Does anyone know if TVONE or BET will be showing live coverage of the MJ memorial?

...shows the King of Pop NERVOUSLY LAUGHING, COVERING HIS FACE with his hands in dismay and GROANING IRRITABLY as a team of lawyers grilled him in 1996 as part of a lawsuit brought against him by Neverland staff...Thriller star Jackson-who died last week-SQUIRMS at times as he is questioned about allegations surrounding Jordy Chandler, Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin and Brett Barnes.
But at one point in the frank and revealing footage, the star launches into a spirited defence of himself in which he:
INSISTS he is NOT GAY.
DENIES bleaching his skin and says he is PROUD to be black
SLAMS his child abuse accusers as LIARS...
...as the lawyers battle on, the Bad star becomes increasingly agitated and produces a series of his own handwritten documents.
Jackson admits it is a list he made, saying: "When I get angry enough I write down what I want to say and what I want to talk about, to set the record straight.
"Cos you get to a point where you get tired of people lying. I get tired of situations like this, where people completely lie on me, and I'm sick of it . . . I want to set the record straight."
Jackson first denies bleaching his skin. "I'm a black American and I'm proud of it. And I'm honoured of it," he says. "The bleached skin rumour, which is a rumour. I don't bleach my skin. He adds: "They say-they once said-I wanted a white kid to play me as a child, which was a rumour."
Then he blurts out: "I'm not gay." And he adds in faltering, disjointed speech: "Don't judge a person unless you have spoken to them one-on-one, which, which is true. 'Cos what you hear is a lie."
Uh oh, Peter King pissed off the MJ fans, and they are fighting back (and there are a lot more of THEM than King supporters I'm guessing:
There is, it turns out, a political price to pay when you make bold statements calling out Michael Jackson for some of the nefarious moments of his personal history.
Fans of Jackson are mobilizing to raise money for an opponent -- any opponent -- to run against Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y., following the critical remarks the congressman made about the recently deceased pop icon.
Over the weekend, King said that the media had gone far over the top in glorifying Jackson, who he deemed a "low-life" pervert who "may have been a good singer" and "did some dancing."
Now, an ActBlue fundraising site has been set up by "A fan of Michael Jackson" titled "Michael Jackson Fans AGAINST Peter King."
"Peter King ought to let Jackson rest in peace, and focus on the needs of his constituents. As we mourn the loss of an American legend, political grandstanding is not what we need right now!" the page reads. "Fans of Michael Jackson and his legacy stand united against Peter King's hateful words. Please donate here to show Peter King that true MJ fans won't stand for the smearing of a pop sensation!"
The fund is being set up to benefit the Democratic nominee for New York's third congressional district -- a reliable Republican stronghold. The problem is that at this time, there is no Democratic nominee. And King has flirted with a run for New York's governor's chair in 2010. Still, it will be interesting to see the extent to which Michael Jackson devotees can mobilize politically. Who would have thought that the King of Pop's legacy would become a partisan issue?
moja31
MJ has some of the most dedicated and loyal fans out there; it's the reason that his fan club website consistently rates as one of the most active sites on the web, long after he was at his peak. there are a lot of folks who didn't take kindly to people saying shit about mike when he was alive, and it's not surprising they're none too happy about king's comments in their time of grief. it'd be kind of awesome if they really were able to make put some heat on him.
spirit_55z
I guess Peter shouldn't have fucked with the King of Pop. I hope he gets run out of office.
It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out.
Now, if we can get folks to mobilize like this and get that single-payer healthcare......
Justice58
Peter King asked for it .... so let him pay the price!

Profiting off the Obamas J. Crew hawks first daughter clothes
oh oh j. crew is about lose themselves their biggest public endorsement; imo they've made a big mistake trying to make a buck off of michelle obama's kids. it was well known that the whole family frequents j. crew, they would have been better off keeping their mouths shut and just continuing to benefit from the existing association.
spirit_55z
Damn, this might not go over too well with FLOTUS.
Malia and Sasha look so well-suited too.
J, Crew should know better; you don't screw with Michelle Obama's kids.
Everyone who can is profiting off of the Obamas. You saw how quickly all of those news organizations that spent so much time smearing him turned out their "historic DVDs" about his campaign/election.
BTW, J. Crew could be sued if Michelle and Obama haven't given them permission to use Malia and Sasha's images to sell their clothing. . .
[edit: lo and behold, from the article]
The first lady's office did not immediately respond to an e-mail asking if Michelle Obama had approved the marketing materials. Heather Lynch McAuliffe, the vice president of J.Crew public relations, said <b.the White House did not approve the release before she sent it.
J. Crew should know better. . .
and another thing, it must be nice to afford $98 ballet flats for growing children. LOL I don't begrudge them their wealth, but WOW. . .
Miranda
Hey, i was in Macy's once and looking at a clearance rack for toddlers and ran across a little bitty Sean John suit....that thing was a 6-9 months...and on sale for $198.....I couldn't stop myself, before I knew it, I said out loud "who the hell would buy this!!"
LOL, I honestly don't think I paid that much for a suit for MYSELF, and I'd be able to wear it more than once or twice.
isonprize
I hope Michelle smacks 'em down.
Miranda
oh J. Crew has called an emergency board meeting to figure out how to apologize profusely over "Ms. McAuliffe's unathorized press release"...mind you Ms. McAuliffe is the VP of PR...but by tomorrow she won't be if the apology doesn't go over well.
isonprize
I ain't buying it. After all that came up of the Malia and Sasha beanie babies (or whatever the hell they were) J. Crew knew better.
They knew exactly what they were doing. I think they subscribed to that old rule "It's better to beg forgiveness than to ask permission."
Police say woman with Steve McNair bought gun Steve McNair smiles while speaking in Baltimore on January 2, 2004 about the NFL Most Valuable Player award which he shared with Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. Authorities are still leaning to a murder-suicide in the case. Associated Press 3:02 PM PDT, July 6, 2009 NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Police say the gun found at the scene where former NFL star Steve McNair died was bought by his girlfriend less than two days before the two were shot to death.
Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron said today that 20-year-old Sahel Kazemi bought the semiautomatic handgun Thursday evening from a person he didn't name.
An autopsy showed that McNair and Kazemi died early Saturday. He was shot four times and his death has been ruled a homicide. She was shot once and Aaron said police are still waiting for ballistic and gunpowder residue tests before deciding if she was slain or committed suicide.
Their bodies were found in a Nashville condominium leased by McNair, who was 36.
Aaron said that as far as he knows McNair was not with Kazemi when she got the gun.
According to The Tennessean, Kazemi had discussed visiting a shooting range with Farzin Abdi, and had mentioned that she was unhappy living alone.
They discussed the potential for Kazemi acquiring a gun permit, but according to Abdi, "She told me she didn't have to because Steve had lots of guns."
Steve, 36, married Mechelle McNair in 1997, and no accounts of the couple's separation have been reported. The McNairs have four children together.
Soheyla Kazemi, Sahel's sister, rejected theories that her sister may have orchestrated a murder-suicide, killing the former football great and herself.
"It’s not true. She loves Steve too much," Soheyla Kazemi said in an interview with the Florida Times-Union. "She said they were planning to get married."
Nashville police have solicited the help of the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to trace the origin of the gun they found at the crime scene Saturday.
I am just fascinated by this whole story, but I feel horrible for his wife, Mechelle, who didn't even know about the affair until his ass ended up dead in a condo she probably didn't even know about. All of these reports of infidelity lately have me thinking I don't even want to bother getting married when I do find the right guy, we'll just be like Oprah and Steadman (but without the money, but if I have the money, that's okay too ~lol~)

uh, you might want to use a different couple. Just sayin'...
Oh damn....Lawrence O'Donnell is subing for Tweety today? LMAO!!! OH JOY!!! I was soooooo mad as I was driving home Friday afternoon and heard the Palin resignation as breaking news...with no JJP for 3 days I thought I would lose my mind, especially after watching the press conference...so many jokes all bottled up inside! Although my siblings, cousins and I had a time talking about it a little bit - but couldn't get into like we NEEDED to! So... Thanks MSNBC! The perfect person to have on to moderate the segments today!!
Then I'll have to watch.... I don't usually Hardball - not being a Tweety fan 'n all. But I do LIKE Lawrence ODonnell

I know! I had stopped watching Hardball on a regular basis...but as soon as I saw Lawrence opening up!! WHEW!!! I just love him anyway, but this is great! I hope he subs all week!
I did not have the opportunity to know MJ personally as Whoopi did and I can appreciate that. However, with all due respect to the man in his passing, if I had a child, I would not have made the same decision.
When group think becomes involved, extremes come into play. Could Rep. King have found a better way to say what he said: YES. Was there an element of truth in what he said: YES. The MJ media coverage is out of control.
Celebrate the music and remarkable accomplishments of his career, but while he gave us pleasure, and his music is the soundtrack to many important moments in our life --- Michael Jackson was the Alpha & Omega. At least not for my universe.
And it is hypocritical to an extent for everyone to act like they did not distance themselves, stop buying his music, whatever because they were uncomfortable with what they saw of Michael as a person.
Personally my heart breaks for him, because at least with everything we could observe about him and various quotes I have read, he was not a happy person. We are reminded the money and fame can not fill your soul. I hope he at least found a measure of happiness with his children.
I also am not impressed by reports that Child Protective Services are supposedly interviewing his children to find out about their live with Michael. That is cruel if it is true and WTH does it matter now. If you cared so much, where were U before?
lamh32
You are correct, you didnt' know MJ, neither did I. Ms Goldberg did. If she says should had and would leave her kid with MJ, did who am you are I to tell her she's wrong. Especially since you nor I really knew MJ personally. she did.
As for Mr King, he showed his colors when he said that MJ was just a "song and dance guy" as if MJ was just ur run of the mill vaudevillian artist who made no mark on his industry. I'm sorry, but what exactly does coverage of MJ have to do with Peter King, he like most of us can just change the channel, or choose not to respond to commentary with which we don't really care for.
Even here on JJP, a number of things are posted by the admin, and my fellow commenters, but is there some obligaton for me to discuss them. No, but just because I'm not interested, doesn't mean I gonna tell those who are "what's the big deal about such an such?" It's obviously a big deal to them which is why they chose to respond the the posting/comment.
I did not say Whoopi was wrong. I said I would not make the same decision. The fact she made a different choice would not change my mind.
It is not even because I have a solid opinion on whether he was guilty of the alleged crimes. My decision would be based on the fact that while we can appreciate a person's talent, does not mean we condone their lifestyle decisions. That is true if it is a celebrity, my neighbor or my aunt.
You don't have to trash a person, but you also have no obligation to laud them and invest your child's time with them.
Lisa M
It's always good to hear from people who ACTUALLY KNEW the man. One other thing though, what the heck was Whoopi wearing?
Miranda
I so thought it was an apron.

Just How Much Do Lawyers in the White House Make? David Ingram The National Law Journal July 6, 2009
Lawyers who work in the White House don't talk much, but they can't avoid having their salaries reported to Congress. The Obama administration, complying with an annual congressional requirement, has released salary information for all those working in the White House, including more than 40 lawyers in the White House Counsel’s Office and other legal jobs. Click here for the full report and here (pdf) for a list with just legal staff. White House Counsel Gregory Craig tops the list, naturally, at $172,200. By comparison, the former partner at Williams & Connolly made $1.7 million last year, according to a disclosure report released in April. Below Craig, three people with the title of deputy White House counsel come in at $158,500: Daniel Meltzer, a longtime Harvard Law professor who is principal deputy; Cassandra Butts, a former vice president at the liberal Center for American Progress; and Mary DeRosa, deputy counsel for national security who previously worked on the Senate Judiciary Committee. The list includes 12 people with the title of associate White House counsel, at a salary of $130,500. It also includes several detailees from other federal agencies. Virginia Canter, for example, detailed from the Treasury Department, is listed at $163,940. Most of the salaries are the same as those paid to Bush administration lawyers a year ago. In January, President Barack Obama announced a pay freeze for those in the White House making more than $100,000 a year.
But I thought love for Michael Jackson crossed all racial boundaries. Or do we just have too much time on our hands: "Eight-in-ten African Americans say they followed news about Jackson’s death very closely, compared with 22% of whites"
Personally I just want to survive tomorrow so we can move on....
Myth
Ruth I know you don't expect to be able to "move on" after tomorrow. All of those naysayers who have been waiting for the funeral to be over to slander him will definitely start to weigh in. The ELVISication will move to stage 2 after the funeral. How can you bury Michael Jackson in a public cemetery? People will be picnicing in the cemetery. Just wait!
Statistics can say what they want. MJ has left an indelible positive mark and influence on American music, and therefore an indelible positive mark and influence on American culture - for all time.
I am sad he did not have more time - however, despite his faults, nobody can say he didn't try to use the time he did have, or that he didn't bring many people of different backgrounds together.

There can be no doubt that Maxwell was the big winner from last week's BET Awards. I had no idea the video for Pretty Wings was released in April. Frankly I think he should ask BET to let him run the video from the telecast. This video takes the song in a different direction.
It is the women who really responded to his performance, but yet this video is really for the fellas.
US lurching towards 'debt explosion' - The US economy is lurching towards crisis with long-term interest rates on course to double, crippling the country’s ability to pay its debts and potentially plunging it into another recession, according to a study by the US’s own central bank…
Let’s see…Obama wants to add in cap and trade, along with national healthcare, and the nation is already going broke. The first load of “Baby Boomers” went on social security last year, but the major loads will be joining it for the next several years before retirement dates get moved back. Etcetera…

I dont even understand how Jason Fatlock had the gall to write this rubbage considering the last time I saw him on the Sports Reporters, his socks couldn't even come up around his ankles. They don't even MAKE elastic that can handle his size and yet he has the unmitigated gall to take shit about Serena?? When Dow Chemicals can come up with a material that can fit his wide ass I hope they let him know.

Miranda - I found this on a site called Bovine Comedy
Jason Whitlock Brags About Sartorial Taste, Imitates Samuel L. Jackson
So: Jason Whitlock, Kansas City’s very own racially incendiary columnist, is a good dresser. He’d like you to know that up front. What he’ll also tell you is that he is not a fan of the Power And/Or Light District, whose judgeandjury bouncers see fit to keep J-Dub and his friends out of something called “Shark Bar” based simply on what the group is wearing. And what would that be? Oh, he’s more than happy to provide details.
I had on custom-made, black linen, crepe-weave shorts with a matching Tommy Bahama-style button-up shirt, black dress sandals and a black Kangol hat. I’ve worn the exact outfit or one similar to the best restaurants and clubs in Vegas, New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Kansas City.
Can you picture that? I'm trying to get the image out of my head.
Miranda
HA! I read the original article that came from in the Kansas City Star...as Shitlock whined about the bouncers not letting him in some bar even though he was all "pimped" out in his custom-made duds.
Wow, the rule is that women grow untl they can reproduce (can'grow 8grow another)..that's God's plan...so Malia is how many inches shorter than her parents? She is ready to be a woman...who might grow 2 more inches ...if she is not a woman yet.
I am loving this whole scene. Feeling bad for Malia having to experiencce adolescence in the publid eye...but man...she is a stunning beaauty!

All right - here's my daughter's theory on McNair. It was a family honor killing. They just saw a show (somewhere on cable) where a young woman was seeing in this case, a Latino man and the man was shot twice with the young woman being shot once in the head. Now what, wrb? Huh?

Did you see it in Manhattan Off Broadway? I saw the first show (but not opening night -- who knew there was a difference...) at the City Center with Orlando Jones as the Wiz (loved him!) Tichina Arnold - Wicked witch (funny, well cast), Dawnn Lewis Glinda (she brought it!) and Ashanti as Dorothy (nice voice, couldn't act)
The young men who played the Lion, Scarecrow and Tinman were excellent, especially the Lion who had a great booming baritone voice.
The staging was great and the music was good too! It's shame that the weakest link was Ashanti. She couldn't act worth a damn. And since ERR'BODY knows what Dorothy does, it was pretty obvious....

Where did you go?
Miranda
We were watching the DVD over the weekend at my parent's home. It was amazing watching all the kids introduced to that musical and all of MJ's videos for the first time. The awe on their faces! Priceless.
Justice58
Ah!
I'll bet it was fun for the kids. Glad you guys had a good time.
I write this article at the risk of offending my daughters, who are all in the "We think Lil Wayne and Chris Brown were sent by God" age group. It doesn't matter if you've admitted to beating your girlfriend, or if you use every word other than "woman" to describe females. If you are rich and famous, you're suddenly sexy, cool and dateable. That's just the way things work for some teenagers (and some grown folks too).
As I rode in the car for 16 hours listening to the radio with my daughters, I noticed that Lil Wayne seemed to feature in every song. I think I upset the girls when I said, "Yeah, Lil Wayne's song about wanting to have sex with every girl in the world reminds me of Eazy-E...Oh by the way, he eventually died of AIDS."
Yes, I had just puked on my daughters' parade, but I had to say it. Kids don't want to hear that kind of stuff, it disrupts their celebrity buzz. So, the same way my daughters grimaced when I compared Lil Wayne to Eazy-E, some execs at BET might grimace when they read this article. I hope they will take comfort in the fact that I am not into blanket indictments. But that never seems to matter in a dichotomous world, where you are either a critic or a supporter. I'm just a man with a brain and two eyeballs, and I try to use them both.
I've done a great deal of work with BET, and I've always loved it. The staff is courteous, respectful and professional. Many of their specials have been informative, progressive and provocative. I do not, however, consider the most recent BET Awards to be one of these shows.
The great challenge for BET is that there is a genuine concern from the African American community that BET has slipped away from acknowledging any kind of double bottom line that merges necessary profitability with equally critical social responsibility. For every million dollars earned in revenue, there is at least another 20 million dollars in lost productivity created by a generation that was raised to shake their butts in the club all night while holding a bottle of Cristal. Now, every black boy wants to be a rapper, and millions of little girls think that the word "bitch" or "hoe" in a song means that the rapper is talking about somebody else. Sorry sweetie, but Soulja Boy wants to "super soak" you too, and you're dancing while he says it.
For the sake of full disclosure, I am a huge fan of some hip hop and R&B music. But we would be insane to not be disturbed by the trends that have been created by BET, arguably the most influential network in the black community, especially among young people. R. Kelly's situation might be a good example. Right after the allegations of child molestation (among other things) against Kelly, BET proceeded to honor him at the BET Awards, in addition to giving him one of the longest performances of the evening.
While I can certainly understand allowing him to be a part of the show (after all, he was found not guilty - cough cough), I cannot agree with the message being sent to our young girls, that a videotaped urination on a little girl can be written off simply as eccentric celebrity behavior. But again, we all know that R. Kelly was found not guilty (cough cough). In spite of all that, I would argue that some degree of conscious prudence might have been called for in that situation. The tragedy of the corporate model is that it trains us to ignore blatant sexism, racism and everything else, all for the sake of maximizing our revenue stream. Morals and values just don't pay the bills.
This year's BET Awards show was also interesting. I can't help but wonder why there were what appeared to be really young girls dancing on the stage with Lil Wayne as he and others repeatedly stated that they wish they could "bleep every girl in the world." What's scary is that I truly believe they were serious in their objective. What's even scarier in a community plagued with alarming rates of HIV is that there are young men and women who emulate the behavior of Lil Wayne in their everyday lives.
I'm not "hatin" on Lil Wayne, and I'm certainly not out to attack BET. But there must be a point where enough is enough. Whatever poison exists within the organizational structure of this network that breeds such disturbing and socially destructive programming needs to be challenged. As a business school professor, I know how organizations work. So, the problem is that the same social sickness that impedes the progress of many of our greatest HBCUs is probably keeping BET from doing the right thing.
My greatest hope is that the intelligent minds that run BET will take a second and realize their personal power to gain the courage to critically assess what the network has become. I firmly believe that if the leadership is presented with a model that is both profitable and responsible, they will gladly use it.
The truth is that the public trust has been betrayed and the power of media has been underestimated. When our kids are literally being brainwashed with images that ultimately affect their physical and mental health, it's time for all of us to step up to the plate.
(emphasis is mine) As far as I'm concerned this Sistah hit EVERY nail on the head. BET needs to either reform or be gone. I've started watching TVOne, and I hope TVOne starts getting more recognition, especially now that Roland will have a show there.
I had to bookmark this site, looks like a lot of really good content, and it's not all about the "typical" things you see described as "black" issues.
whiterosebuddy
'So, the problem is that the same social sickness that impedes the progress of many of our greatest HBCUs is probably keeping BET from doing the right thing.
Probably that too often it comes down to money vs. doing the right thing, and more often than not doing the right thing takes one for the team.
