Chris – What's up with that type of commentary. What exactly do you mean by crunchy granola black yuppies? You said they are aware, conscientious and active but you have an issue with their financial status and jobs and with blacks creating friendships with whites especially the ones who wear Birkenstock.

Explain please. Want to understand where this is coming from.

There are times when you just have to be practical, and this is one of them. Who wants their place of worship disrupted with Secret Service agents, lines of people who just want to ogle the president keeping crowding regular members out of church, paparazzi, madmen, and dorks clicking camera phones? C'mon. It wouldn't be fair to a church. Another example of the intelligence of our President and FLOTUS.

Good for them. Most black churches and their ministers are about as useful as a hot poker stuck in yor brain. In the old days churches and ministers were involved in the community and motivated their flock to take care of the their families, their children, their neighborhoods and to become involved in the affairs of the community. This bunch, once they leave the confines of their churches, mega or small, just lock the doors and drive off in their fancy cars with a pocket full of pension cash to buy a new Rolex watch or a new airplane. After all of that bumping and jumping, shouting and stomping, the congregations do on Sunday everyone just goes back to doing whatever it is that they do while the communities fall apart.

As for where the Obamas worship; I could give a shit. It's their decision. However, I think whatever their decision, they'll get grief regardless - even if it is a 'black church' because somehow or other, it won't be "black enough" or some other outrageous conclusion.

I'm glad he found a place to worship because the body of Christ is not about color nor denomination, as long as they are preaching Christ as Savior, he's good. I'm getting a little sick of people of color believing that Pres. Obama, the pres. of all, has to be black in his walk, talk, and speech.

My only disappointment as it relates to this discussion IF the TIME report were true and they say it is not: they said choosing a church that would offer a good youth program for the girls is important.

So far they are incredibly level head kids and likely to remain that way. But a solid spiritual foundation would be important to helping keep them grounded. Especially if it was a part of their life before.

I read the article earlier, and I just think it's pathetic that presidents have to go through this religious litmus test. I'm not that comfortable with religion and “spiritual guidance” being looked to for a tool in deciding how to run the country. I understand that Obama is shaped by his religious beliefs and that's fine, but it's one thing to be shaped by it and another to look to it when deciding policy decisions. Part of me hopes they just DON'T join a church, we just had a “churchgoer” in Bush and he fucked everything up.

As far as not going to a Black church because he doesn't want regular people to be pushed out, eventually people realize Obama is just a man. I saw him in two rallies during the campaign. The first time I was REALLY excited, the second time I realized he's just a man. Of course I did get to shake his hand at the second rally, but I still realized he's just a man.
