comments at JJP. PPLZ reveled in it, its was cheap shot, after cheap shot at an 18 year old girl who made 2 mistakes, 1) having sex with a pile of shyt like Levi Johnson, 2) being born to Sarah Palin.
No, the cheap shots were at Sarah Palin for being a hypocrite still preaching abstinence only when her own daughter ended up knocked up which should have shown her that policy was misguided. Hell, Bristol herself said it was unrealistic until Sarah reminded her what she was supposed ot be saying.
carolinagirl
You are full of crap.
The key point that you seem to be missing is that these so-called "cheap shots" were taken at an 18 year old woman. No where on this blog was she called a street whore. She was not called a slut or any other offensive name. No one ragged on her for wearing shorts and a t-shirt.
Now as far as Sarah Palin is concerned, we called her a sno-ho b/c that's what she is. I think you seem to be conflating the two.
Adult children are private citizens. And what is an adult? Age of sexual consent, Bar/Bat Mitzah, drinking age? I see no reason to hound adult children of politicians. If you have an issue with a politician, take it up with that person.
Miranda
Oh so we shouldn't critique Lynn Cheney because, ya know...that's Dick's "kid"...yeah....ok.
Being "old" it's relative. Someone half my age at 25, I would (might) consider a 'kid" in that my daughter is a bit beyond that age.
Otherwise - my cut-off point is 18 - considered the age of majority for voting and certain other adult rights.
Regardless - the viciousness directed against Malia Obama hasn't been "enjoyed" by other politicians of similar age here that I've seen or the sites/places I read. And - that is what was addressed to you originally. If you have proof, then produce it.
mon_dieu_ishmael
Perhaps I am not making myself clear: THE CHILDREN OF POLITICANS (ALL OF THEM) SHOULD BE OFF LIMITS.
Miranda
That's not what you said about Caroline Kennedy now is it?
mon_dieu_ishmael
Caroline Kennedy was running for the US senate. She was a politician in her own right. (and don't tell me she was not running).
Miranda
She's a politician's daughter, so now you have caveats. In other words, you're just making it up as you go along.
You're not addressing what you were asked to originally address.
I'm not having a problem understanding what you're are saying. No need to CAP. I don't usually have a problem engaging whoever in the political spectrum. If Meagan McCain wants to engage on the national political stage, which she has, then I will engage. The Bush twins - don't know what they're doing. Liz Cheney is engaged because she has been political. That's MY point.
Piper (thank you, WRB) Palin, etc: No.
Miranda
No such thread exists justice. He just made that shit up.
The point that MDI is attempting to get from us is an unequivocal "all politician's children are off limits" regardless of age. That premise is unacceptable because 'children' grow into adults and cannot be unequivocal.
Regardless of who was treated worse, it can be said that it is considered inappropriate to attack the "under age" children of any politician. (Under age in this case meaning the age of majority most often recognized as 18.)
The sticking point: MDI made an 'accusation' regarding the posters here going off on the underage children of politicians. When asked to provide proof, what then transpires is this idiotic back and forth to first claim all children of all politicians off limits. It's not going to happen.
You cannot make an accusation and then expect those you accuse to prove your point. The onus for that is on the one doing the accusing - ITC.... mon_dieu_ishmael
It's simple - provide the proof or shut the fuck up.

Ethnic violence in China draws muted response from many Muslim nations
CAIRO (AP) — China's crackdown on its Muslim Uighur minority has drawn a muted response from many Muslim countries that may be wary of damaging lucrative trade ties with Beijing or attracting attention to their own attitudes toward political dissent.
The non-Arab countries of Iran and Turkey have been among the few to criticize China. Iran is busy dealing with its own unrest following a disputed presidential election, while Turkey has ethnic ties to China's Uighur minority.
But throughout much of the Middle East and the Arab world, the violence in China has generated little reaction.
Arab regimes "couldn't criticize the attacks on Chinese Muslims because they themselves have no democracy," said Labib Kamhawi, a Jordanian political analyst. "They're in the same boat as the Chinese government."
China has poured tens of thousands of troops into the western Xinjiang region over the past few days, imposing tight control on the capital of Urumqi and surrounding areas after ethnic violence left more than 180 people dead and 1,680 wounded last week.
The Uighurs, who number 9 million in Xinjiang, have complained about an influx of Han Chinese and government restrictions on their Muslim religion. They accuse the majority Han community of discrimination and the Communist Party of trying to erase their language and culture.
China is a major trading partner for many Arab countries including Sudan, Saudi Arabia and other oil-rich Gulf nations. It is Jordan's third-largest largest trading partner, following Saudi Arabia and the United States. Jordan also is seeking to attract Chinese investment in projects such as renewable energy, railroads and water desalination.

Jon Ponder | Jul. 13, 2009 Facing a potentially brand-killing boycott of Rockstar Energy Drink by key sectors of its target demos — nightclubbing young gays and their non-gay, socially liberal cohorts — CEO Russ Weiner and his mother, CFO Janet Weiner — issued a statement last week in which they sought to distance themselves from the unabashedly homophobic views of radio ranter Michael Savage, who is their father and husband, respectively:"
Girl, don't I know it. No originality, no courage, no purpose.....
You know the MSM will continue to paint this woman as some enigma, as someone who's just misunderstood. (Maybe if she'd learn proper sentence structure we could a least understand what she is saying.)
They will continue to uphold this woman as someone unique, while our school systems are struggling to educate our kids and prepare them for higher service, this woman is running around the country MOCKING intelligence and good education.

More Problems in Sight For Black Radio Surrounding HR 848
(July 12, 2009) - Black radio faces a new wave of problems, one industry insider said this week, threatening stations that have long been a reliable source of news, information and culture among the nation’s African American communities.
The problems stem from a controversial piece of new legislation, House Resolution 848, which drew experts to Washington, D.C. for a congressional hearing this week, including Paul Porter, a media critic who has had a prominent voice in American radio the past 20 years.
Porter said that while its legislative supporters’ "initial concerns were simply to grant performers royalties for radio airplay, the response of broadcasters has opened the door to an array of larger problems than just dwindling revenues."
Formally known as the Performance Rights Act, the bill, sponsored by Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.), was introduced this past February.
Having recently passed an initial vote in a committee chaired by Conyers, the bill would require radio stations as well as networks to ante up royalties to all recording artists whose songs are played over the air waves.
Is the Surgeon General a cabinet position? Will Dr. Regina Benjamin be the first cabinet official from an HBCU, as I heard some reference to Morehouse?
Actually no I meant will it be the first ever HBCU graduate in the cabinet. Seems like the path for many high ranking political African Americans are via the Ivy League schools. Granted I am sadly uninformed, so counting JJPers to school me. LOL

List of African American United States Cabinet Secretaries From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search
Condoleezza Rice became the second African American Secretary of State in 2004.The United States Cabinet has had 16 African American appointed officers. By definition, African Americans are citizens or residents of the United States who have origins in any of the black populations of Africa.[1] The term is generally used for Americans with at least partial Sub-Saharan African ancestry.[2] Originally, African Americans were regarded as second-class citizens or slaves in America.[3] No African American ever held a Cabinet position before the signing Civil Rights Act of 1964, which banned discrimination in public accommodations, employment, and labor unions.[4]
Robert C. Weaver became the first African-American to hold a Cabinet-level position when he was appointed United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in 1966 by President Lyndon B. Johnson.[5] In 1975, Secretary of Transportation William Thaddeus Coleman, Jr. became the first Republican African American appointed to the Cabinet.[6] Patricia Roberts Harris became the first African American female cabinet member when she was appointed Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in 1977. In 1979, Harris became the first African American to be head of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, which was split into the departments of Education and Health and Human Services in the same year.[7] Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice's appointments as Secretary of State made them the highest-ranking African Americans in the United States presidential line of succession.[8]
The Department of Housing and Urban Development has had the most African American Secretaries, with four. The departments of State, Transportation, and Veterans Affairs have each had two. The four existing departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Interior, and Treasury have not had African American Secretaries. President Bill Clinton has appointed the most African Americans to the Cabinet during his tenure, with seven.

Remember David Brooks and the hand on the thigh?
A response:
July 11, 2009 The Highly Selective Dignity Code by hilzoy
David Brooks wrote a column the other day complaining about the demise of the "dignity code". He expanded on this point on MSNBC Today: "You know, all three of us spend a lot of time covering politicians and I don’t know about you guys, but in my view, they’re all emotional freaks of one sort or another. They’re guaranteed to invade your personal space, touch you. I sat next to a Republican senator once at dinner and he had his hand on my inner thigh the whole time. I was like, ehh, get me out of here."
News flash: This has been happening to people forever, at least if you count women as people. Back when George Washington was writing out his "Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior in Company and Conversation", which Brooks cites as an example of the Dignity Code, Thomas Jefferson was hitting on Sally Hemings. A professor whose class I was enrolled in once grabbed my breasts at a party. Every woman I know has stories like this. Maybe being groped in a public setting is a novel experience for straight guys; not being a straight guy, I wouldn't know. But if it is, that isn't because no one ever groped anyone in a public setting before.
Honestly: this is like complaining about the recent breakdown of our longstanding social strictures against violence, and citing as evidence the fact that some white person somewhere got lynched last year.
So I'm left to wonder: why did David Brooks write this column? Is it (a) because none of his female friends and relations ever told him about the existence of sexual harassment? Or (b) because he doesn't think that public groping violates the Dignity Code when you do it to women, because for some reason women just don't count?
Inquiring minds want to know.
(PS: Ann Althouse's response (h/t) is an inadvertent classic: "Perhaps the Republican Senator just periodically patted him on the thigh and technically the fingers extended into the inner part." "Technically", indeed.)
LOL, grown-ass man lets another dude put his hand on his inner thigh for an entire evening?
GTFO with that shit, Brooks. Nothing against being gay, but being a straight male, there's no way I'm letting some dude put his hand on my thigh, much less for the duration of a dinner. Hell, I wouldn't even let a woman I'm not attracted to grope me.
Plantsmantx
Now, let's compare that with her description of the President's body language in the photo where he supposedly ogled that girl. That woman is stone crazy, LOL.
"Now, swivel your eyes over to Obama's feet. The foot closest to the woman, like Sarkozy's, is planted and aimed forward, but the other steps off in the direction of the woman, bending the knee upward into a bit of a crotch-squeeze and forming the base of a dramatic tilt of the entire body into a flexible S-shape that leans toward the woman. Obama's arms hang free, emphasizing the tilt, and either gravity or will causes the left arm to hang inches away from the torso. See how much lower the right hand is than the left? His neck is craned out and around so that the line of sight is directly at the ass. His mouth is open as if to say: That's what I want."
David Brooks is going to have to say who molested him at this party. This isn't deep throat. This isn't Watergate. Brooks isn't the next Woodward or Bernstein.
Admiral_Komack
"David Brooks is going to have to say who molested him at this party. This isn't deep throat."
-Hey now! It might be "deep throat". Did Brooks ever say what happended AFTER the party? Just asking...
"This isn't Watergate. Brooks isn't the next Woodward or Bernstein." -Maybe the next Linda Lovelace...(hey, I said "maybe").
Guns3000
I have to worry about a man who lets another man fondle him under a table.
spirit_55z
For real, and all night too.
Miranda
LMAO!!!! "molested him".....ROFLMAO! Fess up Brooks!
danadevin74
David Brooks prob wishes he had kept his mouth shut i bet Lindsey Graham leaving all kinds of threats on David Brooks phone
Miranda
ROFLMAO!!! You know it!!
spirit_55z
Yes, David, do tell.
Why the hell would David Brooks mention someone fondling his thigh publicly, and not name the fella? Was it Larry Craig?
Right, was it oral Orrin or cocky Coburn? Who was it? Brooks is a journalist. He knows better than to introduce mysteries to the public. Whodunnit Brooks???
Unless I'm married to you or at least having sex with you on a 'regular' basis, the inner thigh region is off limits. I don't understand Brooks' motives in even bringing this up. I'm suspicious as hell of him anyway, and this just seals that all right up.
Angelar
better worded than my very thoughts the other day.......
"Why Brooks let the senator keep his hand there for the entire dinner is a mystery. Why he described the incident on television, but then refused to name the politician, is another. The relationship between the press and politicians is often scrutinized, with many observers claiming that the two are "in bed" together. Given Brooks's odd story, that untoward relationship apparently extends to the dinner table as well."

Sasha's face says it all, about the CapeCoastCastle...she was feeling all the emotions eminating from her parents and the stories of brutal hate.
I was shocked when Obama spoke and said that there was a church right above the dundgeons where they would hold Thousands of male slaves for weeks! Incredible, the sickness of the mentality of warped minds, worshipping ABOVE the hell they created!!
Indeed. Bedrooms were usually in upper-floors, but parlors and whatnot were on the floor above the stolen Africans.
whiterosebuddy
GAWD...it is just sick..cause you know they had to smell the stench of their filth..the way they packed them in, thousands of men for weeks, did not bathe them and all the human excrement...those people were just crude and barbaric to live above all that human filth.
